Anybody know what card that is? It definatly is not a 6800GT. No way passive cooling coudl handle it for one. Also, look at the PCB. It looks totalyl different. No power connector either. Also, the shrink wrap job sucks, its definatly been rewrapped. I feel bad for the sucker who paid $300 for a 3 year old card. Anyone know waht this thing even is?

EDIT: Also notice the AGP thing.....thats AGP 2x or 4x. Correct me if I am wrong, but 8x only has 1 opening, not 2. The one thing thats throwing me off is that backplate. He would have had to get it off another card. Cant be a 6800U because of dual DVI, adn cant be x850 because that has ovals and not circles for the exhaust. The only other dual cooling card with exhaust out the back of the case is a FX5800. What did the backplate for those look like?

From what I gather by looking at the buyer's feedback, he hasn't payed. I hate it when people try and screw you over ebay.

Nice call. Can't believe someone would repackage a card like that and somehow get away with it.
 
Well i reported this to ebay fraud, but thats just not going to due. I am filing a report with the IFCC. Hopefully this scammer will get what he deserves.
 
Well, it's certainly not impossible. But it would have to be MUCH larger than that. Probably like a heatpipe tower or something.
 
I'm guessing the seller didnt intentionally do it, but from what he sells I would guess he sells refurbs/customer returns that make it back to the distributors and are sold in lots.

I would guess some customer went into a place like BestBuy, bought the card and then returned the Fire GL2. The store probably couldnt get it to work, and probably sent it back to the distributors.

I am not sure about that. You woudl think that once it got into the hands of the distributor, they would be smart enough to know that isnt the right card. Best Buy shoudl know that, but some of them arent very smart.
 
I must be the only one that thinks this is funny (since its so obviously not a 6800GT)
 
And, you guys do realize that auctiondropper merely sells stuff for other people, right? They can't possibly examine the veracity of every single item, especially things like this. Calling them a scammer is wrong. Calling them slightly irresponsible... that would be more like it.

i think it's quite amusing too. though you have a point. they got themselves partially covered by saying that they didn't get to test it due to equipment requirements.
even so... you should be aware that a 6800gt DOES NOT look like that. :D

Say what? I contacted the guy, he already paid and the card shipped. I pretty much told him to not even touch the thing till he can get in touch with the seller and get a refund, and if he cant then file with the appropriate athorities. If he needs to take action, best to have it untampered with.

They are responsible for what they sell on eBay. If eBay or the Fed's go after someone its going to be them, not who they were selling it for....

Hopefully for both of them, it doesnt end up like that. I told the buyer that the seller appears to deal in refurbs, so they themselves may not have known. Hopefully they will fess up to there mistake and give him a refund, but if not I gave him pleanty of places to turn to.
 
What's really sad is that there where 34 bids made on this item. How many people fell for that crap! And it was also listed for 7days, so even if you did place a bid, that person had enough time to research and get out of it ASAP. Some people never learn.
 
Well I talked to the winner, auctiondrop did give him a refund. Its to bad he has to go thru the hassle of shipping it back, and there is no way hes gunna find another GT for $300, but I guess its just a tough learned lesson that he should research what hes bidding on. Atleast he got his money back.

Most people cannot tell one videocard from the next, do you honestly think the average bestbuy employee or reseller would have any idea what a 6800GT looks like? They only people who can tell videocards apart are computer hardware enthusiasts. Im sure people buy videocards at BB or CC and put radeon 7000's or whatever in the boxes and return them. Its easily done, since ive returned cards to bestbuy before and they dont check anything out. Once I even bought a card a BB (BFG6800) which was supposed to be new, and it came with no CD's and the card was totally broken.

Actually I bought my BFG 6800GT for $300 of of the FS/FT board here. Its been working beautifully!
