=S. 6800GS Please

I've only got 129, or I would have picked up a refurb 6800GS on newegg for 150 =(. Anyway, so it's guaranteed that I get 16 pipes on the GTO2 VIVO? O, and one more thing, there's a VIVO and a VIVOL version of the card. what's the difference between both (they're both Sapphire X800GTO2s, but one's got VIVO and the other's got VIVOL writtin at the end of it's name)

Wrong. The 6800GS is on par and even better than 6800GTs, why do you think Nvidia redesigned them and then released them pretty recently? "6800GT" on 12 pipelines. Also it performs even better when you overclock the GS.

Pretty much on par but the GT still edges out the GS by a little margin.... I'm sure GT performs bettter if you overclock it too..

Same mem bandwidth.. Lower fill rate...

Nope...6800 GS are monster OCers. With volt mods they kick ass even more.

Look what a 6800 GS can do with a volt mod. (To the guy who said u need vmod to get 6k on the GS: Your misinformed)

NO DIFFERENCE at all; if it were retail, i believe L signifies OEM. I got just the VIVO one, and whoop dee doo, i got lucky and got all the accessories even though they say they're not included. Choose which ever and take the chance :) just get the VIVO one.

I'm talking about @ stock....

Most people do not volt mod... Only the minority... I've seen 6800GT volt modded as well... They are both capable of modding...

Typical 6800GT can overclock to ultra speeds or little more... Which is what 6800mtexels....

http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=775634

Your GS overclocked @ 525 x 12 = 6300 Mtexels with newer manufacturing somehow gives you higher memory overclock... @ 1200mhz = 38.4 GB/s

hey, i've got another question. These guys are saying that the X800GTO2 can flash only to X800XT PE speeds, not an X850XT PE. Is that true? or can the X800GTO2 be flashed to X850XT PE? here's the link:

http://www.sapphiretech.com/en/forums/showthread.php?t=1022

It's all the same core... It's just matter of overclock...

Since your x800gto2 had 16 pipes already @ 400/800... Your GTO can easily go 500/900... I do not know for sure how far it goes.. Much better than a 6800GS far as fill rate goes not so on the memory... Even @ 900 mhz on the memory it is plenty since it's 256bit... Just look at 6600GT or 7600GT... They have lower memery bandwidth but they beat other cards with more memory bandwidth because of higher fill rate...

Basically an X850XT is a X800XTPE...

X850XTPE is slight overclock 20mhz on the core 40mhz on the memory...

The most OC I culd get out of my card was 550/1200. I keep it at 500/1100 now... I hadn't considered volt modding.

Im telling you, the 6800 GS is an underestimated card...

If I had to choose... since this guy has PCIx mobo... I would go 850xt all the way for that price range... It will cream a overclocked 6800GS easily whether overclocked or not...

6800GS is PCIe also........ I guess the X800GTO^2 seems good since it's got a 100% success rate and since it's R480 (the other guys were talking about an R430, which would equal an X800XT PE), it should clock to X850XT PE. It's also got 2.0ns RAM instead of 1.6ns RAM, lower lats for RAM on the GTO2 compared to the X850s. plus, it leaves me with enough money to pick up the heatsink

The x850xt's are cheap as shit on Newegg. And the previous poster is right about them being fast... not to mention available (unlike the GS).

Why not just get a 850xt.... It's a sure thing.. A GTO is not...

You said you get artifacts @ 980mhz memory... I don't care how much air cooling you put on it... It will not get 1120mhz like x850xt...

okay, i sent my X800GTO back to newegg. i think something was seriously wrong with that card from the start, as the temps were 50C idle and somewhere in the 80s full (with an X850 cooler? didn't make sense). X800GTO^2s, from what I've heard, come standard with R480 cores and 16 pipes (it's the VIVO version)

Wow, there seems to be some anti 6800 GSness around here. lol. If you look through the thread, I myself have recommended the X850XT.. (This I only did because the 850xt is now cheap). But picking bettween the 2, I would take the GS. It can OC higher and with voltmod it should beat an X850XT PE voltmoded. Also the 6800 GSs can changes voltages with simple bios flashs. Voltmods on X850XTs are pretty hard to do. Without voltmods, both of them overclocked, the 6800 GS still wont get creamed or whatever you were saying.. it would be close.

yea, cupholder's right. I've seen some of the benchmarks and they are pretty close. OC almost about the same, although the R430/423/480 runs hotter, with an aftermarket cooler, it can OC just as far.

Forgot to mention, the GS also has SM3 :), a nice little addition. N H O what do you get on 3dmark 06 at those speeds?

