Hey

So I spent 5 days fiddling around with my Sapphire X800GTO 512Mb GDDR2 card and I'm done with it. The card's ram was underclocked when I received it so I'm sending it back to Newegg. Since they no longer carry my card, I'm expecting a refund of 129 dollars. Do you guys think I could find a 6800GS for that much money. I really want a 6800GS as my friend has received excellent performance with it, but I think Nvidia stopped production and the prices went through the roof =(. I can't spend more than 129, i'm kinda stuck at this price range until I get a summer job (savin for my conroe). Can you guys help me out and show me where I could find one? (I'm not a fan of ebay, but it would be my last resort). If i can't get one for 129, is there a card that's better than an X800GTO for the price?

thanks

Is this AGP or PCI-express x16?

Either way, it will be very difficult to find a 6800GS for $129. They are hard to find, and still cost much more than that.

Which interface are you looking for? For $130 there are a few decent offerings in PCI-express form. You are much more limited in AGP.

[edit]

Looked up your motherboard, looks like you are PCI-express. For a little over your budget, you could pickup a 7600GT, which would give you a little more performance than a 6800GS if I can remember correctly. The main difference is that the 7600GT has 128-bit memory. They both have 12 pipelines. Are you firm on the $130 mark?

hmm.... X800GTO is what I'm looking at, another one to replace this one if newegg doesn't carry my card anymore. But a GS performs better than my card.

My two 6800 GS (GS CO SE)cost me I think $160 each. That's the lowest I've really seen them.

A 7600gs will give you SM 3.0..

At this very moment there is a 256mb Pci-E Sapphire X850 Pro for $99 shipped at newegg in thier refurb'd dept. Grab one fast they will be gone by friday.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102593R

I expect these will be out very very very soon as deals like this usually are.

Heres a link for a refurb'd sapphire X850XT for $134 shipped http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102483R

Refurb'd Sapphire X800GTO2 Vivo $125.50 shipped at newegg : ) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102645R

And a 2nd version of the Sapphire X800GTO2 Vivo for $ 128 shipped http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102646R

Whats the word on Newegg Openbox?? Reliable?

I've personally bought like 5 of thier refurb'd cards and had no problems. And none of the friends I have that bought thier refurb'd cards ever had a problem. Together all of us have prob bought like 15+ cards from thier refurb'd section and not a single problem ( that wasn't our own stupid faults that is ).

Yes, they are reliable, they are recertified by companies like Sapphire and given the go.

Pro can blow. Go find a sapphire x800gto^2 VIVO, as it comes with an x850 XT PE core and 16 pipes unlocked + faster than normal xt pe ram. Or you can just buy the x850 xt. Both are around 130USD.

Did you flash it, and then mess it up?

didn't do anything. the thing is Sapphire sent the card with 16 pipes already unlocked. It was amazing, but then I looked at my RAM frequency, and the frequency was 180mhz below what was advertised. My graphic card was running at 400//800 instead of 400//980, so I felt a drastic performance drop. To show how much I lost, I ran 3dmark 05, and I scored about 4500 with 400//800 and 16pp. Then I did a suicide since my card couldn't take the heat for long, and I ran it 400//1000, and I scored 4900. Drastic performance gap. Those were with omega drivers too. It almost matched my X800 Vanilla, which got 4300 (that plus the fact that I kept getting random crashes).

Anyway, how is hte 7600GS.... is it better than an X800GTO//X800GTO2? Anyway, those refurbs sound pretty good. I might go get one. My parents tell me to stay away from refurbs cause there's gotta be something wrong with them, but if not, that GTO2 sounds kick ass =D If the 7600GS can overclock better than an X800GTO//that X800GTO2, then I'm in for the 7600GS

@ 800 mhz it's still 256 bit... 12 pipe 6800GS will not beat that card...

That card will destroy the 7600GS... Probably 2 folds..

Hmm.. looks like the X850XT Might be the best deal. I don't want to worry about getting a specific core and making sure that the core can unlock pipes. X850XT is only 20 -30 bucks more anyway (refurb). Sounds good. Thanks everyone

i've bought 3 refurbed gto^2s, and they've been perfect so far. Don't be afriad to purchase refurbs; they rock :D

I wouldnt rate a card based only on its pipes. The 7600 GT has only 12 pipes and it rapes all of these cards which are 16 pipes. Iv seen plenty of 6800 GS which scores 6000-6500 oced which is equal to or better than the X800GTO unlocked or even an X850XT PE. Also 4500 for a 16 pipe gto sounds really low...

BTW go for that X850XT. Its a good price and it should last you for a while, or atleast till dx10 cards.

