That’s what I did exactly. All good thus far. Had 7800X3D prior.
Thanks! So swap the CPU after the current chipset drivers are uninstalled using the built in uninstaller and the 3rd party uninstaller tool? Is the best RAM speed still 6000Mhz?

youre welcome...
you uninstall it and then run the clean up tool that should be in the amd folder on c: or download it.

Well the 9800X3D certainly has big gains over the 7800X3D in 3D mark ;)

So much for enough stock for November.🤣

It's only the beginning of the month, I'm sure there will be plenty of restocks coming through you'll get it this month. So it looks like the 9800X3D is pretty solid for older DX11 titles if Superposition is anything to go by, it's a DX11 benchmark from 2017.

Notice how the GPU utilization shoots up from a max of 43% on the 7800X3D to 90% on the 9800X3D . Minimums are worst however o_O

Despite improvements in workstation performance with the 9800X3D over previous X3D CPUs, it’s still a tough sell if you don’t game much. Whereas previous X3D CPUs do great at gaming but relatively poor workstation performance, the 9800X3D performs slightly better than the 9700X in workstation loads but costs as much money as the 9900X.

Try the settings shown in this time-stamped video:

View: https://youtu.be/mGinUBppUhc?si=NR7FLp50XsMfkF_6&t=77

On a 7800X3D, this results in the same performance as stock. But, drops 10C off the cinibench temps (I tried it on my own setup).

Because Zen 5 is a different architecture and boosts higher, it may need more like 85 watts to keep "stock" performance.

Got it set - booted into Windows 11 just fine (BTW MSFT license police got me after this CPU swap - I have swapped so many parts in this thing) - gonna leave HWiNFO up and let AIDA64 Extreme run CPU tests. Anything else that I should check? I will definitely test Fortnite. :)

EDIT: ran over an hour of AIDA64 System Stability Test - super cool but clocks are too low for my liking.I think the 9800X3D takes advantage of more voltage due to the change in the 3D v-cache stack...

Wow my MC had a ton of them yesterday and are completely sold out today.
Yea at mine there were about 80 people in line before open. I don't think they knew you could pre-order since only me and one other guy went to the "pick-up counter".

I had to buy a new windows key it wouldn't let me activate for the first time in like 10 years. Fortunately I got one off groupon for $12 (Win 11 Pro).

9800X3D runs about 8-10c cooler than a 7800X3D on a 240mm AIO if anyone was curious, most reviews used a 360 AIO. Seeing 76c in Cinebench R23 on the 9800X3D, 87c on my 7800X3D. The 9800X3D does hit 88c in Prime 95 though, but that's kind of expected.

For some reason my Afterburner/RTSS no-longer reports CPU temperature, CPU clock speed and a few other things, anyone encounter this and know how to fix it? I've tried reinstalling Afterburner/RTSS. HWINFO reports everything fine.

a reinstall might fix it, but i suspect it needs an update.

Amazon back in stock - January delivery. OOF

Probably a placeholder because my order from yesterday morning hasn't shipped and says November 19.

You tried going into the Afterburner settings to make sure the CPU readings are enabled?

I've had settings get unchecked after swapping hardware.

Yea I tried reinstalling, no luck. Guess it needs an update. I will probably use the hwinfo.dll to track the information in the OSD for the mean time, Afterburner updates are few and far between.

The settings don't exist, I was actually going to update my OSD before gaming on it and noticed they were not even listed.

Can i have AMD processor Ryzen 9800X3D and nvidia card rtx? That doesnt matter?

DPC latency is higher on the 9800X3D than the 5800X3D and 7800X3D currently, this will likely be fixed with updates though.

5800X3D average DPC latency: 1.0µs
7800X3D average DPC latency: 0.6µs
9800X3D average DPC latency: 1.3µs

probably will get patched in drivers and windows, but...
i dont know about you but i cant tell the difference in that low of milliseconds....

I think I just snatched (compulsive purchase) the last 9800X3D on Amazon -- delivery date is January LOL

Those are microseconds (1/1,000,000 second, or 0.001 milliseconds). It is a small amount of time, but it all adds up with the number of driver calls that are being made every second while playing music, video, or a game. It's not as bad as the NVIDIA driver issues in years prior, though, so I'm not sure it will be at all noticeable like those were if the latency isn't spiking to 1,000 microseconds or worse.
I think the guy is obviously a troll...
No, English just isn't his first language and I am pretty sure he is building his first PC based on prior discussions. Questions that may seem dumb to us are not dumb coming from someone who may not have even touched a PC component before.

that is true BUT hes already built and sold one (13/14th gen and a 4090) due to having housing issues. no, they are dumb. he keeps asking us to guess shit over and over, when he isnt building anything until he gets his housing sorted.

Hmm my windows lost activation, I did not change my motherboard and it said "no license stored", I did not reinstall Windows I did the "clean-up" method. I even tried logging into my MS account on my PC, checked my account profile online it showed my device as activated online. So I tried selecting "I recently changed hardware" in the activation troubleshooter did not fix the issue so I reached to to Microsoft via the web chat, a tech needed to remote into my PC to reactivate it. Not entirely sure what's going on with Windows licenses on 9000X3D's but I've read 2 other posts that mention it, hopefully this isn't a widespread issue.

You should be able to remove the old PC from your account manually. I had to do that when I upgraded to the 7800X3D, I just manually removed my old 5800X PC and then registered the new one. For some reason though I'm not having to do the same with my 9800X3D build despite it being a whole new motherboard and brand new install of Windows.

Did you order right when the listing first came up? That's what I did, right at 6am (PST). The order went through, but it seems stuck at "Order Received". No estimated date at all.

Anyone received any proper updates on the Walmart downloadable CPU lol? All I have got it is a $20 coupon code for my trouble so far, they shipped the RAM I ordered along side (that was sold by NE anyways) but not sure wtf is going on with cpu...I placed a backup order on amazon that shows a dec delivery date, which is fine, am in no rush to upgrade from my 5900x build, still have to pick a mobo (need 8 SATA ports and only the 670E Taichi seems to have that on AM5). Will give this downloadable CPU a couple more days to see if I get a proper update before canceling/asking for refund.

Some sites have the 9900X for $382. Which makes it nearly $100 cheaper!

As I said, you may need to add 10 or 15 more watts, due to it being a different architecture and specced with higher base clocks and boost clocks. (so PPT and TDC set to 85 or 90 or something like that).

But my 7800X3D was locked at 4.8ghz with those settings.

I go through this every time I upgrade CPU or board.
Didn’t get me yet when I reinstalled Windows! Hoping I’m clear in a day or two…I did get caught when I kept the same OS.

Decided to wipe clean when going 7950X3D to 9800X3D.
