Starcraft 2 Beta

I always get a chuckle from looking at this one

Lol, thats actually kinda funny. Too bad this strat really only works in gold or below :(. If you're terran you need to mix up your army composition, mass mauds = you get owned. Then again.. same can be said about zerg/protoss. Mass stalkers, sentries, mutas, blings, zerglings. XD;

If it was maybe pre patch 7 or 8 I would agree thats what all terrans did.. but after the upgrade switch I've seen more diverse unit compositions.

This graphic certainly is not a single strat, but it does typically end up that way for almost any Terran player in the end. That's the joke, they have a few harassment options, they can't make mech work, so they typically get mostly marauders and a few other units to compliment them. That seems more or less the point of the graphic, and every Terran player does bitch at me a bit too much when they lose. I don't even use Voidrays, I could actually use the one imbalance, but I don't. EMP is totally insane, but I don't protest it non-stop or make thousands of threads complaining about it all over the blizzard forums. Just move on and keep playing, I agree Terran is underpowered, but there's still plenty of time for patches. People can't just be satisfied that they have an exclusive look at an unreleased game.

P.S. I condone giving feedback on Blizzard forums, but the amount of voidray threads is "power overwhelming". There are some really terrible "nerf marauder" threads as well, it's just a big shit storm of name calling.

Mmm.. from the games I've seen and played, most terrans no longer rely on marauders.. in fact relying on marauders as a crutch is pretty stupid :(. Mech actually works very well against protoss, if you know how to use them.

That picture seems to be a very old representation of how Terrans used to play.

Terran isn't underpowered, in fact I'd say they are the most diverse of all three races.. its just that most of their diverse options get shut down. Mech still destroys protoss if used right though. In fact.. I favor mech play against protoss over anything, haha.

I just got wiped by a fleet of 30 battle cruisers, just owned my legion of stalkers. But I do have to be fair it was was 2v1 and I would've been owned anyway =\

You're right that mech is a viable option against protoss, with ghosts of course. I'm saying that it's still pretty standard to see a lot of marauders, every Terran seems to bitch because they're marauders fail. I wouldn't exactly call you a typical Terran player. You're right that terran can be a diverse race, but most terran players are not diverse. Protoss is a very diverse race, but most protoss players are not diverse and are very predictable.

Ask ken, the other night I saw stalkers preparing to blink into his base during a 2v2 from a mile away. After a certain point, with most players on battle.net, it's pretty obvious what they're going to do.

Also, you're a Terran player so of course you think Terran is the most diverse race :). I think protoss is the most diverse race because I'm a protoss player, but the truth is each race has the same amount of attack units. Which typically means there's probably going to be about an equal amount of unit compositions for each, it's just a matter of discovering them.

I play Random and think Zerg are the most diverse

Zerg is supposed to be the least diverse, they have four less attack units than the other races. Pretty cool that you feel that way though, it is a subjective argument however. Refraxion and I both played random as well.

You are correct, sir! :p. I am still trying to find some other units I can have to throw in in a fight.. I should start learning more about the units and theory craft while sleeping LOL.

Ever since I dumped my MMM strat I have doing alot better. After I kicked down from plat to gold, it just wasn't cutting it. Now moving back up the ranks. Hopefully I can return to plat once I get my strat down more.

I wish I could take someone out with mass ghosts. But they are so expensive.

get a few ghosts against someone who masses mutas.. you'd be surprised how much snipe rocks them. Or you can just go thors.. which is always a good option haha.

But yeah a mass ghost army would be pretty awesome.. stealth in and just rock em.

I lover Terran players who jumps straight to marauders...such easy targets for my cheap zerglins, especially when they're not clumped up.

I don't understand why people do it now. I generally start with 2 rax. 1 with each addon. I make 1 marauder per 4-6 marines. Then usually only end up with like 6 or 7 in my first wave before I rotate something else into the mix.

Just for kicks I am going to try a ghost heavy build. Though I wonder what other units I should compliment them with so I don't get slaughtered early.

mass marines and ghosts? haah.. since ghosts are so gas heavy.. it could be like the zerg muta/ling build haha. Have a clump of marines and a bunch of ghosts mixed in.

Anybody catch that the Blizzard main page has the July 27th release date for the game up now? Or am I just retarded and behind the times?

Haha no need, but I'm pumped for the games release! Some of my friends wont bother playing the SC2 beta, instead they want to just wait till the game is fully out. :p

I'm a little nervous about pre-ordering the CE from Gamestop and it clearly says I will not receive mine until 2 days after the release. So that seems a little weird. I have been to busy playing the beta too look into it. :)

Does anyone know of a way to hotkey produce with warp gates, without focusing and taking the time to target the unit? The speed helps but I can just select the nexus, gateways, stargates, etc. and queue up (usually el cheapo).

Or is that just the tradeoff, more of a micro unit factory?

