=S. 6800GS Please

http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/article.html?art=ODgyLCwsaGVudGh1c2lhc3Q=

Let's at least use our own reviews where it shows real world fps doing and not let's see what happens when we run it with everything/nothing. Look how in BF2 you can run it at Full at 1280x1024? I have a 17" LCD so I run everything at 1280x1024. I have BF2 at 1280x1024 with everything full and 8sxAA forced because it runs so silky smooth lol. I have a 3200+@2.55 but can goto 2.7.

What video card do you have?

(About FEAR) With my overclock I can do 1280x960, maximum settings all around, high physics, 2xAA, and 2xAF and remain playable... at stock it lags a little too much for AA. FEAR is very capable on this card.

Notice the benchmarks in Hardocp the above poster posted... The GS is running @ medium settings and pulling 45fps @ 1024x768 2xAA 8xAF...

Techreport benchmarks show 35.9fps average and dips to 13 at lowest part of the game at max settings @ 1280x960...

So which is it? Either you're not playing at max settings most likely or Hardocp and Techreport is giving us false information...

Or you havn't tried the card out for yourself and your relying on other peoples asumptions where they want to get the most out of their system and it's a system they they know so they are willing to push it alot further. I should buy FEAR.

I don't like to say it, but the GS the [H] used must have sucked, since at 1024x768, 2xFSAA 8xAF, and the only options that arent on max for me are Volumetric light density (medium) and sounds (medium), I get a min of 35, max of 133 average of 58. <---Just run, I have a screenshot if you so wish. I wish i was using those older nVidia drivers, gave me higher FPS =( 84.25 I think is what give me the best FPS..

Edit: Also just ran it at 1280x960, same settings as above, Min was 25, Avg was 41, Max was 90..

I forgot to mention no soft shadows were used. Running @ 1280x960 with max, no SS, and 2xaa and 2xaf is really pushing it. It averaged the stress test @ at like 28fps. I'd have to reload the game to check. I find benchmarks to be approximate and usually on the harsh side... gameplay feels better than what benchmarks say.

I know the GS isn't that great of a card so (minus 4 pipes and one vertex shader from the GT)... I'm not inflating its abilities.

hey marvalous, do you have something against a 6800GS? something happen to an nvidia card that made you hate them or something? You seem so anti-6800GS that it's incredibly stupid. everyone here has pointed out that you have made points that are invalid. Please stop talking about how the 6800GS is inferior. You're not completely right about the 6800GS's performance and I sure as hell doubt you've ever used one.

Nothing wrong with the card... It was a good card for cheap when it came out about a year ago.. But there are cards out there now that cost $150 or less and beat the GS into pulp...

Why are my points invalid? All the benchmarks look valid to me from a respectable sites like Hardocp and Techreport...

yea, the ranges for benchmarks on the GS are incredibly crazy. 5000-6000 depending on the card manufacturer (for 3dmark 05). Just that the guys here have pulled more performance than what you've been stating

btw, what kind of comptuer do you have? Can you list your specs? I"m just curious =D.

I agree, let's hear them.

CPU has an impact on 3dmark...

my specs?

486 33 mhz
4 meg memory
14" VGA monitor with 256k memory on my Cirrus card

I dual boot linux and windows 3.1...

Not good as your computer but it makes me happy...

be serious. If you don't have anything that's worth mentioning then I think you shouldn't be talking shit about other parts.

Like I said before... benches are useful guides but not always consistant with real experience.

I could not change any settings I ran on FEAR or Oblivion when I dropped in a 7600gt in for like 2 days ($189 @ M.C.- I was curious and ended up returning it). Even oc'ed to like 640/1700 - the 7600gt didn't perform any differently than my GS.

Now benchmarks definitely say otherwise, but not on MY particular system.

Oh really..

I think I know about computer technology enough to talk about it..

I have played with Geforce 6 series cards before if my computer parts interest you that much...

a 6800GS? if you don't, i don't think you can make an accurate comparison with the X800 cards. I've played with both an X800 and a 6800GS..... 6800GS all hands down. Never played with an X800GTO2 or an X850XT//X850XT PE, so i'm not saying they can't hit 6k or that they're better. I just like the 6800GS. btw,the 6 series also includes the 6200...... 6200 is also better than a 6800GS? =O

The 6800GS is not a GT. It is alot different and uses a 7800 board, I think. It also runs cooler and uses less power...

