I finished the epilogue.....Marston was still the same raging homicidal robbing maniac serial killer as arthur was!

I don't think this is a spoiler at this point and I am pretty sure you can do this at any point in the game. Just go south and west of Blackwater.

I can't believe I'm riding around in a fully realized Armadillo area and everything from Red Dead Redemption is fully realized in terms of towns, locales, assets, etc. This Mexican gang is no slouch, either.

What an easter egg and tease this is. I so wish Rockstar would finish the job. They are at least halfway there with this as is. I would pay full price right now for it. Easy money Rockstar. I know I'm not the only one.

If you read the legal brief T2 filed on that modder, it sure sounds like a remaster of RDR1 into the RDR2 engine may actually be in the future plans....

https://torrentfreak.com/images/1-19-cv-11818-Take-Two-v-Red-Dead-191226-complaint.pdf

Take-Two brings this action to maintain control over its world-famous video games in the face of Wyckoff’s publicly stated intent to distribute unauthorized software files that would dramatically change the content of Take-Two’s video games. Those unauthorized changes include but are not limited to importing the entire game map of 2010’s Red Dead Redemption into the 2018 game Red Dead Redemption II, enhancing graphics and visuals in Take-Two’s Red Dead Redemption game, and allowing players to play an enhanced version of the game on personal computer (“PCs”), a platform for which Take-Two itself has not yet released the Read Dead Redemption game.

The first software project that Wyckoff has announced modifies and alters RDRII to add the full RDRI game map to the RDRII game map (the “RDRII Project”). This significant alteration to RDRII would dramatically change the RDRII game experience, reduce the interest of players in purchasing a future RDRI PC version or RDRII add-on map product , and deprive Take-Two of control over its valuable products.

The second software project that Wyckoff has announced, which he calls Red Dead Redemption Damned Enhancement Project (“RDR-DEP”), would import modified game files from GTAV and RDRI to vastly improve the graphics and performance of the game, which players can then use to play an enhanced version of RDRI on PCs—a platform where Take-Two has not yet made the game playable—thereby destroying the market for an official, updated version from Take-Two, and creating competition for Take-Two’s PC-version of RDRII (RDRII Project and RDR-DEP collectively referred to herein as the “Infringing Programs”).

Maybe it's nothing, but it sure makes me wonder....

They just shut down some modder that was going to import RDR into RDR2 and have RDR fully playable.

I just don't get this. Why not work something out with the modders where the devs/publisher get a cut. Have something friendly going where everyone wins?

I hope Rockstar does it themselves but I can't hold my breath on it.

no, dev publishers don't want a cut. they want the whole pie. Steam is a bit of an exception here with the way they handled black mesa and reuse of their assets.

I generally agree. Yet in Rockstar's case they release such a top-tier, high-profile, widely acclaimed product that it doesn't surprise me they want total control over that product.

If you own a burger business, by some BIG MAC ® sandwiches, change everything out but the buns with hand-picked organic ingredients, kept the wrapper, the offer that product at a lower price or free, and with delivery... that's probably kind of how Rockstar is looking at it.

If they dont protect their IP, they lose it.
They dont have a choice but to keep it in house if they want to capitalise on it fully.
Dont get me wrong, I'd love to see it happen, especially as a free mod.

Rockstar has always been very protective of their IPs. As much as it would give us all the warm and fuzzies to see R* team up with a bunch of modders on this project, there is absolutely no reason from a business standpoint why R* should or would do that. They have a few options with RDR1. A 4K port (such as what is on Xbox One X) getting released on PC and PS4/5. This is the cheap and easy way, but they obviously wouldn't get a warm reception if a better version exists for free on PC. If they instead decide to do a full on remake, you can be certain that as with all things R*, PC would be an afterthought. The game would be remade for PS5 / XSX and hopefully get a PC port later. In that scenario, R* would be pushing out a full $60, boxed retail, multi platform product. They have nothing to gain by teaming up with a group of modders, they are better off just doing all development in house.

