Starcraft 2 Beta

Everything graphics wise was smooth for me maxed. However, when spec'ing multiple computers fighting against each other, it seems when the combined APM went above 2000ish I started to lag. Doesn't seem to happen during matches vs real people. Even on 4v4 maps and tons of units, I don't lag.
4ai v 4ai I would even get a popup now and then telling me to lower my graphics settings.

I'm running a C2D and 5770 and 4GB of RAM on Win7 and I found the game to be a little smoother on high settings rather than ultra. There were times when everything was on ultra that the game would chop just a bit, and it was usually when there were lots of units in a battle. I don't know if their unit AI was the problem or what, but the game definitely slowed just enough to be noticeable. The difference between high and ultra was pretty minimal anyway, so it really didn't make a difference visually that I could see.

with my 5770, I run everything on High at 1900x1200 and its smooth as silk. I can't tell the difference between high and ultra.

GTX 280 everything maxed. I find playing at 1920x1080 actually gives more horizontal vision compared to 1200. Trying playing around with it. We all know seeing something 1 second earlier can make a difference in this game.

My laptop with an I5 5650 and 4 gigs of ram played it on High with no problems.

Can't wait for Tuesday

Yeah that trailer brought tears to my eyes, LOL!

I was saddened to see that my BETA was removed from my Blizzard account. Has this happened to everyone else?

That video is awesome. It's odd though, when I saw the 100% on the Dominion mini-site earlier today, it didn't link to the full trailer. Instead, it linked to the 30 second TV ad that's been on YouTube for a while. Watching the video makes the wait feel a little bit longer. :D

Yes, it's no longer needed anymore and should be uninstalled. That is unless you're still using the whole cracked AI to play offline thing.

1 Full Game + 2 expansions. Definitely not like you read.

The first one coming out is Terran campaign only. The expansions are going to be campaigns based on the other races, Zerg and Protoss. As far as multiplayer goes, all 3 races will be available (obviously).

Anyone in Canada know a better deal then Bestbuys free 5 dollar gift card for pre-ordering? Futureshop has a free copy of SC1, but I have that already so no point really. Probably should have ordered earlier anyways to try out beta.

Was thinking about maybe waiting for the possible flood of Collectors Editions being resold haha...

Okay I'm really tired of talking about the way the game is being split up.

The game is a Trilogy, but the next two iterations aren't two full priced games. The idea is that Wings of Liberty includes all of the functionality for a full game, and a single Terran Campaign that is as long or longer than all three campaigns(Terran, Protoss, and Zerg) combined from Starcraft 1. It is a full game, and the expansions will each have a Campaign equally as long as Wings of Liberty. Each part of the trilogy focuses on one race, so it's like having three full single player campaigns for each race.

For some reason I always thought Kerrigan was black. Am I the only one who thought she had dreads in her unit portrait in the first game?

I was way off.

I think it might have been due to the limitations of graphics back then. Rendering 3D hair is actually extremely difficult (the unit portraits were done off 3d renders from what I remember?)

I don't even know if any of SC1 was 3D except for cut scenes... considering FRAPs won't even recognize it as a 3D app when I loaded it the other day

Yeah, all the animated portraits and other animations like the menu screens were pre-rendered "movie" files. Most of the game's units and buildings were probably pre-rendered and scaled down to 2D as well. It was a pretty clever way of presenting 2D games back in the day.

Did the beta see good gains from running crossfire?

Seems to for me. I have the same setup, 2 4850's. I'm playing on 1920x1200 on ultra, I haven't noticed much slowdown, I guess I should maybe pay more attention for it but I'm pretty sure my frame rate is above 50

Gains? Yes, pretty damn good gains. Bugs? Hell yea for me. I got this weird bug in xfire where there would be invisible zones on the map where my units would disappear and I wouldn't be able to select or see them while they were in there. I posted it on their forums but didn't really make a big deal out of it since one 5870 destroys the game anyway.

Had that been EA we'd have Starcraft Ghost 4 : Black Ops 2 by now, tho if Kotick gets his way that's exactly what will eventually happen.