Pipes alone don't make or break performance... My 6800 GS shouldnt get higher FPS/scores than a GT if that was the case..

Yep. Hey, what is the highest OC ur GS does?

cupholder, in order for a 6800gs to reach 6k, you need to volt mod it. In fact, voltmodding a 6800gs will make it beat even a 7800gtx.

6k? I've seen 6800GS's hit around 6600 on 3dmark 05. and yea, 4500 for an X800GTO is pretty bad, but the RAM was GDDR2 and for some reason, sapphire gave it to me clocked at 800mhz instead of the advertised 980, so it's already bein sent back to newegg as we speak. When I get my refund, I'll pick up that X850XT immediately =D.

I wouldn't say rape... 7600GT has higher clock than older 16 pipe cards... Better memory controllers, etc...

Only reason 6800GS might score higher because it has sm 3.0... In a real game benchmark it will not beat that card you have...

If I were you I would overclock the core more than the memory...

XT clock speed is 520/1120.... You should be getting better FPS in higher resolutions...

no...these are 3Dmark 2005 scores. 05 doesnt even use SM3...

what do you mean? I've sent the X800GTO out cause of that memory problem and it was causing my comp to randomly blue screen. Hmm... yea, the 6800GS and the X850XT look about the same performance. Gaming and everything, atleast from what I've seen against a 6800GT (a little faster than the GS because of the 16 pipes instead of 12).

X850XT is fast as an 6800 ultra or 7600GT if not faster... 6800GT is faster than 6800GS... 6800GT is slower than 6800ultra...

X850XT will cream a 6800GS...

You didn't mention you were getting "Blue Screens" but an underclocked memory on the GTO...

I personally think a X800 card with 16 pipes is more than eduquate on memory bandwidth... If you overclock you will get more substantial results from clocking the core higher....

yea, i was getting random BSODs. it was really weird. I haven't gotten them, I dropped back down to my vanilla X800. the underclocked RAM was messed up. I tried to clock it to 490 and it artifacted like crazy. Core was fine, but could only hit around 440. My X800 Vanilla is hitting 440//800 with 12 pipes. That's pretty bad if that card had 16 pipes and hit 300 more points on 3dmark than my vanilla X800. X800GTOs stock should hit around 5k right?

you dont need to volt mod a 6800gs for it to reach 6k, mine hit 6400

hmm... i was reading about some X800 overclocks and the guy said that he'd need better cooling than the stock X850XT cooler. Do you think it'd be better to get a Sapphire X800GTO2 with an Artic Cooler NV15 or whats it called or get the X850XT? I've still got time to discuss, so I'm just gettin a bunch of questions off before I really finalize. It's 129 for both ideas. The Sapphire X800GTO2 + Artic Cooler Fan http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835186129 <<< that heatsink, or the Sapphire X850XT with only stock fan.

what do you guys think?

I overclocked my gto^2 to 650 with a silencer... and my xt went to 690 as well, under water

hmm.... should i get the GTO2, flash it to X850XT PE and get that extra cooler? that's really my question

do it, your core on the gto^2 is gonna start up at 400ish, but just kick that baby up to 600 you won't have a problem, with the stock cooler. want even more performance? get a aftermarket cooler, and you'll be able to take it even higher. want the most out of your card? volt mod it.

My Galaxy 256mb 6800GS is OC'd at 509/1207. But before I have run it stable at 500/1336. It was changed because new drivers re-set the OC'ing.

Great card! Oblivion at 1280x1024 with most things on high with 2xAA :D It looks sweet :)

hmm.. do you have one? I'm getting the X800GTO2 Refurb, so what are the success rates for unlocking the pipes (without actually taking a solder pen to it). I'm afraid maybe one of these guys couldn't unlock it and sent it back. I don't want to send back another card becuase it was faulty. Btw, yea, i'm going with the artic silencer thing along with the X800GTO2 if i go this path instead of the X850XT.

look at the links on the first page that the other guy posted; you're looking for the xgto^2 with dual dvi (the vivo version; it'll say that in the item description) Second of all, pipes can only be unlocked with software. The special thing about this card is that Sapphire FACTORY UNLOCKS all the vivo cards to 16 pipes. Nothing more, nothing less. There is no question about it as even Sapphire has admitted that they have unlocked them all.

My gs hits 6k very easily without any volt mod, no clue where you got that idea from.

Wrong. The 6800GS is on par and even better than 6800GTs, why do you think Nvidia redesigned them and then released them pretty recently? "6800GT" on 12 pipelines. Also it performs even better when you overclock the GS.

are you looking for this?

XFX PVT42GUAD7 Geforce 6800GS 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card

?

your in luck i just bought a X1800XT

willing to sell for $180 never overclocked