I'd love to see a top to bottom remake of RDR1, it's one of the finest games ever made, period. Honestly, I'd rather pay for a complete, polished version of the game brought up to the standards of RDR2, than I would want of a free mod. I kinda don't think that's what's happening here though, I think this is just Rockstar being Rockstar, making sure everyone knows that their IPs are theirs, and theirs alone.

Fair enough and I'm with you.

I think anyone who has ever seen me for the entire time on this forum knows that I view Red Dead Redemption as one of my favorite games of all time and I would happily pay whatever I have to, to finally get that full, complete, deluxe modern version you describe. :)

I loved both games (currently replaying RDR1 after wrapping up RDR2 earlier in the year). They are remarkable, and IMO Rockstar's finest works. I know a lot of people would disagree, but I like these games so much more than GTA. GTA is fun, but it's silly, and it's stories and settings have never engaged me like RDR... it's just another shooter to me. RDR1/2's more serious tone and realistic setting (to the point where many consider it's realism tedious and boring) are absolutely memorizing to me and really shows (despite everything we PC gamers think they do wrong) just how much talent there is at Rockstar. I love everything about these games, and would gladly pay for a top-to-bottom remake of RDR1 in RDR2's engine. Still not getting my hopes up though, we all know that GTA is Rockstar's bread and butter. If Rockstar did ever decide to remake something from their back catalog, I really don't see them choosing RDR over something from the much larger and more profitable GTA catalog. If they have any plans for RDR1, I think it's a lot more likely we'll see the Xbox One X version make it's way to PC and PS4/5 (which I'd still buy, just to play it at 4K 60FPS).

I love the GTA games as well on their own strengths but I couldn't agree with you more on this overall.

You really should go back and play the epilogue. It's a different pace than the main game and much more limited in scale, but I still think I put around 8 hours into it. It's rewarding in its own right, and does a decent job of bridging the gap from RDR2 into RDR1.

So yeah, as mentioned previous this is my 2nd playthrough, with the first one being on PS4 and now on PC. My wife thinks I have an addiction with this game and she may be right!. I rarely go to youtube or how to's for this game simply because to me it's a slow burn and I'll figure out some of the maps and side stories/secrets as they come. However the one I had no clue about that has blown my mind is the story behind the serial killer. In my first play through I did run into a couple crime scenes, but didn't think much of it. I did not ever find the 3 pieces of the map. This play through I did... how great!

So many things I missed on the first run that I'm catching now. In my opinion, and mine alone, this may be the best game ever made. That's sayin something.

I've heard the performance on this is abysmal compared to the port of GTA V, and that even on the newest video cards the game still struggles to maintain a reasonable framerate with higher detail levels. Is there any point trying to run the game on a RTX 2070 Super at 2560x1440? Or will I be limited to lower detail settings? I really enjoyed Rockstars other titles, so if I am going to be stuck running things on minimum detail levels I will wait for the next generation of video cards before I attempt to run it. I have also read that some of the updates have improved the performance somewhat, but have been unable to find any reviews that use the patched version for benchmarking. Can any one with a similar system confirm if it is playable? Processor wise, I have a 3950X paired 64 GB of ram.

Couple of guys on the last page are running 1080 Ti cards and both said they're getting avg. frames of 40-45 with maxes of ~60 and mins of ~30...BUT, they were both playing at 4K. IIRC your 2070 Super is roughly equivalent in performance to a 1080 Ti, right? Or maybe I'm thinking of the regular 2070 and your Super would be a bit faster. You should be fine at 1440p. I don't know that you'll be able to run max detail on everything (actually I guess this would depend on how many frames you're looking for), but I don't think you'll be running minimum detail by any means.

Maybe if you're on the fence, one of those guys can run the game at 1440p for you and see how it performs on their Ti.

Thank you! Yes, the RTX 2070 Super is roughly equivalent to the 1080 Ti. I'm hoping to run around 60 FPS if possible.

I played though the entire game on a GTX 1080 at 1440p and the game was over 60fps 95% of the time.

