I meant how does it compare in terms of best PS4 games of this generation...does it match up with the best of the best like God of War etc?

Maybe between Dad of Boy and Horizon. God of War might go down as my favorite PS4 game in general. Spidy is really good, but it definitely shares some of the open world issues as other open world titles. I need to play more, but so far Spidy is a lot of fun but nothing really seems to have a lot of emotional weight really. It seems to be a really good Spider-man story and is probably the Arkham Asylum for Spider-man, but we'll see.

Too early for me to say, but I'm really enjoying it so far. Maybe not the likes of God of War, but definitely at least as good as Horizon: Zero Dawn.

I'd have to agree. I'm a ways in, but nowhere near the end as far as I can tell. God of War is one of my favorite games in recent memory, absolutely easily in my top 10 favorites, and near the top of that list. I loved HZD as well, and I'd place this right alongside that in terms of quality and entertainment value. Spider-Man has fantastic production value and great attention to detail, but God of War is something far more special, at least in my eyes.

This is easily the best realization of Spiderman in videogames that any of us have ever seen.

I'm tempted to shorthand it for people on the fence and say "It's the Infamous games with Spiderman" (which would be good enough really)... but that doesn't do it justice.

^^ I love the salutes and little touches like that.

Last night I took at least a good half hour or so to get my swinging down and just take photos of landmarks around the city.

While doing that, I landed on the street and started casually engaging people and occasionally there's a button prompt for a little something extra. The game actually gave me achievement trophies just for doing that stuff.

I'm not that into Spider-man on the whole, and while this game does look pretty good, I kinda just don't understand the hype around it.

I'll probably pick it up eventually but honestly I feel no rush to do so.

The key is to ignore the people who just talk to talk, and disseminate what's great unanimously, and what needs work. The good outweighs any of the "bad" (quotes because there isn't anything bad, unless you love to nit-pick), and this game is absolutely worth a play-through if your idea of a fun game involves Spider-Man, very high production values, great combat, great story, superb attention to detail. If you're not into the subject matter, then you could look at it at face-value as a great game where you're dropped into an open-world with the ability to amass a slew of skills and gadgets to take down baddies with. If you're not into any of that, then no one can really persuade you otherwise. That's what it really boils down to.

This is more like the Batman Arkham games than Infamous. I really can't say enough good things about it. Sony is hitting home runs with their exclusive titles lately.

Just finished the main story line. Absolutely worth the cost, and I say that as someone who usually ends up regretting video game purchases ( the hype is so often so much better than the reality ).

Great game. One of those games that sucks you in with "one more mission", and next thing you know it's 4:00am.

That's fair. That description makes it sound like another Arkham or Shadow of MorWarDor game, which honestly I'm kind of over unless it brings something really new to the table. Spider-man does have the cool world traversal and it does seem very polished, so I'll likely pick it up eventually.

The mechanics feel very Arkham. But the swinging throughout the city is so much fun. The game feels real polished. They definitely step up the difficulty level about a 1/4 of the way up...you gotta think a bit during battling. I really like the skins, upgrades, and skills.

You get fast travel at some point in the game, and it brings it's own kind of entertainment, but I usually chose to swing my way to where ever I was going because it's almost...zenlike, swinging throughout the city.

I love this game.

It's a shame it won't likely ever port out to the PC (4k 60+ with all the eye candy would be something else here) but this is an example of why people need to have multiple platforms so they don't miss out on titles like these.

I am about 50% completed, completing as much as I can as I move forward. Have most of the collectibles, trying the challenges, and the wave battles.

I ended up burning through the story in about 8 hours because the city being in chaos was a bit too much for me and I just wanted to stop simple jewelry store robberies. Great game, 9/10.

I just finished this game with 100 percent completion half an hour ago and I can say without reserve this game is nothing less than a triumph from top to bottom. 9/10 for sure.

I just picked this up on sale for $40. So far, really fun. Even just swinging around the city is a lot of fun. I also like how there's non-combat gameplay like the puzzles to do as well.

The map system really feels good - shows all of the collectibles, easy to see where they are, and also there's actually a reason to collect all the stuff.

I binged this game and just finished it today. Really good game, got a bit repetitive with some of the crime and base missions, and I didn't even finish them all. Also, the challenge stuff was really annoying. Not going to bother getting gold on them.

Sony has acquired Insomniac Games

The developer has always been close with the publisher...they created Spyro the Dragon and Ratchet & Clank, but they’ve technically been independent until now...Insomniac now joins teams like Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch as a wholly owned first-party PlayStation developer...

“Joining the WWS family gives Insomniac even greater opportunities to achieve our studio vision of making positive and lasting impressions on people’s lives,” said Ted Price, Insomniac Games founder and CEO, in a statement. “We’ve enjoyed a special relationship with PlayStation practically since our inception. Our partnership amplifies our potential.”

I played about 2 hours, maybe 3 and i feel it's already repetitive. I just can't get back into it. Feels like first assasin's creed, once the awesomeness of flying around the city wears off, i'm just bored.

Game is very repetitive. Story and game play is on point tho. Haven't played the dlc cause it does just look like more the same shit and really had my fill of the game by the time I beat it.

Guess the hopes of this coming to PC just died.

Looks like Sony let Quantic Dream go and happily let them buy their IP and bought a studio that is putting out better games to replace them.

I just don't get why they would use a different face model. It's just weird and sounds like a likeness payment dispute.

This is kind of garbage, because Sony only sells this as an up-sell on the $70 deluxe Miles Morales game (base game is $50 since it's shorter than this Spider Man game) with no way to buy the game separately and also no free or discounted upgrade path for the PS4 version owners. Wouldn't be a big deal if they would just sell the game separately for $20 or so.

But the other issue is that your game saves from the PS4 version don't carry over to it either, which Sony hasn't even clarified how or if game saves on PS4 will carry over to PS5 even when playing BC PS4 titles. I would assume they will, but the fact that they haven't clarified any of that yet is a bit annoying at this point considering MS has been pretty clear on how BC works for a while now.

I'd be very surprised if they don't offer it stand-alone later. Right now they're clearly using it as a way to get people in early. Which...Totally worked for me. I didn't even think twice about pre-ordering the Ultimate Edition.

Sony has been very vague and unclear about most things with this launch. It really feels like they weren't ready for everything. I think it's pretty clear why they were planning to skip E3 (pre-COVID, when E3 was actually happening).
