Spintires

Spintires was just pulled from the Steam Store today.
SPINTIRES™ on Steam

Apparently there were multiple time bombs planted in the game's code that are now causing the game to crash. Sources say the developer Pavel did this as he was getting screwed by his publisher.

Reddit thread with all the compiled information thus far:
SpinTires Publisher installed a time bomb in the games files for it to crash after a certain date. It went off and the game is no longer playable even though it's still for sale for $30. • /r/pcmasterrace

gotta imagine his career is done. his beef is with his publisher but his actions hurt an innocent third party

disagree, he wrote the best terrain interaction physics anyone has ever seen, I will buy his next effort without question

Totally sucks, I bought this game and the terrain interaction was incredible. My friends and I had lots of fun being complete jackasses and getting stuck/unstuck. Who thought driving big things in mud could be so fun.

>But there is in fact a time-related bug (a self-check uses time functions to see if game wasn’t cracked by pirates) which was not fixed in time (because we have little to no communicating with Oovee.)

bullshit. that is just an incredibly weak spin

Programmers have always done little things to annoy pirates. Nag screens that beg you to buy a legit copy after playing for X amount of time. I thought someone did a siren or other loud noise if you played the cracked version too long.. In some games the physics breaks.

In short he's most likely telling the truth.

There is no reason to timebomb a game 2 years ahead which will be long after most have stopped playing it. The people that crack these games crack pretty much everything within a few days, example being these "bugs"

So did we ever get our "Full, frank explanation" of the bug? It's talked about unofficially but I don't see any official explanation that they promised is coming.

Mum has been the word, but people are upset because it looks like the patch that made the game playable again has broken the tire tracking and mud splatter.

Their response.
An official word plus exciting news... - UPDATES: SPINTIRES Dev Blog

Comrade’s,

We would like to apologise for the recent time-bomb related bug that prevented you from playing Spintires, it was totally unacceptable and we appreciate the frustration it must have caused you.

A member of our community named ‘Localhost’ along with our Moderators had kindly provided you with a temporary fix that you could use whilst we continued to produce the official fix.

Luckily we have now identified and fixed the bug which was not sabotage like some of the media suspected. The bug was identified by Pavel when running an older test build side-by-side with a newer build - it turns out it was some code that Pavel had invented to try and deal with piracy and DRM issues.

Pavel explains here: “bug was related to self-checks that which I tried to invent myself to prevent the game from being pirated and modded”.

After the recent media speculations, it’s entirely up-to-you if you will believe such a story or not. However, with that said, we accept responsibility for not communicating with our community as much as we should have and perhaps if we had done so, the guesswork by the media wouldn't have been steered so negatively.

It was interesting to read the conspiracy theories about sabotage from the media though, especially when an unnamed media outlet clearly announced they haven’t even contacted Oovee at all about the subject. It does highlight the fact you should only consider official statements directly from the Oovee forum or website as true.

We would like to take the opportunity to thank our moderators and members who supported us during these difficult times, your actions do not go unnoticed.

Now it’s time to move onto something more positive…

Behind the dense forests, swampy lakes (or big black twisters) we have been working hard to secure a deal with a partner, and it is with great pleasure we can now announce that Spintires will be coming to both Xbox One and PS4 expected to arrive early 2017.

If you are not a fan of consoles, do not fear - it is also good news for our PC fans since it now means we will be expanding the development team for that platform as well! It may have taken us some time to secure and announce such a deal but work has already commenced and in the next few months you will hear more details about the ports and additional updates for the PC platform too.

Many thanks for your continued support, love and inspiration.

Zane Saxton, and everyone from Oovee.

Discussion can commence here.

IDK, because I didn't play any missions...

I just wandered around in the lifted // mod trucks & jeeps on the stock Volcano map.

Then I added user maps that didn't work, tried reverting to LEGACY & they still didn't work, then returned to current version & they worked!

I also added the Realism HD mod & ran 1 user map w/ mod trucks & LIFE IS GOOD.
~ another link to the same mod - Spintires Realism HD 2017 - Oovee® Game Studios

PS: *If you want to do some 4-wheel'n online - PM me [H]ere or friend me on STEAM.

Well multi-player was a lot of FUN for 2 maps w/ 1 guy, but it was also an exercise in frustration...

I tried several rounds in MP today & was happy to see the game can auto-DL some "mods" (vehicles only?) if you don't have them, but I never figured out if MAPS get DL'd - because 95% of games failed to load & when they did load - 95% of players DO NOT have a MIC & can't even text chat in English...

Soooo.... all I want now is to get 4 guys online with the same map & the same truck & do some trails.

