I'm about to make my move, just cant decide. Y'all help. What do we need?

The one problem I see with this is the way the game uses instances.

This kind of thing can be great in a non-instanced world, where that "shop" he talks about is the only shop, but when you have like 10+ instances of that same zone with that shop how will they work all of that out/balance it?

Yeah you are right. The instanced aspect will probably make it hard for a clan/alliance to blockade a system too because there will always be instances where that clan/alliance is not.

I really hate instances in MMO's but they have said the instances are for technical reasons and I can see their point. 100 high poly ships is probably going to really push the limits of even high end gaming PC's. Maybe in the future they will slowly increase the number of ships per instance or even eliminate the instances.

I just picked up the Digital Colonel LTI pack.

Joining the ranks.... northrop with a Hornet

hell yeah. gonna have a hornet crew. might toss on a freelancer before november... we'll see ;P

I'm hoping the M50 is fast enough and manoeuvrable enough to keep up with other fighters. Otherwise maybe I should grab a Hornet instead, as I'd like to do mercenary work.

Well you will be able overclock ships systems, so maybe you can squeeze out your extra speed that way.

i dont think you have to worry about keeping up in an m50.

think of the Hornet as an X-wing, and the m50 as an A-wing

Hornet is slower and packs more of a punch, and has folding wing system similer to an F-14

22tons empty with 1 T4 engine

the m50 is a high speed lite fighter
14 tons empty with 2 T4 engines.

weighs less and has double the thrust potential

When I said "keep up", I meant keep up in a dogfight, sorry, I should have said that, lol. I'm hoping it can tangle with the fighters without just getting blown away because of lack of firepower and armour.

i think thats where pilot skill will come into play.

its prob harder to master a light fighter vs a more tankish fighter by comparison.

just need to learn the 5 D's of dodge laser.

Dodge Duck Dip Dive and Dodge.

i think an Ace pilot in a tricked out M50 should be able to smoke a hornet 1 on 1 and do circles around them.

i think a hornet and the M50 have the same number control thrusters too x8 t2 , so with the m50 being lighter at the same speed the m50 should handle better. the thrust nozzles have less inertia to overcome.

The turrets of the constellation can rotate 360 degrees we are not flying in an atmosphere fighting gravity where you have to constantly keep your nose going forward. we are flying in zero G space with fully modeled linear/angular momentum, inertia, etc.. That means you can do a small afterburner thrust, and with the maneuvering thrusters turn the ship 180 degrees and keep your forward momentum. Also forgot the Constellation can carry homing missiles.

I've played and still play the Freespace 2 Babylon 5 mod which also happens to have accurately modeled angular momentum flight physics in zero G space. Better go get it and start training, the learning curve to master it is pretty steep. ;)

Watch this video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83U5Oupj1RI
With enough training you should be able to do strafe maneuvers like at 2.48 and specially 3:26

Edit: I also remember them talking about impact from projectiles/missiles or energy weapons from larger ships altering/affecting the flight momentum of smaller ships like at 1:05 here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96idw23kHdY

A.) Blind spot, the 360 degree rotation means little.
B.) Yes, you can rotate the constellation. This means little as the Hornet (And other small fast ships) will move faster then the Constellation will be able to rotate.

Both points are grossly exaggerated. There's a reason the devs themselves call the Constellation a space superiority ship. It's a good thing we'll have the dog fighting alpha (after the August hangar module) to see how each ship stacks up. ;)

im pretty sure a Constellation decked out for War, will be a far far deadlier ship than one simply set up for trading or hauling of important goods or exploration.

i personally would not want to take a single hornet at one set up and geared for a major fight.

atleast not knowing how shields works. for all we know the Constellation set up for war might be able divert 90% of its energy to its shields and move like a turtle but then have the shield recharge capacity to outpace a single fighter trying to harass it.

where that same Constellation set up for speed and exploration might skimp on the shields to save some weight and have more power dedicated to thrust and sensor arrays.

to me it looks like the connie has a blind spot directly ontop and bottom becuase i dont think the turrets can look straight up they go up to a point and can turn 360, but not 100% vertical like 85-90% vertical.

edit-
i might be upgrading to the $125 freelancer pack today once my 24h grace period is up from my initial 30$ pledge to make sure i got Vet status yesterday. will be using that as my base pack and then add a hornet and m50 too it (i have a friend holding an extra m50 for me)

so my planned Hanger by end of august is m50, Hornet, Freelancer.

does anyone else think the freelancer looks like a big cock? or is that just me?

325a. I bought the upgrade from the 300i. I don't plan on buying any more ships since I don't want to take away the experience of buildup and earning them in-game. I think this game is going to be something absolutely special! I'm kind of frightened about the scope of the game and the ability of CIG to pull it off. I have a feeling the game is going to be delayed.

Moneyless - Hornet, Origin 325a, Origin M50, MISC Freelancer, Drake Caterpillar.

I've got way too much money sunk into this game...

WildAce - MISC Freelancer

ok its official, i currently have the Digital Freelancer - LTI pack.

since my planned ships are the m50, freelancer and Hornet it was most cost effective to get the Freelancer - LTI pack for $125 vs getting the Colonel pack.

Getting a Hornet addon is only $80 vs getting a freelancer addon for $110.

so its $30 cheaper this way when i get around to getting that Hornet.

Huh? The only Hornet I see as an add-on is $110. Where do you see it for $80?

I bought the Digital Freelancer as well.

yeah he probably looked at something else by accident. the only 80$ ship is the M50 I believe.

both the hornet and freelancer are the same exact price

110$ for addon

125$ for package

odd could of sworn it was 80 the other day. i didnt bother to check it today. ive looked at the hornet like 20 times over the past few days heh.

edit
they had to of noticed the mistake and changed it. because at one point i had the hornet and $65 bounty hunter pack in my cart for $145

it was on page 5 of this thread, 2am yesterday when it was only $80 for the hornet.

oh well its still close to my 300$ budget only 15$ over. would of been nice to have been under budget on something for once.

ill just pay my friend for my m50 hes holding and get the Hornet in august like planned.

ill be good to go then

m50 - High Speed Interception/Scouting.

Hornet - Dog Fighting/Escort.

Freelancer - General Trade and Exploration.

minimal fees from only having to insure modifications and equipment.

still want to pick up an X52 pro tho for HOTAS.

i already have track ir 5 and 3x 1080p displays for eyefinity so heres to hoping my system can push the game triple monitor lol.

If he did do that I wouldnt feel bad, since it would be the best pitched scam in history, and he would deserve the money.

I would imagine that doesn't matter. Nodes have nothing to do with sharded space zones. Nodes are all about the planets and those don't change no matter how many instances of the space above the planet exist.

I have a Constellation and Starfarer. Name Erasmus

Yeah, but you cannot effectively blockade a planet if the space around it is instanced.