Marine ghost would be really F-ing cool if it works, would be a good counter to zealot + sentry 4 gate pushes, and probably immortal pushes. I think it would work really well against most toss players. Sounds little scary actually. Stimmed marines do more DPS than marauders.

Haha yeah, but you would need quite a bit of marines with shield/stam upgrade. I agree it would look effing awesome. In fact, maybe I should try it.. since DT's wouldn't be too useful since emp would rape them pretty hard...

The only problem I think that could arise is a mass amount of stalkers with blink, thats pretty much it though, maybe add in one or two void ray in the back. But I'll have to see how viable that really is in a match since all BIO would get owned by colossus :p.

With an abundance of ghosts, if the protoss goes a mass amount of zealots, snipe would just tear them apart after EMP is thrown down.

I felt like that initially... but now I'm really glad I played the beta. I got a bunch of my RL friends really into it. One of them played nothing but WOW but we've played a lot of 2v2 together recently and even hit #1 in our platinum division. He's really pumped about it now.

Beta players will have a huge leg up at release though. I'm still a little confused about blizzard's ladder system... hopefully it's still being tweaked. Here are some confusing observations:

- generally I think 3-2 is silver, 4-1 is gold, 5-0 is platinum in placement matches. However, a friend and I went 4-1 in 2v2 and got placed in silver. We also didn't start with 1000 points like we should have, we started with like 988 instead, strange.
- My brother and I had to win many games in a row to go from gold -> platinum in 2v2. But the same friend I was in silver with actually got moved to gold from silver after a LOSS. That made no sense to me. We were rank 3 in our silver division, lost a game, then boom moved to gold.
- I'm not exactly sure how points work. It seems that it's far from zero sum which seems kind of cheesy. Also, I kind of dislike the whole getting bonus points for losing / inactivity. I understand that they want people to play even if they lose / suck, but it doesn't really promote a competitive ladder at the top.

Just on the other end here... I was in Gold and got moved into Silver after a WIN. Confused me also, hah.

Totally bummed, my 2's partner and I got matched up vs Husky and Ahnaris. As soon as I get into game I ctd and my partner leaves :(

that as whopping could have made its way to youtube for us all to enjoy. GAHH!!!

=P haha jk man.

My cousin CTD loading the game lastnight in a 1v1...sitting and waiting at the loading screen for 5 mins was so sad....only problem we had so far though.

i am a terran player and was trying to learn protoss. I play with randoms and i was trying to void ray rush. i got some bad teammates and got bumped down to silver. What is bonus pool?

Played for teh first time the other night did my 5 matches, figured I would get owned since it was my first time.

I went 5-0 against random people that obviously had never played a RTS before in their life, got placed in plat, and then lost 5 in a row until I went down to gold lol.

Heh I've had that before! My very first week into the sc2 beta I made it into plat first try (10 games in a row), then continued to get raped into gold haha.

Anyone that pre-ordered from Amazon how long did it take for you to get your key?

What did you guys say your skill level was? Seems like that would happen if you chose new player.

Do players generally get better over time? Or are you just either good or bad at strategy games? I'm constantly getting my ass handed to me, not really getting any better.

Start off with protoss and learn from there imo. They are by far the easiest class to learn, and not much emphasis on macro compared to zerg/terran, terran being the hardest by far.

Watch every replay afterwards, you'll notice trends on peoples builds, and learn counters as soon as possible.

I was already in 2 other platinum divisions so it was way beyond the 'choose your skill level' consideration. My friend was gold in 2v2 with another person as well. It just seems like a bug that the game started us out at 988 instead of 1000. I've done placement 5 or 6 times and everytime has been a clean 1000 start except for that.

Right now there seems to be a big cheesy strategy going on in platinum 2v2. In yet another one of my 2v2 platinum teams (I think it's my 4th), a friend and I (we are Zerg + Protoss) fought two Zerg + Terran teams and both did the exact same strategy:

- Zerg goes 6 or 7 pool and rushes the protoss player with 6 zerglings
- Terran goes standard 6 scv reaper rush and goes to the protoss player as well

This seems to be incredibly hard to counter for us. If I help with zerglings, the terran's reapers 2 shot my zerglings. He doesn't have quite enough zealots to deal with the 6 zerglings to begin with. The protoss player is in a lot of trouble from the get go. The only conceivable counter I can think of is rushing the terran player and hoping I can trade my protoss player for the terran... but I don't know if that can work. The terran can always lift off the command center after all and if my protoss partner is completely gone, then I'm in a lot of trouble.

Now these weren't just cheesy players either. We got -1 from both games. We were about 1150 at the time, one team was 1551 and the other was 1386 so it's obviously brought them a lot of success in platinum.

I just hope they tweak reapers somehow. As it stands, terran has two units that serve no other purpose than to harass the mineral line. That's just poor design. A lot of people complain about terran going only MnM, but honestly they don't have much of a choice with the current unit selection.
