Show Your LCD(s) setups!!!

its the Onyx from Office Depot. I had the same desk when I had the room for it and it was a dust and fingerprint magnet.. I wiped it down about once a week to get rid of smudges and dust.

I have the glass desk too. All you need is a little Windex.
It's cheap and has lots of surface to work with. It also has plenty of leg room. I even attached the PC stand on the outside of the desk.

GeekTechnica, I also have the same keyboard and mouse (looks like a G7, although the charger is throwing me off), although I put it on top because I have a 2nd keyboard in the tray, and neither the G7+mousepad nor the LCD fit in the tray.

Wasted 5.1 makes me gag.

Yeah but this is not so bad. If he moved the front left and right to be tight to the sides of the monitor it would enhance the separation of the back channels. I had a similar setup for a long time and it worked quite well.

Yup. Onyx from Office Depot, $139 which to me is an amazing deal. Yeah it does attract a LOT of dust. Fingerprints and smudges aren't so bad as I don't really have to touch the surface too often. I do get the occasional cat pawprint (they like to stand on the desk and chase their reflection below them.) But for the dust I keep one of those Swiffer dusters in the drawer here, takes care of the dust in just a few seconds.

I'm starting to see a lot of those onyx matrix desk pop up. They are in deed nice. If you find coupons and wait for the deals, you can get that desk and hutch for under $140 otd from officedepot (in store pickup).

Yes, it is best to clean it every week, but I only do it every other week. Depends if you have carpet or if your room is just dusty too.

Those speaker look nice naked and I do understand that not everyone can have true 5.1 setup.

This is my old dual 19" setup. The 40" xbr2 was connected through component as well (although I didn't like that when I used it I'd lose a 19)... The 19s are gone and so is the xbr2. I'll post an update soon...

My Pioneer stereo supports a mode called "5 Stereo". Think of it as a quadraphonic stereo with a center channel in the mix.

It's not as weird as you'd think.

Also from where I placed the tweeter ends of the speakers the sound hits me kind of like this:

stereo_top.bmp

Quadraphonic stereo is an oxymoron. Quadraphonic = speakers are placed in the four corners of a square with the listener in the middle.

I would be pretty surprised if Pioneer has a mode that is designed for you to have five speakers sitting in front of you.

I would be pretty surprised if your setup didn't sound like crap, also:
1. The tweeters of your main speakers are apparently aimed at your ass crack. Not what I'd call optimal.
2. The rest of the tweeters aren't at ear level either. Not good.
3. Stereo music should be played from 2 speakers. That's what stereo means, it's designed to be played through 2 speakers.
4. Five speakers in front of you and none behind you = bad.
5. The bookshelves are an inch away from the center = no separation and even worse imaging (if the fact that you're using 5 speakers with two aimed at your anus hasn't already maximized the crappiness).

Ditch the floor standers and get some bookshelves and position them the way a 5.1 system is supposed to be.

My old NEC 1740CX on my old socket 939 pc, LG 245w I just got on my newer system, and my Dell 2407wfp a03 on my powermac. Prob going to get another desk, small one and put my old computer in my bedroom as things are crowded here. As you can see I had no intention of treating my old pc as just an old pc :D

Chill bro... Jeez. It sounds fine TO ME so lay off. I already stated I don't have a better place to put them and I'm not just going to ditch the KLH towers just cause they are not in an optimal position. My whole point with my diagram was that it's not terrible and that it for the most part, works.

Finally finished my setup.

Sniperchicken, i gotta ask u, What desk do u have that Westy sitting on? i just got one and am looking for a desk. That thing is lookin nice.

Hi. This looks like a good thread to put my question to. I am sure one of you techies will have an answer.

I had a PC built with Intel Core 2 Quad-Core Q6600 (2.4 GHz, 1066MHz, 8MB Cache) processor with 4GB RAM. The card is a Matrox QID LP PCIe which supports up to four monitors with resolutions up to 1600 x 1200 each. I am using Vista Business (32 Bit). I want to connect four 37" LCD screens to the system. These screens are LCD TV's made by LG model no. 37LC55 supporting resolutions up to 1366 x 768. I only want to use 1024 x 768. I am attaching these diplays using DVI (on the PC) to HDMI (on the TV) cables, 5 meters long each. The displays also have a VGA connection. The Matrox card comes with four DVI-D outputs but also has the VGA adaptors.

The problem I am having is that the signal is dropping most of the times as early as the startup of Windows. If I attach more than one monitor the system does not even start. Any ideas where the problem is? Is it the type of connection, length of the cables or is there a problem with the card? Matrox say that the have not tested the DVI to HDMI cables. I am quite surprised as this is probably quite a popular combinition as most PC's have the DVI and almost all LCD TV's come with HDMI. They also say that DVI-DVI should be no more than eight feet if used and the VGA may give better results but still has the same cable length restriction.

The problem is that I need the 5m length as I'll be placing the PC away from the monitors in a commercial premises.

Any ideas??

It's a Bush Furniture "Visions" MM69500 desk, but I purchased it back in 2003. It looks as though it's going to be hard to find.

No, it's not a good thread to post your question in. This thread is for people posting or commenting on pictures of LCD setups. If you have a question, make a new thread in the appropriate section. Judging by your problem, the Displays forum is probably the best place.

Thats convenient, considering they probably need gas powered generators to power all that stuff :p

To be fair, that desk is designed for 3 people, so divide by 3 for a per person LCD count. And we do make our own electricity. And that is not me in the pic.
