Starcraft 2 Beta

You guys have to check my new favorite player, "TheLittleOne" He plays random and his game sense is freaking incredible. Very unique player. Apparently he's coming from Supreme Commander and kicked ass there. There are a few more VODs of him if you search on youtube or TL.net, but these two I'm linking are my favorite SC2 matchs since beta started.

Epic game sense, part 1 of 1:

Epic match, parts 1 through 4:

Can't follow those right now but I assume you are linking to the crazy TvP that lasted forever in the TLI Ro4. That was one craaazy game.

I've got a quick question : How do I un-hotkey a group? Say I make my nexus/hatchery/command center to 4 on the keyboard, how do I remove it from 4?

Good question. So far I've just overwritten a group. I'd love to know if there's another way.

htphm42 - It is super super impressive micro. It requires a ton of gas to pull off since Sentries cost so much gas, but if you can do it then you can see how well it pays off. I haven't played much in the last few weeks but I've definitely cut down on Stalkers in my Tier 1 armies.

GGs resuomrebU!!! We won a few matches and are currently placed 3rd 2v2 plat! Even though it's clearly very easy to ranked fairly high in plat 2v2. :) GGs though and you are an awesome Zerg player.

Just started playing tonight after having the beta for a week now. Need do to a lot of work on my macro. I just can't seem to pull myself away from fights when they break out. Any suggestions ("play moar games" excluded)?

Also, I've decided to play random from the start. Would you say that's a good or bad thing with a new player? I'm not new to RTS per se, just SC2 in particular (my SC1 knowledge really doesn't help a whole lot I find). I'd like to get to learn all the races, but not sure if the learning curve would be better playing a bunch of matches as one race, then switching once comfortable.

I'd try to get the basic builds, timings, and counters down, but that's just me. When you start learning something then you switch races, I dunno, it seems like it would be harder to learn unless you had ridiculous aptitude for RTS builds and tactics. Your call, but maybe send a day or two with each race before randoming it up. :)

I just got the Beta key from a friend that works at Blizzard and WOW, this game is awesome. If there is a link some where in this topic that has some great strategies on this game I would appreciate it (I'm not going to search through 37 pages). I feel like my drones/SUVs/probes are mining WAY too slow. I need some strategies.

SIGH! I am currently in class working on a project, first day back after my last quarter. Today marks then end of a long and wonderful week of Starcraft 2! I'm fairly certain most of my playing time is highly diminished now. DAMN YOU LIFE! :)

Its cool, you'll have tons of time to play it when it comes out this summer!

That has to be the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. Almost like they were being controlled by a machine. That guy is not human.

I know, its really amazing sentry micro. Its a very gas heavy build and it requires a lot of quick thinking but if you're good with that F+SHIFT+click, look out. :)

Just played HDStarcraft 3 games, got schooled all three times. I still have to figure out the zerg matchup. I'm still too new to terrans and I am still having problems adjusting to the zerg expanding play style.

I think you'd be better served by playing the same race several games in a row at a time. It helps develop familiarity with build orders and hotkeys that might not be "sinking in" with constant random play. However you don't want to completely specialize just yet.

As for macro - beyond developing solid starting build orders I've found that the biggest problem that I have is a lack of effective hotkeys. If you can keep your armies and your factories all hotkeyed then you should be able to quickly switch between fighting and queing up units without having to move the camera at all. It's a good idea to keep a production scv/probe hotkeyed so you can quickly jump to it and produce a building and jump back to your army in just a few seconds. In general, the less time you spend jumping around the map looking for and selecting things, the faster you'll be.

If anyone who is in gold league or plat in 1v1 wants to play, shoot me a message or PM here. Or add me in game refraxion.refraxion. I need as much match up experience as possible!

anyone wanna trade for my friend invite key?

looking for a unused dirt 2 or codmw2 coupon code.

I'll give you a big thank you for it :D And a big fuck you to Blizzard for encouraging profiteering while screwing SC fans. :D

You would think with a system like his, he'd have the money to get the game he wanted lol.

I am waiting for the Friends of friends of friends wave! Then I will get to play on Bnet...

ALERT: If you are on Facebook then you might want to become a fan of Starcraft

http://www.facebook.com/StarCraft

For the next three weeks they will be posting beta keys at random. They already posted five today.

Now, you'll be competing with tens of thousands of other fans without keys, but its worth a shot!

Ok, somebody tell me if I am just lucky or what.
I applied for the beta last night and checked battle.net today just for the heck of it and SC2 was listed. I am downloading the installer now.
Will I need a key as well? Or is it included in the installer?
Thanks

You are officially lucky. You're good to go, the only thing you need a key for is to create the SC2 link in your BNet account. If its there then you're in. Awesome game, have fun!