Your performance will be shit if you just crank everything to ultra for _extremely_ small visual gain. The game runs fine if you don't literally halve your performance because chasing a visual return that is hard to even discern in a static screenshot

Some of you are exaggerating what your video cards are capable of in this game. Turing actually has a big lead over Pascal in this game and even something like a 2080 super has to have quite a few settings turned down to maintain 60fps at 1440p. And a 1080ti performs over 30% worse than a 2080 super in this game so somebody using that card at 4K would struggle quite a bit without a buttload of settings turned down. Anybody that's followed this game at all though knows there's guides for picking the best settings.

Another 1080Ti 1440p Gsync guy who is looking at getting this game checking in. It seems from benchmarks and that guide above I will have to turn some stuff down which is fine as long as it is generally smooth.

It's a CPU heavy game your GPU is fine but some 4 core Intel CPUs dont do very well.

I was somewhat interested in playing this after I upgrade but I watched this video last night and now the game is ruined for me

I tried to post a regular link for people who want to watch in fullscreen but I don't know how to stop the forum from changing the link to an embedded video. Search for American Krogan on bitchute if you want to watch it there

Why would you watch a video about a game you want to play that explicitly states it's "Full of spoilers"?

It wasn't the spoilers that ruined the game for me. It was the hamfisted propaganda and slanted historical inaccuracies the video points out. I never really care about spoilers.

Yeah, on my 2080ti at 1440p and cranked settings it would hang out around 60 fps with occasional drops down to 50. Using the HWUB "Optimized settings" it's 100 fps all of the time and still looks pretty amazing. I went ahead and bumped a few settings up a notch or two and it's a solid 90 fps.

It's hard to believe but this game actually feels much much better at 90 fps than it does at 60. I don't know if it's just the framerate increase or the way the animations work but at 60 fps the aiming and movement just feels incredibly slow. The 60 -> 90 fps jump in RDR2 is even more noticeable to me than the jump from 60 -> 144 in fast first person shooters.

I'm starting to gradually get into online a little bit. I hope there is some staying power because I don't want this to end. The videos posted for settings...have those been for 4K or 1440p? I used them anyways with a 4k 1080ti situation and they have definitely helped. I'm not sure how much more I can really do. At least I'm within the g-sync grace zone and that's extremely helpful.

I finally picked this up from CDKeys for 50% off and am really enjoying playing it this weekend! I just wanted to share my experience with HDR with others on the forum. Like others, I found that even adjusting the paper white value and nits setting, the game just looked dull with HDR enabled in game. I am using a Gigabyte Aorus FI27Q-P display, and I found that if enabled HDR under Windows 10, and and select Vulkan as the renderer and disable HDR in game, the contrast, saturation, and everything in general looks amazing. I found that you have to max out the SDR brightness setting under the display settings in game, but what I am seeing on my screen makes any screenshot I've seen online look like a cartoon. This does not work for DX12, however. Maybe the Vulkan API naturally supports HDR? Just thought I'd pass along as I haven't seen this posted elsewhere.

The color saturation is a bug or janky implementation. It definitely gets screwy and muted when you enable HDR.

Only real fix is... manually cranking saturation to compensate.

I dunno about this game in particular (which supposedly isn't using real HDR), but at least with my setup every game looks like that without a specific HDR color configuration setting. Basically every HDR game I own looks washed out unless I swap over to my TV's high-contrast/brightness mode that I calibrated for HDR content.

Even true HDR Game mode looked like bunk in my opinion. I know everyones system is different, but do try forcing HDR in Windows, disabling HDR in game, and selecting Vulkan render. I am just so blown away with how good it looks. Besides Forza 4 and Doom Eternal, it is some of the most impressive HDR I've seen. I was up on a hillside last night by the Trappers cabin, and and the sky was a nice shade of purple with the bright moon in the sky and a train with the lit windows went by. The whole think looks almost photographic. Same thing for the evening jaunts through town. The quality of lighting is just great. It's too damn bad that neither the screen grab function in Gamebar or Nvidia Experience seem to work with HDR.
