Rosewill Mechanical Keyboard | $64

They almost always price the brown higher, probably because it sells the most anyway. It's actually more surprising that it might've dropped to $80 (during a promo at that).

They price the brown higher because the companies that market these things are dumb and bring far fewer brown keyboards to market than blues. Look at the models of the major brands in europe and especially asia. Brown is as common as blue and priced the same. Here in the states, you'll notice that those same companies always release the blues here, but seldom the browns.

Seems like a lot of people have bought mechanicals in the last couple weeks. I got a K60 this weekend. Frys had them for $69 (after MIR). 3 days with it and I'm really happy. I considered these Rosewills but at the time the K60 was cheaper.

Seems like there's some cycles to it too, at one point everyone was saying reds were rare and now they're all over the place. Companies line Ducky and even CM to an extent will sell a model with every switch type. Razer sells brown/blue and they probably move more keyboards than most due to marketing and retail presence.

NE's brown Rosewill is never really out of stock tho, and there's always people complaining it's $10-20 more while still buying it... NE ain't stupid!

I'm really tempted to pick up a brown at this price, got in on the last sale and got a Red and love it for gaming. I play FPS alot and some people say for those types of games its slightly inferior at worst, but the bump makes up for it when typing and other tasks, so I'm pretty sold. What do you guys think who have tried both, Reds vs Browns, worth it to own both or are Reds good enough?

*nevermind code expired :(

I just purchased a used Das Keyboard Silent. Am I going to regret getting that instead of this deal?

No, that's a great keyboard. It costs more and is a fingerprint/dust/smudge magnet, but that didn't keep me from enjoying my Das Keyboard Ultimate. Very solid board.

Having owned both, I'd say Reds are good enough. Browns are awesome switches too, but realistically the difference isn't great enough that I'd tell someone to spend $70+ on a whole new keyboard if they already enjoy their Reds (and inversely, if you don't like Reds there's a good chance you won't like Browns either because the slight tactile bump is the only real difference, and you would do well to try another switch type).

Went ahead and picked up one of the browns even though I've only had my K90 for ~ a week. I like a lot of things about the K90, but I'm not in love with MX Reds and definitely not a fan of the membrane keys. I figure this is as good an opportunity as any to try MX Browns for a reasonable price. Worse comes to worse I lose a few bucks on the return/selling it.

I got the Rosewill w/Browns (RK-9000BR) and it is a GREAT keyboard. Well worth the money. I've used various Dell and HP keyboards along with an ABS M1 and the Rosewill beats all of them in terms ease of typing.

I'm not a big fan of the brown switches myself, to me they just feel like dirty blacks or reds... that bump without the click just feels weird. If you want a great keyboard for all around usage I always recommend the blues. They are just an all around joy to type on. :)

If you're primary use is gaming then try the blacks or reds...

Well they each have their uses...my first keyboard had Blues and I love them too but noise is definitely a concern with those. Even if it doesn't bother you, it could easily annoy people around you or even in adjacent rooms. That's why my second keyboard had Browns; I wanted to keep some tactile feedback but tone down the noise and they did exactly that. Clears are another option but I don't think I'd like stiff switches which is why I don't have any keyboards with Blacks.

If Cherry made a switch that was quiet but had the feel of Blues, I'd be all over it. I suspect a lot of people would.

Ergo Clears? I know they don't technically "make" them, but some people have modified the clear to create what is supposed to be the closest to what you are asking. (Clears with blue/brown/red springs)

For those who didn't get the brown but want it on sale, (not as cheap here and no speaker included) there is a 24 hour sale on the brown, rk-90000BR $79.99 FS

Not low enough for me to bite since it was cheaper only a little while ago as indicated in this thread, and I'm fine what my mono price red coming soon. But if this was $74 or low I'd bite, but just bumping this in case anyone is interested.

*UPDATE*
USB Power connector on back is dead. I only unplugged it a few times. Only had it 2 months. Rosewill is sending me a replacement and giving me a shipping label.

Oh is that all, i thought this was a new deal based on the thread title :-P

Hopefully the replacement version has fixed this issue. Did you buy the reds, begining to worry a lil bit now.

