I was looking to get some Dual Gigabit NIC's for my ESXi hosts and iSCSI storage server and been trying to do the Make Offer on ebay for some good deals. I was getting rejected until I came across this seller http://www.ebay.com/itm/180782992292?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

I did a Make Offer for 3 X $30 and got an automatic rejection than i tried again with 3 X $36 and it went through.

Not too bad for these dual port nics.

I am going to be setting up dual port iSCSI SAN VLAN, Management Network and VM/Lab Network for my vSphere and netwrking lab. My X8SIL-F-O's that I use for my ESXi hosts already have two NIC ports which will be the Management and VM/lab network.

hopefully he doesn't look around on the web and figure out who let the cat out of the bag on this deal :D

BTW how well would these nics do on a workstation or homebrew router?

Thanks for the heads-up, scored 2 myself. $35 was no-go; $36 was accepted.

Nice deal! I picked up a PCI version (dual port Intel Gb NIC) for 25 cents as the Goodwill. Some amazing deals to be had.

This is good, so if the guy decides not to ship them and cancel the orders we can raise some hell!

They're non-TOE so don't expect the most stellar performance using them as storage NICs.

I just picked up two myself for 36, hell of a deal!

Hopefully these are both functional when they arrive, I need to replace the 32b PCI realtek's I have in my low-budget whitebox ESX and NAS machines.

Yeah going with the Dell OEM version is the best thing you can do. So many people buying Intel named units paying $140 when they can buy the Dell named part @ 40.

I have one in my server, they're great NICs

This logic does not fully offload the stack completely; but yes TOE is implemented. It only supports segmentation and checksum offloading, basic RSS with no multiple queues, and limited vector MSI and MSI-X support.

To note, these are end of life, but does not mean that they are not any good. If a person wants a better adapter (newer), you will want the CT (http://www.intel.com/content/www/us...work-adapters/gigabit-ct-desktop-adapter.html)

If you note in my previous statement I said: "To note, these are end of life, but does not mean that they are not any good." Then I proceed to mention better (newer) in the last statement. Apparently, this was not read or understood because I never said what you concluded to comprehend from my post.

To note Intel's drivers, if important, are not updated anymore for these adapter due to them being end of life. In other words this core logic is not supported anymore.

I see no dual port CT adapter. You must mean the PT adapters, those are the dual port server nics that these were replaced with. Regardless these adapters show in Win2K8 as 1KBT-PT part #'s, so either the drivers are screwed up, or someone is bluffing us.

I did not mean the PT. The CT is a desktop and entry level server NIC. If you need dual ports and do not want to use dual NICs then it is going to be way more expensive. That would be the ET's. Very nice VT support and offloading features, including IPSec; but will cost a person around $150 for one dual port NIC. You will also need a x4 slot.

The driver that is included within the Windows OS and *nix kernels are still there, of course. The drivers that are downloaded will contain the last compiled driver done for that OS. But there are no updates for it anymore. In other words no more support from Intel for issues, drivers, and possibly RMA's.

Like Gamer said he got a good deal. The only negative is EOL, that is really it. The features of the NIC are still modern and good.

EDIT: Weird I double checked (http://www.intel.com/support/network/sb/cs-026524.htm) and saw that the PT dual adapter was not EOL. I specifically remember the EOL for all the PT adapter, but apparently I am wrong. Only the desktop and quad port are EOL. Even ark does not mention EOL for the dual.

These are PCIe x1 cards. Will fit in any of them because of such.

Of course they are and you also were able to procure them for a excellent price :)!

These cards are pcie 4x. meaning they will need 4x or bigger to fit/work.

From the full specs that AMD_Gamer posted earlier in the thread:

He's probably not happy with you advertising your "win" here and his getting god-knows-how-many more "best offer" hits at your price...

As an active eBay seller and buyer I can tell you this: other than hitting his reputation slightly, there is nothing you can really do. "Out of Stock" is one of the automatic exits from the Buyer Protection Plan that eBay gives their sellers. Kinda sucks.

Mostly what you can do is this: live and learn from it. Don't brag about your shopping "victory" until you've got the items in hand, or at least have a tracking number from the seller and you've confirmed the carrier has received the box.

Keep looking... I've seen those for around that price before. I paid $50/each for my 3...but saw them for less the week before I ordered.

Can you give us any input on the TOE support and whether it really matters for our labs?

As said above they don't do everything..they support TSO (can see that with esxcfg-vmknic -l) but if you want full offload..like for iSCSI...these aren't it. But they'll do just fine in a lab.
