Running cold water

My water bill next yr is paid for in rent. could i hook up the waterblock for Proccy and GPU to the sink and run cold water constantly in a one way fashion into proccy then GPU and finally out of GPU waterblock into sink drain. Would this be effective?

Even if it's paid for, please don't. Also, you and your loop will be very unhappy a few weeks down the road due to crap in the water.

I imagine your landlord might try and ask you why you're using so much water at some point, but if they don't...

If you wanted to try not be so wasteful, you could try and arrange for the water to go to your water heater, or maybe your washing machine, if that's possible. You would be going through a lot of water though, but if you are able to make this possible, show us pics/temps :D

maybe you could run the exit water into your hot water boiler? don't know if it'll work. I think the boiler is never always full
 
As someone mentioned before, i would also imagine Alge would start growing and 1) mess up the pump 2) clog the waterblocks...
 
It would kick ass, but don't do it for reasons mentioned above.
 
I live on an acreage with a water well and water comes out of the well at around 3-5c year round. I thought long and hard about making a loop that cam from the ground, throught my system and back to the well. I had it all figured out, but decided not to do it as I have alot of soda and bacterial iron that would be deposited.

Would rule but wayy to much work to keep the system working well and not looking gross.

What I am going to do when I build my new house is when I go to dig the foundation I am going to sink a 55 gallon plastic drum below the frostline (I live in Canada) and run pex through the slab and to a small resovoir (near the computer) that will be curculating back to the top of the drum. I will make sure the suction hose will be close to the bottom of the drum to change the distilled water/antifreeze mixture occationally.

Then all you have to do is use the res from the drum as you would any other waterloop res. I figure would net me around the 7c mark for ambient temp. It will be fun to do too:) Only thing I have to figure out is what pump to use to either submerse in the drum (dont really want to go that route as I will never be able to get at it again) or what pump is self priming and would run at low pressure in my house and wouldnt be too loud.

Edit* Just to let you now I wouldnt use the pump from the drum loop to pump the computer system.
 
Get really long leads and a strong pump, and submerge your Rad in the well water lol!
 
I would recommend running a closed loop in your computer and running the tap water over the radiator. This way you don't get all the shit in your system.

Good luck with the new apartment. My current place is paid for by my job. So I have no rent or utilities. Lets just say it is a wasteful American's dream come true!! :D There is just something nice about walking into a 65F apartment on a hot summer day. :cool:

Yeah, seriously though. What's that gonna do, get you a couple degrees cooler? Is knowing that you're draining a lake worth that much?
 
I have been thinking about this for awhile. A simple way to get cold water could be to place the res in mini-fridge. You can easily run a hose in and out of the sides of one of these without leaking cold out into the room. One problem I see is condensation on the hose inside of the case, but i think this could be solved by sleeving the hoses in insulation.

This will not work at all. You will kill the fridge.

A simple explination, take a warm can of pop and put it in the fridge. Once its cold, it stays cold. Thefore, the fridge is not constantly running. Your computer however woudl be a constand heatsource. The water would continue to heat up, and the fridge would continue to have to cool it back down, therefor the fridge would have to run 24/7. You would very quickly burn out the compressor.
 
That depends on what temp the water when it enters the fridge and how sensitive the thermostate is. I have a friend that uses a similar set up to make liguid refreshments, and his is still running, of course he doesn't run it 24x7 either.

I guess a cheaper solution would be to just drop the res in a bucket of ice water before any gaming session.

....or a running river...if it works for a six pack :)
 
get a portable A/C unit, remove the sidepanel from your case, set the A/C unit to the lowest setting possible and have it blow air directly onto your PC internals.
 
Or, if we're getting that complicated, just go phase. I might see about turning a window AC into a water chiller sometime though. That would be quite fun :D
 
I had a window AC direct on my PC. This didnt work too well because of the dust. I will have a charcoal filter Inline before the loop. I have also refrigerated my PC.