Yes Reds. I called and talked to two different techs. The replacements are the same as the original I bought. They won't have any revisions until next year.
FYI the RK9100 Illuminated keyboards are hard wired. I am not getting a replacement, I am getting a credit and will buy something else. Sad...:(:(

You guys have me all paranoid now...

Mine with the MX Blues is still rockin' along... but I never mess with the cable (and I guess I never will heh)

^, ya I only unplugged it a few times. So don't ever move it around.

Why? These are among the most popular keyboards on the market and there aren't and you don't hear about too many problems. His issue doesn't seem to be that common. These keyboards aren't exactly new either.

I would still buy one of these over most other mechanical keyboards.

Not a bad idea, I've been using right angle micro USB cables with my phone for a while precisely not to stress the port. Amazon has them in 1/3/6 ft lengths, search for Startech right angle micro USB, they're thin but work fine.

check out 'just brew it!' post in this thread with pictures of his repair. I'm considering using his right angle cable and zip tie mod as a preventive measure.

Ahh well if it's just a matter of re-soldering then I'm not so worried anymore. I was under the impression that when these sockets break it was doing actual physical damage to the PCB.

No problemo then...

Not common? Cmon Gary do I have to bust your chops too like Howard? 90% of reviews on newegg complain about the USB port malfunction. It's an issue if you actually unplug the keyboard and use the port as it was intended.

The USB issue is a problem but then again this is a hard deal to beat for a mechanical keyboard. I own 5 of these rosewills and none have broke so far, nor have I had any other problems such as bad keys all of them are at least 3 months old.

Why do so many people unplug the cable? I don't think I've disconnected the USB cable from my Leopold once since I've had it. Obviously I don't think my usage represents everyone's but I just didn't think that many people would have the need to unplug the cable. I can understand if you're taking it to LANs or to/from work or a friend's house, but I'd have to think most people just plug it in and leave it on their desk.

I just wanted to add that I've had my Rosewill RK-9000 with MX blues for about a year now and I haven't had any issues. I've moved the keyboard around a lot and the USB port has held up fine.

Rosewill RK-9100 or the corsair vengeance one???

I have the non-backlit Rosewill and the K90, both are good choices... I'd wait around for a deal on either tho, they both drop to $100 or less a few times a year. I paid $85 for my K90. If you have no interest in media keys/volume, or the wrist rest, or the macro keys then the Rosewill might be the better choice (also if you think rubber dome F-keys will bother you).

I have two of these boards...one red and one brown.
The board with browns had its port come out of the solder points very quickly, and I was aware of potential problem before purchasing the board. I was very gentle with it, but it came out after around the 10th plugging cycle.
The board with reds is still going strong.

Defective is defective...if the port isn't soldered correctly, even being gentle with the keyboard probably won't help you...

YES LAN parties. I also unplugged it for fear of my cats puking on it. It has happened in the past. haha

I unplug my keyboards a decent amount. My brown stays plugged in all the time since it's a permanent cord, but when I move it and use either my blue or red board I plug them each into a USB cable I keep loose by my monitor for just this purpose. Depending on circumstances, I switch keyboards fairly often - I swap in the red board when I'll be gaming for a bit and the blue for serious typing when the fiance isn't around.

I've been tempted to buy a Rosewill board or two based on price, but with how I use them I'm pretty sure I'd have broken the USB connectors on them by now. It's also tempting to buy a couple of these for my lab since it has crap Dell boards, but I fear the lab volunteers would manage to break them. Sucks too since the prices on the Rosewills are so great :(

Why is this keyboard worth so much? It looks like it's just a normal old school keyboard like you could get for $15. Or did the prices on those keyboards skyrocket at some point?

I suggest you read up on 'mechanical' keyboards.

In short these keyboards use individual mechanical keyswitches instead of a rubber dome/plastic membrane. The result is a much more pleasant and accurate typing experience and (despite this particular thread) much increased reliability.

You'd never want to go back to a '$15 keyboard' again...

Isn't this the same as all keyboards used to be though? Say, like 10 years ago or so? I have several mechanical keyboards from late 90's/early 2000's that were dirt cheap. Or am I misunderstanding, and those old school noisy keyboards with raised keys are actually also membrane keyboards?