MAP: Black Diamond, WA - Oovee® Game Studios

TRUCK: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=946314939&searchtext=dodge

If that works - we can do anything!!!!!

How about tonight @ 6pm CT (Chicago // Central Time) ???

Really fun and totally unique game that could have really taken off if it wasn't for whatever developer/publisher drama bullshit... So much wasted potential (even though it's a lot of fun as-is.)

I'm going to be Spinning Tires all day today - so if you want to DL some GREAT user maps & do some wheelin' today --- find me on STEAM & join my game (mod trucks & jeeps will auto DL - but the maps need to be installed before you can join a multiplayer game).

I typically play "follow the leader" style w/ constantly changing leaders as people get stuck, rescued, or lead by speed & we always start from the garage heading left or clockwise - on the outer most trail of any map & then keep tightening the circle - always heading left & spiraling towards the center of the map.

Friend me on STEAM

I have a TON of maps installed, but you should have these at a minimum...

Level Blackwater Canyon Latest Stable - Spintires.nl

Level - Planz Extreme Spintires - Spintires.nl (2 maps are linked at the bottom - 4x4 & loggin)

Time to do this again !!!!!!!! I still have a lot of land to explore on these two maps.

I started wheelin' on Blackwater Canyon with a buddy on Friday (he shall remain nameless, but I call him GRANNY!) He never leaves 1st gear, so I passed him & started bombing the goat trails in 2-3rd gear but also ended up on my roof a lot, so it was nice when he caught up to throw me a winch... we had some hilarious times with the winch in various scenarios. Then there was this one time at band camp when he started winching in neutral w/ the brake off & we both ended up on our roof at the bottom of a canyon. Laughed our asses off.

He had to leave, so I ran Planz Extreme by myself for another 2 hours! That map is a blast.

I started on the brown / mud trail (gray is an easy road, brown is a mud trail), but there is a yellow trail (intermediate?) and a yellow / red trail (difficult?) that I'll do eventually. I spawned at a garage in the the lower left corner (about the 7 o'clock position) and started going clockwise on the outermost trail and only made it to the 12 o'clock position after a few self rescues. Basically, if I rolled it, I'd go back to the garage, get another jeep & high tail it to my position using the main roads & then the trails to the rescue point.

I quickly realized that I could tow my rescue vehicle to a flat spot so I didn't have to go all the way back to the garage if I rolled it again, but I had 5 rigs at the garage & tried different trucks / jeeps for different rescues at different times.

Because I wanted to do the outer loop, I took the gray road from 12 o'clock to the upper right corner (which I'll call 1 o'clock) and then switched to the yellow / red trail to 3 o'clock and rolled it...

It was an epic day!

index-9.jpg

Today, I expect to spawn at the garage in the lower left corner (7 o'clock) again but will break protocol by going counter clockwise on just the brown trail (going NE for a bit, then SE to the lower right corner (5 o'clock) then North to the 3 o'clock position. Too bad you can't save a MP game, it would be cool to rescue my original jeep...

Anyway, I'm a lunatic, but if you want to come wheelin' w/ me - I'm going to launch a MP game now.

Friend me on STEAM & get the maps...

Is this game safe to play....? I remember some drama ages ago where a patch effectively put a time bomb in the game files or something.

I actually really liked this game, but I'm afraid to reinstall it.

Yesterday, I was wheelin' @ Level - Planz Extreme Spintires - Spintires.nl (2 maps - 4x4 & loggin)

I ran the same trail with 2 different vehicles....

The first one was a big heavy weight truck & the second was a little, light weight Jeep.
~ 1st / virgin Tundra run vs an hour before the Jeep run so day-light & colors changed a bit + I had to check the map a lot!

You can get the trucks on STEAM here:

(ccs) Jeep Guys yj @ http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=779221902&searchtext=(ccs)+jeep

I started making a really neat map over a year ago, never finished it. Was inspired by all the tight n twisty trails up here in the PNW. Game was a ton of fun, it's neat people are still playing it. Had tons of potential. The one gripe which kind of made me quit playing was the grip on the rocks. No matter how much I modded my map and changed the friction on the rocks, it never worked. They are too slippery. Maybe I'll play it again lol.

I really really wish this game had some sort of story mode. The sandbox stuff is cool and all that but it just feels kind of empty. Also you shift to another map... and lose everything? It could really become something pretty awesome with a bit of effort.

Do you still have the map? Maybe we can try it with Jeeps for a beta run in MP?

Were you running big logging trucks on the rocks or were you making rock sections for wheelin'?

I'm shocked at the crazy rocks I can climb with the various jeep crawlers & tube rigs....

Goin' wheelin' again now - watch on twitch or use the green JOIN GAME button on steam...
