Sid Meier's Civilization VII

Civ 7 is terrible and not a civ game. The UI and mechanics is cumbersome. I wouldn't play it if I got it for free.

That they didn't have the modern era on launch surprises me. I didn't remember reading that on launch. At least it will be free but this is another game that it pays to wait 1-2 years minimum just for all the dlc.

I've put about 5 hours into it now just to get to the first age (more than civ6). I started as Charlemagne and the Normans. I could choose to be Spain or stay as the Normans, I stayed. The plague crisis event that had been annoying me for 20 turns went away conveniently. I don't like that it starts the turn counter over after the loading screen finishes and you start the new era. All units updating automatically is nice. I don't like many of your special resources swapping to something new. My llamas disappeared and I gained spices or something.

Slow gameplay overall. As far as I know there are only 4-5 civs plus the city states. One civ died I think to another civ or a city state. One or more AI is alone on half the world. The UI does not make it easy to figure out how to run things. It is fine for surface level playing but later on it gets harder to find some screens easily or tell who/what does what. The diplomacy is not that interesting but not horrible.

I do prefer Civ7's graphics/art style over Civ6. That might be the only real positive besides a week long demo. It does make me want to go back to Civ5. Maybe I should just finally try Gal Civ4 and Beyond Earth. Nothing has yet to replace Civ4 for me, except maybe Sins Rebellion and Sins2 but those aren't 4x games but hybrids.

My wife and I have been playing the free week and have been enjoying it. We just got to our first game to the Exploration age and a second round of exploration and settling is pretty fun.

There's still a lot I'd like to change back. Is there any way to prevent the leader/civ mishmash? Having Catherine the Great of Rome and Augustus of the Khmer is retarded.
