Our longtime Mafia liaison Dave "the Clever" Altavilla, has his hands all over Alienware's new Threadripper system, the Area 51 Threadripper Edition. Being a "preview," it is light on benchmarks overall, but there are some there to take a gander at. Also it is good to hear that its AIO is up to the task! Once lapped, ours is looking a lot better.

Again, reports of the Alienware Area-51's AIO cooling system not being up to the task of chilling Threadripper 1950X are totally unfounded as far as we're concerned. In fact, we're used to seeing Intel's Skylake-X processors operate about in this range with standard single-fan AIO coolers. The Area-51's radiator is very thick and though it's also only a single fan setup, the surface area of the rad is deceivingly larger than it looks. We're still testing, but we're pretty confident in the Alienware Area-51's cooling system and the ability for standard off-the-shelf AIO coolers to keep a beastly Ryzen Threadripper CPU in check, thermally.

Seems like a good system, and Threadripper seems like the real deal when it comes to catching Intel with its pants down price/performance.

In true Alienware fashion though, it looks like form over functionality reigns supreme again. You'd think at that price there would be a much better cooling solution.

This is the only case from Alienware I think looks cool. Still wouldn't get it though.

The mounting bracket mod used in the Alienware and the upcoming one from Cooler Master look to be the way forward for adapting existing coldplates. Just wait till you see waterblocks that cover the whole Threadripper heat spreader.

That Area 51 case is either gigantic or that Dave guy is 3'9". It looks like one of those $10k clamshell speakers I used to covet at the high-end home theater shop in 1997.

Glad to see AMD is squarely back in the high-end CPU space. Even if it performs like a 16-core 1800x, it's going to be a helluva chip.

Those comments about the cooling seem to be about 180 degrees opposite of what Linus said in his preview video. So not really sure what to believe at this point. o_O

Pretty sure they are responding to Linus's comments with that blurb above as I think he was the first Alienware reveal, cooling doesn't look adequate to me, either, this is AMD.
