According to this report, Valve has said that it will launch beta versions of its SteamVR platform for Mac OSX and Linux users within a few months. Whether or not Valve actually hits that timeframe is another thing altogether.

Ludwig presented a screenshot (seen at the top of this article) of SteamVR running on Linux (distribution undefined), powered by the open source graphics API Vulkan, in turn powering an HTC Vive VR headset. Ludwig goes on to say that “we’re actively working on support for both OSX and Linux and we hope to get support for both of them into a beta in the next few months.”

How are you going too play Vive on a Mac. Isn't a 970 minimal requirement? Most Mac come with integrated intel graphics or low end AMD graphic. Not to mention all the adaptor you would need to get it working on a Mac!

They probably figure if they're going to do it for linux, why not also osx? The additional work has to be pretty minimal.

There are probably non-gaming applications that could be done on a mac pro or whatever. Plus there are mac users who will just want to dick around with development of simple stuff for fun.
