Rough New Case Design!

I am amazed at how people insist on designing their own computer cases and adding all sorts of unnecessary stuff to them.

---

I designed and built my own case - a nice wood case.

I designed it because I had space restrictions - sits on a shelf, and equipment needs - 12 hard drives and 10 USB ports. (only a "modest" CPU and power supply.)

I get by with 4 120mm cooling fans set on low - really only 2 are needed. I cut up an existing case to get the mounting components for the motherboard and the expansion cards.

Bumping, how much did everything cost ya? When are you starting the build process? I really like the design, I'm eager to see it get in motion.

I should have all those questions answered here within a week and you will not be disappointed i promise!:D;):p

OofC_S7v7N, You have inspired me to try my own hand at building a chassis. I am working on the design now and will have to get the computer parts next year after the prices drop some more. I have been getting my metal products from http://metalsupermarkets.com/, there is one only 20miles from my house so no shipping. Service has been really good and there is only a very small fee for cutting peices to size. May save you alot of time to get some of the larger peices cut to your size right from the supplier, and they will be pretty damn square as well.

Well good good, and i have a place here where i live that i order all metal things from and thanks for the help, but good luck with yous and keep me updated with how your case is going.

Im not building anything near as serious as that but thanks for the encouragement i really appreciate it!:D

Having trouble finding the right material either they have the wrong material but in the right width or they have the right material but dont have the right width, its getting pretty annoying, i might have to order out of state which is gonna be a pain.

Build it out of one solid sheet of carbon fiber, bent into shape (you DO know origami right?)

The design looks good, if you can actually build it... well that's the question.
Myself, I am terrible at building things as precise as computer cases.
I have built on several occasions 2-story war machines out of wood - so to each his own.

Post some updates! stat! With measurements so we can get an idea for how big this might actually be.

War Machines! Ok now you gotta post some screenies! :)

The Height is 24 1/2" Width 8 1/2" Depth 28 1/2, but as for carbon fiber would it still need to have some frame to have the carbon fiber?

I dig the idea man and it seems your making your ideas happen, I respect that. I build pretty much anything that I can for cheaper than I can buy it. I've modded cases (in fact im doing a Tuniq 3 now) but never built one. I've drawn one up but never made it happen, so good for you.

About the steel for the chassis and the material for the paneling, try Home Depot for the chassis as they have extremely light brushed (90 degree) aluminum in very long lengths and all sizes applicable. Its really cheap too. Ive used them for my cages/chassis in the past. For the panel, im not sure if this would work but for my knives I order sheets through a local Steel Shop to get watter jetted. Now the steel im using is different than what your needing BUT they may offer aluminum sheeting or even thinner light composition steel. If you can spec it they can cut it up for you too.

Just nail down the most logical air flow path, don't over do the fans, make some nice path for wire hiding and keep balanced between functionality and a little flash. It'll work out good brotha

I'm going to be really pissed off (but not surprised) when this turns out to be a case made out of carboard and duct tape.

This case will not be made out cardboard not tape, it will be very nice. And i was just thinking about using it in the a05b i wanted to buy not for this case

You know, I don't understand why people have to keep puttin the OP down. Everyone seems to think he is going to build a POS from crap materials. Why is that?

I got in touch with a man in my city! and from what he told me and what i told him the material sounds like it will work, i just need to go see how much he has and to see if it will work with my scissors. Everybody keep your fingers crossed!:D

Not sure why but, every ones dream is perceived as a place to piss.

OP - Good luck and god speed.

Sorry for no updates, but the company i was going to buy the material from got bought by another cough* going out of business cough!* so im looking for a more reliable company than that! You can understand of course? Right?

Smoked acrylic, etchings and cathode lights are for 12 year-olds.

Edit: upon further thought, OP is probably 12 himself.

yo bro dawg g. you need to put that shit into effect. show those thug haters what your crayon can do. that box made out of a few lines looks mad tyte, bro.

i don't even know what to say in response to this, other than perhaps keep your childish insults out of the threads, it ruins it for the rest of us

thanks

He was being sarcastic. Read the entire thread and you'll see why.

I read the entire thread, it was assholish sarcasm towards the OP's grammar in his posts

In his home theater thread, he made a comment to someone who typed in a similar fashion that was very negative and debasing, I felt

yeah, we get it, you made yourself popular with your home theater worklog, it doesn't give you any exclusive rights to be a complete asshole on these forums, though

sorry for fud'ing up this page with my rant, i should've probably sent these comments via PM, but I wanted it to be public to everyone that there are people here who find that kind of childish behavior unnecessary

I thought he was just being silly not to mention that his comment is three months old.

OP where is that damn case? lol :D

damn, encouragement seems to be thin on the ground for this project, though the crayon sketch gave me cause to :D, I guess it got things off on the wrong foot. Good luck with your build
/subscribed just to see if it makes it off the drawing board (or out of the crayon bag :p)
