Starcraft II

I used to say basically the same thing when I'd watch porn. "If I want a story, I will go to the library." I finally learned though, sometimes it's nice to feel emotionally connected to a person lying face first in a pool of jizz; It can really pull at the heartstrings.

What I'm saying is, these scenes can add to the experience of playing a video game and I welcome them for that.

Yeah, it is a damn shame that have to render a movie too when the game has a big shortcoming of actually relating a story. Here, play the game, now let me show you a movie so you think that is what the game is about.

Geez, I'd like to know where you find your stuff!

But yeah, the greatest games in history have more than just gameplay to make them great. The cinematic trailer really makes me want to know what Raynor's up to now, and the whereabouts of the other denizens of the SC universe.

An entire synopsis is written up on the SC2 main website explaining everything that has taken place from the end of the Broodwar to beginning of the SC2

When I played the original, I only focused on the single player campaigns. I think I may have engaged in multiplayer once or twice. My only concern about SCII is that it looks like the gameplay is identical to the original; Build, Upgrade, and Destroy. I hope I'm wrong.

Also, I agree that Blizzard Trailer animations are incredible. I have said for years, they should branch off and create feature length movies based on their CGI technology. They could give Pixar a run for their money. The World of Warcraft movie should really be animated.

There are thousands of gameplay videos from beta and blizzard's been releasing gameplay videos on their website for 2 years. Are a few cinematic videos really that big of a deal?

Clearly there's a lot of people excited about the game. It's just cool to see a cinematic like that for something people are excited about. It's not like blizzard released that trailer as a "this is what starcraft 2 is like" statement.

i went to my gamestop today asked him if they had a midnight launch and he said yes but he also laughed and said it's going to be crazy. He said they had 100 preorders at this store and another 200 or so at the other store down the street. he only got 2 collector's editions and they both were preorder months ago when they were annouced. I'm not sure if i want to wait in that line at midnight i'm debating it.

wow, only 2 CE's?? I live in a small town of 6000 in canada and our eb games still managed 20 CE's, last time I talked to them 2 days ago they had 1 left that was yet to be pre-ordered. Of course were not doing a midnight launch though as beyond the CEs there were almost no preorders so there just going to open up 1-2 hours earlier instead of their normal opening time of 10am.

Silly Canadians...

I live in basically a tiny College Town in South Carolina (the majority of residents are from the University). We have one gamestop... and I'm very glad that it's the summer or else I'd likely get trampled during the midnight release. Even our local wal-mart has posters plastered up of SC2 available at midnight.

haha Ive never seen our walmart do a midnight release except for halo 3. If only we had a college in our town, mabey then we would have some good gamers as well lol, unfortuanlly were a very big oil town, lots of money and a small population. Nice place to live if you can afford the housing, fairly quiet and easy to drive in. Hate living in big cities because of traffic.

Here in Edmonton (Alberta, Canada), we're doing midnight launches at pretty much every store that sells SC2.

Oh well thanks to my birthday and the giftcards I asked for the CE is costing me $5 for the deposites :D

Hahaha how is it our fault?! :p. I won't be getting it day of cause I pre-ordered from gamestop.com a while ago (before Canada had the CE to pre-order).

Sholdn't have trouble getting it. I work that day at *insert retail store* and I know who will be putting them out. We didn't take preorders but do do holds so I'm hoping the stocker can put a CE on hold right then and there.

I haven't been excited for a game in this way since I was a kid.

I. Cant. Wait.

well besides the random crazies dancing on the side of the roads around the west edm. mall, distracting everyone (although I admit they are veyr funny to watch) or the constant tail gaters who seem surprised every time you slow down or stop and almost hit you, or the people that run 4 ways and finger you for honking, besides those reasons its not your fault ;)

Whats gamestop chargin you for shipping?

24.95 for shipping, but I had a 25% coupon code so in total, 104 USD shipped. A bit more than here... ah well.

