RMA'ing a 9700Pro

If there is nothing wrong with your card today, chances are it's still fine. RMAing a non-broken card is a waste of time and money, and I'm sure you know how most of us feel about killing a card for RMA purposes.

First of all, you only "think" the card might die on you only because it's old. Maybe if you gave some more reason why you think it might die, someone would be more sympathetic to your problem.

Second, it seems like you're doing all this work to turn your 9700Pro into a 9800Pro at ATI's expense. Don't get me wrong, I understand ATI can afford to lose a few bucks here and there because they have more money than you, but your ethics are ridiculous.
 
Just because your 9700pro is old doesn't mean its gonna die I have a 4600 that still works just as good as the day I got it. Don't RMA just to get an upgrade thats stupid a 9800pro isn't all that much better than a 9700pro anyway.

It just sounds like the fan is going out.. I bet if you just stuck a new one on there you would be like new. Forget about the warrantee.. not worth the time without a video card and the difference is nil. .. also the lifespan of the 9700/9800 is pretty much done.. While your at it.. get some BGA ramsinks and some arctic epoxy and put it on the memory because they get pretty hot on the 9700. I did the same thing with my AIW 9700 Pro and have been using it for the past couple years.

You can try to use some canned air on the fan and see if it clears it up first.

you sir, are an ass.

Do you buy a car, use it in a destruction dirby and then claim its defective after you mess it up as well?
 
it's obviously the heat.. fan sporadic = heat, have to downclock = heat, artifacts = heat

it's easy to swap the fan... but if it's covered under warrantee and you don't carry about downtime.. then they should fix or replace the fan or give you a replacement... you don't have to purposely break the video card.

ban for what? for asking how to rma a 9700pro even if it did work fine? do you why the mods ban a person. why do u even post in this thread if you dont have anything usefull to say.


EDIT: Blink you can do whatever you want man, its your card its your decision. dont let these morons get in your way. ofcourse its unthical but it depends on the person wheather he want to do it or not.

He wanted to trade the card in FS/FT.

Blink, I'm glad you have decided not to RMA the card and I hope that you don't try to
sell/trade it on the FS/FT forums.

Also, he overclocked the card (Overclocking is overclocking even if it is 5 mhz) Trying to
abuse the system results in higher prices and more problems for those who have a real
reason to RMA something.

Although, since he decided not to RMA the card and/or sell the damaged card to
someone I really don't see a need for a ban.
 
To tell you the truth, I just recieved the card yesterday and it works fine. I said it was dying to avoid being flamed. My friend advised me to RMA it ti get a better card. I realized it would make the prices go up for other people and didn't want to scam ATI, so I decided not to RMA it. Sorry guys, I don't know what I was thinking a few days ago.
 
Lol, I deserved that. I am trying to help a few people out to make up for my "mistake". I fixed up Misterlin with a nice softmoddable 9500np for $60 shipped.

the core is faster than 9800pro speeds, those are fans off of xeon heatsinks, 5600rpm on full blast, makes my desk vibrate :p