As of 2004, these were the games coming out with SM3

FarCry (v1.2)
Driver 3
Grafan
Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-Earth
Madden NFL 2005
Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault
Painkiller: Battle Out of Hell
Splinter Cell 3
STALKER: Shadows of Chernobyl
Tiger Woods 2005
Vampire: Bloodlines

Current & Upcoming Games with OpenEXR HDR Lighting Support
--
FarCry (v1.3)

Current & Upcoming Games with UltraShadow II support
--
Doom3.

There are many more now, including AOE3, Crysis etc. In AOE3, there is a huge difference bettween SM2 and 3. Thats part of the reason I upgraded to a 6 series from the 9800 pro.

Yeah my original overclock was with a Silencer, but my card started forcing random reboots or giving me black screens on cold start.... I use a vf900 now, which is dead sexy and work very well (37C idle, 50-55C load).

About SM 3.0, I personally like HDR, and though bloom looks nice - I couldn't recommend the x850xt if you care about that... otherwise totally go for the XT. A fast (and cheap) card.

i wish my silencer cooled that well, (i idle at 39*C, load at 60-65ish) but i cant complain b/c the silencer is silent :D

I really like my 6800GS. Which means a lot since it replaced a Radeon 9700pro, which was an excellent card as well.

They are rare, they are quiet, they are cool, they are great. No construction issues like with the 7900GT reference (I'd consider a second generation 7900 when they get all the bugs ironed out.)

And 6800 GS is fast enough to handle all graphics to max including HDR and whatever feature is enabled on 6800GS? Most of the games you mention HDR makes little or no impact... It's really up to eye of the beholder..

Marvelous, on Oblibvion (most graphics intense game right? I know I'm right ;) :D) With my 6800GS I can run it at 1280x1024 with basiclly everything at max except HDR, grass (because I hate the grass, you can't see stuff on the ground when you kill someone :D) and bloom. I have all water on high and 2xAA and all the distance and whatnot. And this runs perfectly smooth. Also, on a side note. My brother has a Leadtek 6800 128mb AGP and he runs it all at full at 1024x768 with a 2.4 P4.

The 6800GS rocks :D Funny how people reviewing Oblivion and the 6800GS said it can only handle 1024x768 with all high lol. Oblivion looks so nice.

This is my experience as well. With bloom tweaked in the .ini file, 2xAA, and 3/4 sliders, some of the shadows disabled - it looks nice and plays decent @ 12x10. Not as bad as benchmarks reveal.

I'm still buying a x1800xt soon.

Hey I'm not saying GS is not a capable card and no way is it slow.... There are cheaper cards like x850xt (HDR not included of course) or midrange 7600gt that can play with maxxed settings...

Lets be honest... You can't play games with maxxed settings with 6800GS... You have to turn some things off... Probably HDR since it takes a mass performance hit... It's a gimmick... Fun to have... To play around with older games that implemented HDR early in the genre...

uh.... you can't play games with max settings? i can play BF2 max with my Vanilla X800 with no lag.... my friend could play BF2 max settings with a 9800Pro. I'm not sure where you're getting the idea that the card can't play games at max settings. Even with HDR, I still believe that it could run at max. Look at half life 2 and counterstrike. Yea, every card takes a performance hit with HDR turned on, but seriously, you don't have to down graphics on everything when you're still pulling like 70FPS with hdr, 4xAA, 16xAF, and full graphics....

i think you should either go buy a GS or see//use one before making assumptions on the card's performance and continually make statements that are false and can be proven false (for example, the 6k 3dmark 05 score on a GS without volt mod). Yea, an X850XT is cheaper, raw power is almost equalling. I agree with that, and it seems like there's no objection from other people, but putting down the 6800GS is like saying that the 9800Pro cannot run any games even at medium settings and no AA. that can be proven wrong.

Who said I was putting down GS? Did you read my comment correctly.... There are 850xt or 7600gt that cost around $150 and will do 1/2 circle around the GS in certain games...

Battlefield 2 is more than a year old with not so advanced graphics even onboard graphics can run... Half life is nearing 2 years after release even with max settings+HDR GS gets around 50fps @ 1024x768.... Try oblivion or Fear or any of the newer FPS shooters that will be releasing soon...

Last time I checked 6800GS can't do HDR+AA+Aniso and get 70FPS... Nor can it do AA+HDR....

3dmark is not a game... It's a tech demo and should be considered so... It's a good way to compare graphics but no way pursuade me or you to buy a card because of it...

You are still underestimating the 6800GS.. I can play FEAR everything maxed with 2xFSAA and errr 8xAF at 1024x768 and it never drops below 35-36, averages at 65.. Now, Oblivion, most things at 3/4, max viewing, 1024x768, HDR, runs fine. Can do 1280x1024 everything max with Bloom+AA. And gee, the only cards that do HDR+AA (afaik) are ATI x1k cards... So you cant really add that into an equation to rag on about the 68GS.. In short, yes, the card does have some serious weakness for high resolution players. But not for those who dont mind or need higher res.
