Saying hardcore is just redundant there. Everyone knows midgets or clown porn separately is hardcore, combining them together is just that much more hardcore :D

if it works as promised, thats actually pretty cool and I might have to take back some of the mean things I've said about 3d tvs

Range Rover does this in their cars(not that I can come close to affording one). But it's so the driver can view the navigation, and the passenger can watch a movie at the same time... pretty neat. Although you don't have to wear 3d glasses for this effect, but I'd imagine in a car it's designed around the principal that you're sitting at a specific angle.

Either way, solving split screen would be pretty awesome.

Freaking sweet! I've been wanting dual monitor support for same console multiplayer forever but this in some ways this is even better.

I remember seeing that on Top Gear.

Looks really cool. Still what about audio?

Interesting idea but at the $499 price range I'm expecting it'll have pretty poor picture quality compared to a regular full size 3D TV set. However gotta give them props for sticking to there guns with 3D , they've found a solution to the huge cost of playing in 3D and the 3D glasses for this thing will only be $69 which compared to $180 for Panasonic 3D glasses for instance is a huge drop in price.

Sony really blew me away in this E3 , I wasn't expecting that. If I wasn't soured to the whole lacking sense of security they employed on there network to prevent attacks I would even consider buying a PS3 again. But its a step in the right direction.

It's only 24" though. How much do regular 24" 1080p monitors go for in the US/UK?

The same way it's handled in split-screen...?

Probably, I have trouble in Halo: reach as sound is sent for both players so I hear his explosions and gunfire like it's mine.

You could designate a left right system where player 1 audio is sent to the left side speakers and player 2 audio is sent to the right speakers. I wonder how that would work....

The 24inch has 240hz and comes with the 3d glasses and Resistance 3! Not bad for 500 bucks. I just wonder how could the quality will be.

How will audio be handled though?

Left/Right? Same as any other game?

This is pretty cool stuff Sony showed off. Engadget has a hands on with the monitor. Hopefully they improve the design before its release. I don't think I could find myself buying one. Not ready for the 3D wave yet.

EDIT: Ignore me! I thought this was a hardware feature of the tv they just announced.

There are 2 consoles hooked up to the TV though. I guess there should be a couple options:

A) Only machine 1 or machine 2 sound in stereo
B) Machine 1 remixed to mono on left speaker, machine 2 remixed to mono on right speaker
C) Machine 1 and Machine 2 mixed and both playing simultaneously in stereo (worst option imo)

Hopefully the thing has 2 headphone jacks.

Huh? Only 1 console is hooked up.

They could put headphones on their glasses that they provide. This seems like it could be one advantage of the Wii U. The controller has a headphone jack, so hopefully each player should be able to listen to their own part of the game as if they were on their own console... would kind of defeat the purpose of split screening, though. It's more to hang out with your friends than to play with other people. If you just want other people, that's what online is for.

Microsoft did this first allowing each player to have their own screen.

The console will shoot firecrackers at your face.

Seems perfectly feasible. Can't wait.

...But yes, separate audio tracks which are both in stereo would need to be addressed, otherwise you're only dealing with part of the problem of split-screen gaming. How many times have I played split-screen and heard something quite threatening, and then say "is that near you or me?".

I guess someone with no glasses will see the top image while wearing the glasses, you will perceive only the screen your playing and not player #2

I have no idea what I am supposed to be seeing here...:(

2 people can play on the same TV. While wearing the glasses each will see their own perspective (as if they were playing on separate TVs/consoles).

after an hour of those glasses, player one and two will see the same thing, coloured spots and a splitting headache.

You can also get a 2nd PS3 and a 24" 1080p monitor cheaper.

I can get a xbox, wii, and another two 1080p monitors, probably. Round out the ol' collection :p

Of course, if I was running around with three monitors, I'd be castrated

Fair enough, but that technology is still years away from mass availability.

Cheaper in what sense? Most people who'd be interested in this feature would be using a large 3D-capable HDTV. Getting two PS3s and two 1080p monitors wouldn't allow you to play single-player games in 3D, and it would provide a completely different experience from sitting on your couch playing games on a big screen.

Not if you use a passive 3DTV. And if you have 2 players receiving monoscopic content you won't have any of the problems associated with stereoscopic viewing.

Both images are on the screen at the same time, each player only sees one of the two images. This is different than an active shutter system which rapidly alternates between displaying left and right images, only displaying one at a time, which causes eyestrain/headaches/etc. Even if sony's monitor is active shutter (I don't know why on earth they would do that but based on the price of the glasses, $69, I would have to assume that it is indeed active shutter) you can still do this with any passive 3DTV and avoid the typical problems associated with stereoscopic displays.