Try to stay on topic. This is about video cards, not OC'd intel CPU's >_> Nice OC though :D

We all know 6800GS is slower than X850XT. The benchmarks from Hardocp or any of the review sites will tell you that.

A x800 is what 12 pipes @ 392 mhz and 700mhz memory with only 128megs of ram? That is not even in the same class as 6800GS that is clocked 425mhz and 1000mhz on the memory with 256meg memory. Just like the GS is not even in the same class as x850XT 16 piped 520/1120.

6800GS is more comparable to the XL or unlocked GTO2 that is clocked @ 400/980... Even then the only game that really edges out is Doom and get beaten in almost everything else.

Look at the benchmarks:

http://www.techpowerup.com/printreview.php?id=/NVIDIA/6800gs - for the 6800GS

http://www.elitebastards.com/page.php?pageid=9452&head=1&comments=1 - X850XT 3dmark

http://www.bjorn3d.com/read_pf.php?cID=782 - another to confirm X850XT 3dmark score.

Look. From what I can see, the X850XT is 100 points (generally) faster than the 6800GS. BUT, we take into the overclocks of both (which are the same since my friend clocked his as high as I've seen X850XTs clock in terms of added mhz). Then add the modability of the card. THe 6800GS is EASY to volt mod compared to the X800 Series. All it takes is a bios tweak. I've seen it. An X800 Requires you to deal with the hardware and a solder pen. A lot harder to volt mod. 6800GS scores around 8100 on 3dmark 05 with Volt mod. X850XT with volt mod scores around 8010. I think the 6800GS would be a better card.

I could argue now that 3Dmark mean absolutely ZIP in real games...
And that it would depend on what games you game, that should be the deciding factor...not useless synthetic numbers...

Terra - Fraps for the win! :D

yea, that's very true. I was using that as a general statement of how fast the card is.I know synthetic benchmarks mean almost nothing in gaming. For example, the X1600XT scores higher marks than a 6800GS, but does horrible at gaming. But i'm using this as a general show of performance. What marvelous was saying was that the X850XT would kill a 6800GS. I'm showing that they're about the same at stock.

Specs only show so much. What about the performance? I don't know why the 6800GS is clocked slower and has 4 less pipes, but it runs just as fast as a 16 pipe card clocked at higher speeds

btw: Marvelous, please list your real specs. we want to see what you're running.

The 12 pipe 6800GS(450Mhz) is clocked faster than the 16 piped 6800GT(350Mhz) but they preform par on par.
What marvelous has gotten in wrng is the amount of work a pipeline can do.
The pipes of the 6800 are more effecient clock for clock than the X800 pipes...

Terra - And the x800 and 6800GS are in the same "class" #Marvelous..stop the FUD, please..

My specs are

3200+@2.7@1.44V
6800GS 509/1337
Asus A8N-SLI Vanilla
Enermax 535W Whisper II
160gb WD IDE133 HDD
Samsung 713N LCD

That's about it for me :)

nice comp. Let's see marvelous's though since he sounds as though he's got a great system along with all the stuff he's talkin about with the X800s and 6800s

wake up and smell the brand new electronics (I love the smell of brand new electronics by the way)... x850xt is 20-30% or more faster than a 6800GS in slmost all games.

Yes efficient when there's about 1000mtexels involved... Not when the 850xt has 3220 more Mtexels than the GS... That's what more than a third more fill rate more memory bandwidth for the GS to keep up.

By the way 6800GS is clocked 425mhz

Can you at least say you won't post your system specs? You double post and evade the question :p

Thanks :D I was a bit worried that it wasn't a great computer but it runs well, except for the BSOD's which are most likely the ram :(

i'm sure you haven't smelled new electronics in a couple of years huh? 6800GS came AFTER the X850 cards, and EVEN AFTER the 6800Ultra and 6800GTs...... i think you need to do more research

and yes, please list your specs or atleast tell us your too embarassed to show it

Actually I have but what business is it of yours? I think you need to read some articles.. This whole thread has noobie written all over it.. I bought a new computer 7months ago... You want to see benchmarks... I keep pointing to you but you don't want to hear it...
