Makes you wonder how that voltage was determined automatically when the max programmable VID is 1.52V. Sounds like it's extrapolating.

Tested yesterday for 12 hours prime stable. I will be turning on HT too. All this on a $100 MSI mobo![]()

So I tried the unvolting of the CPU PLL and it looks to have increased stability. Anyone else tried this? or know why this would be the case?
Are these processors really that delicate? What if you plan on encoding an HD video that takes 10 -12 hours would that eventually degrade the processor since X264 can put quite a load on the CPU? If so what's the point of these things?
at clocks 5.0 and above using programs like prine and linx have shown dergration ..
These chips cant take the abuse the old one did ... encoding and other dailys no problem as they dont push the core to 100 percent usage .. ill do most 20 linx sessions or 4 hour primes

Stop flaming. If someone wants to be careful with their chips, instead of burning them out at 1.5v with 12 hour prime or LinX runs, then LET them. It's not your money. It's theirs. If you don't like it, paypal them some cash for a spare chip and THEN you can tell them to do what you want with the chip....
I really don't care what others do with their gear. I think anyone who runs Prime or any other bench for 12 hours gets what they deserve and obviously has no clue.

You mean PLL overvoltage? It's known to allow higher multipliers, at the cost of S3 sleep (at least for now).
I read through the thread and the OP came back and said his cpu turned out to be just fine after all. I can tell you from my limited experience thus far with this platform that most problems being reported are in fact bios related. From my buds at HWBot they report much the same across the board be it Asus, Gigabyte or whatever.
Overclocking is a gamble no matter how you look at it. Safe and overclocking do not really belong in the same sentence, but you suspected this all along in the back of your mind didnt you?![]()
He probably means undervolting. I've seen some posts that indicate that UNDERvolting the PLL can increase stability and lower temps.
Hell, I'm undervolting my PLL. I ended up with 4.8 @ 1.325v.
Did it help with the temps?
A little bit. I haven't undervolted it by much, (1.66875v compared to the usual 1.7) so I got a pretty minor drop. About 5 degrees. Your mileage may vary.

I wouldn't call 5C a minor drop. That's a pretty big difference.
What would be a safe maximum temperature for the 2500k and 2600k when overclocking?