This. Don't have time to replay to re-remind myself of the story though. :/ Only part of it that toubles me is why Kerrigan got captured. There are really only two options, she knew what she'd become or she would've offed herself. We all know what happened.
I don't think she knew what she'd become. I read the books and I think Kerrigan just thought she was going to die...although it's been a long time since I read them. I think the Overmind was the one who felt her psychic prowess and converted her to the Queen of Blades.

Anyone preorder from Gamestop online? What does your order say when you check it in My Account? Mine still says Open and Verifying.

What else would you expect it to say? They're not going to charge you until they ship it. I ordered mine from EBgames, which is the same thing, and mine also says open.

I pre-ordered the CE from GameStop and they've already charged me. Earlier today, my order status said "Pending" which meant that it would ship in the next business day, but has since then changed to "Ships 7/27". I'm still expecting it to ship on Monday though. The cool thing is that I did have the free 3-day shipping, but I called to change it to overnight shipping and they didn't charge anything for it. I just wonder when the carrier (UPS or FedEx?) will get to my house on Tuesday.

What the hell mine is still Verifying. Anyone else?

Pre-ordered in April and it just says ready to ship on 27th or something like that.

I am still on the fence over SC2. It's really weird why I feel so torn about pro/nay.

The moves by Activision lately has left significant sour taste in my mouth. Realid is the most recent one and the death of Infinity Ward being another. On the other hand, I've been a RTS guy since C&C, and of course SC2 has been something that I've been hoping to see...

sigh.

Just saw the trailer on youtube. It was horrible. 100% Hollywood chock filled with cringe worthy one liners. I can't believe they spend 100 millions dollars to gives us this crap. I had to watch the intro to Brood War to cleanse my eyes.

Anyone else notice blizzard REALLY cranking up the advertisement machines now that its close to launch? I see two ads in a single Slashdot article, and three advertisements on the frontpage of IGN alone. Is this even necessary? Who hasn't heard of starcraft by now?

Ads all over youtube.

well where i live we have 3 gamestops right next to each other with in a qtr. mile radius.
each store has their own launch. I went to the newest store they just built last year and luckily it has the fewest preorders but the guy said likely there will be maybe 40 people their but still thats alot in a line. i'm wondering if there is going to be free swag ?? The biggest midnight launch for me was when i went to pick up Burning Crusades that was insane!! at least 200 people or so should up i didn't get home til like 2am. but i got the most free swag ever ! the guy in front of me bought 4 collectors editions !

Dude, I'm right there with you. Besides not wanting to feed the Acti-Blizz monster that wants nothing more than to command pay-to-play models for any type of game, I'm just not sold on how awesome everyone claims this will be.

Harvest -> Build -> Spam/Tech -> Spam games went out a looooooong time ago if you're a fan of the RTS genre (imo). What Relic did with Company of Heroes and the Dawn of War series, I just don't think I can go back to that mindset. When a game comes down to build order and unit volume over actual use of units, it just feels so shallow.

I LOVED Warcraft 2. I liked Starcraft and Warcraft 3 just fine, too. I just really don't feel like I've seen/read anything about this game to make me believe it's the game of the century. It looks like the SAME game with some slightly different units and a new (yet still pretty unimpressive) engine. I was also never impressed with the Starcraft storyline so the incentive to get SC2 for the story isn't there.

There are two reasons I might get this game.
1) Both my brothers are getting this game. We haven't gamed as a trio since my younger brother went X360 over PC.

2) The well fleshed out editor should add a ton of variety. It'll be the PC's Little Big Planet.

Yea, I've watched at least 20+ gameplay videos.

It looks like watching Starcraft with a face-lift. The mechanics are old and pretty much dead to me. I want something different, not a rehash.

It certainly plays different though. Being able to smart cast and smart build with the shift key alone changed the way I played significantly. It leaves more attention spent on controlling your units instead of waiting a worker to move to a location and build. Like shift-building supply depots for terran or shift-chronoboost buildings for protoss since you can select and group buildings now.

In short, I'll never want to go back to the SC style controls. I dunno if the same sentiments are shared for high level players, but it's certainly welcome for average players like myself.
