Sony says it is looking into reports of PS4 hardware failures though it believes the issues are "isolated incidents." So far the problems listed have been a DOA console, HDMI issue, hard drive failure and a PS4 that just "sits there pulsing blue." I guess we'll know after tomorrow whether these really are isolated incidents or wide spread issues.

A number of early PS4 owners are reporting various display problems with their console. At least four claims of broken consoles have been posted online, two from games websites and two competition winners. These represent a small, but not negligible, percentage of systems already available ahead of launch.

Another good reason not to snag either this or the XB1 when they hit. After the horror stories stemming from the RRoD incidents, if I get any new console, it won't be for a few years after the hardware and/or software issues have been largely known and fixed.
 
Maybe Sony was mad about that contest promotion that they weren't told about. I heard they were pissed when the winners were told they were to get their console before everyone else. In retaliation, here's some lemons.
 
Oh boy. This story is going around the web faster than the speed of light. Seen it on at least a half dozen major sites sofar. Sony gonna have to activate the Oh Shit Damage Control people on this one. Microsoft could easily use this as ammo if they wanted to, although given the Xbox 360 track record, maybe they won't. :p

Disclaimer: We all know of the BSOD. Just making a point.

I know the PLOD was nowhere near the issues of RROD, to think that Sony is infallible is silly. Microsoft did a lot of research to try and ensure the RROD or it's likeness wouldn't return, I'm not saying we won't see issues with the Xbox ONE. The problem Sony has right now is that the PS4 isn't even officially launched, yes there are only a few problems kicking out there, but there are also very few PS4's out there to.

Yeh this sucks obviously QC issues, would be a lmao if sony responded to these and said the same quip "we never stated working PS4, we just said A PS4" they would be out of business so fast but would be a ROFLMAO

Pretty much this.

I've had several experience with PC hardware that weren't working out of the box, or died during its warranty period. I just RMA them, no big deal. No assembly line in the world is perfect, there's always a margin of error that results in dead units.

If we start seeing a majority of users facing the same problem, then yeah something is wrong.
 
All the cables you connect to PS3s or PS4s, you want them sitting there in their sockets, and not being stretched or bent. I was bad with my PS3 and had a HDMI cable in it that ended up with a clearly rotated end-plug (!) and a damaged HDMI port that makes 720p possible but 1080p difficult to get.

Also avoid patching up DC Universe Online, that patch has boned at least three PS4s.
 
Thank god for other early adopting guinea pigs. I feel sorry for them for having to go through all the growing pains of a launch product but at the same time I laugh at their need to have the latest and not-so-greatest.
 
8 units out of ~4000 given by taco bell, 444 from the NY event and how many others on the hands of reviewers?

Exactly, i figured wait at least 6 months, i have no need to have the latest and greatest at the cost of a potentially flawed product.

That's just it, Sony didn't hand out any review units until the very last minute when normally reviewers get them weeks in advance. Why? Who knows. But that's why you are seeing reviews that are "ongoing" as sites rush to put up what details they can as they go.

Kotaku got 2 out of 5 bad PS4s.

Is this an issue? No one knows until after tomorrow but this could easily just be as Sony says, isolated incidents.
 
Not being an apologist for Sony, but this is par for the course with releases these days. The first wave of electronic devices usually suffer from manufacturing issues as the kinks haven't been ironed out. Much like software, they don't do a lot of testing before releases now - it's all fixed afterwards.

This is especially true with phones, which are rushed to market to compete. A new model usually has issues until about the second month. I remember my tablet had wifi issues (design flaw), glue issues (design flaw), and a few other things. Same with one of the phones I bought on day one (glue issues).
 
I'm sure a lot of you rolling your eyes about the small number of units borked would be just as calm if it was *your* console that was DOA or bricked. amiright? :rolleyes:

At least there's no reports of overheating, like the rumors. Sony lucked out there.

Wrong. Sega Genesis never had a single dead unit. Every single one is still going strong. Sega CD, on the other hand.... Damn fuse. :) (joking about the Genesis, you are absolutely right).

As it's before launch, it could be 4 out of 1000. Or 4 out of 10,000. Who knows. When the launch comes and there are a ton of bad units or just a tiny number, then I'll say fuck Sony and their POS PS4.... Until then, though, I can't really say much.

Meh, If this was back in 2005 when I was younger I would have been furious because I didnt make much money back then and $400 for a game console was huge for me. I remember getting the 360, I was planning to stay up all night and skip school but 2hrs later RROD I was furious. Now, its not really worth my time to get mad at stuff like this, its just par for course these days. Ill be lining up at gamestop to get my preorders at midnight and Ill be getting my PS4 from amazon no biggie, I'll be doing the same for the Xbox One. A lot of my family members will be happy come christmas.
 
This is why I avoid launch versions of consoles, and some of the PC hardware, from what I read of IGN's issues with the console, when they put pressure on the top of the console, they get a flickering picture of the PS4 main menu, otherwise it's just blank.

QFT, especially on these generation of "anything", everybody has been neck to neck to quickly release their products. I won't be surprised if similar issues comes with the XB1 launch.

This is a hardware site, we bunch a helluva lots of components, do you think that we are not used to sometimes getting a dud?

You know what we do in those cases?

We use the frigging warranty that comes with the product. Sure, we get pissed off, but this happens. Always.

Usually it is way worse, statistically wise.
