I'm not quite sure where I should post this question, but I figured that this is where all the deals are so if there are rebate cards given, you guys are the ones getting them.

I have a few rebate cards that I would like to use on some computer parts. Unfortunately Newegg doesn't let me make partial payments on purchases, so it makes it very difficult to use the cards for the things I want/need. I have seen a couple of different things that people do to use these cards which include receiving cash for them at your bank or someone else said they somehow use them with paypal so that they can use the exact amount towards their desired purchase. I would like to be able to do something like the second option. I want to spend these rebates towards more computers parts, so if there is any advice please let me know.

Thank you in advance

Stores will usually allow you to hand them multiple cards telling them exactly how much is on each one. I just did that at AAA with a $25 card.

spend cash on computer parts and find deals on them either buying from the for sale market place or going to other vendors or pricematching. I save all the visa card and rebates for gas, food, groceries and such and then use ebay, forums, and newegg for everything else.

If you are broke and need computer parts then sell off the individual cards like if you have 3 cards of $40 each which is $120 sell it for like $110 shipped or such

I have taken Visa gift cards to the bank and deposited them, they cash them out and deposit the cash.

Can I load them up to my paypal account? I thought someone said that thats what they do.

I use it for gas. Hand them a $20 giftcard and a $20 bill and fill-her up...Everyone needs gas...eventually. I know you wanted to use it for part...so just mentally allocate the $$ to your computer parts. Works the same :)

Depends on the amount. If it's the 5-25$ kind I just spend it the next time I go to walmart or whatever. When I got a couple of 100$ back for my new DroidX's, then I just went online and had the gift card's company do a direct deposit into my checking account.

I should mention that I almost exclusively purchase parts from Newegg. They have the most amazing customer service, at least towards me I think cause I spend so much with them.

Gas and groceries. Krogers is the only place around me that it isn't a hassle to use them.

If newegg is your goal you can use them to buy multiple newegg gift certificates which can be combined on checkout.

I usually don't use mine on gas or groceries because then I lose out on credit card rewards (3% cashback).

Other than the hassle of what to do with them, another thing I don't like about these prepaid cards is that there are stories of the accounts getting compromised and people actually getting a bill for someone trying to spend more than was on the card (or trying to spend any money when the card is already depleted).

Companies giving them out (Attention: OCZ), F*** YOU.

Also, this should be in hot deal discussions.

I hate remembering how much is left on the card so I wait till I buy something I need over the price then make them put the full card amount toward it and pay the rest with cash. The largest rebate I have recieved is 100$ so I have not had to do anything else.

I convert them to Amazon gift cards where they will be spent quickly. Since you can buy an Amazon gift certificate in any amount, it's pretty simple.

This is exactly what I do. Send myself an Amazon GC by email. Also nice because Amazon only lets you use one "Credit Card" per transaction, so I can buy a bunch of GC's with the random rebate amounts and apply them to one purchase.. and they don't expire either.

take it to my bank and they cash them and either put it in my account or hand the $$ to me. no charge. FTW.

I just use them at the grocery store in addition to my debit card. The money still ends up in my checking account, because it's money I would have used, but didn't.

Good thread. I've always been using them at Target, since it's no hassle to use multiple cards at the checkout. I think next time I'll use it to buy Amazon GC, or if it's a big amount the bank route sounds good too.

Yes, great thread. I had a rebate card arrive and another on the way, and I was wondering what to do with them. With Christmas coming and most of my gift shopping on Amazon, I'll go the Amazon gift card route.

If you are set on spending at newegg, buy newegg gift cards with them. The last newegg rep said that would also work if you want to use multiple payments.

Target/Walmart/Groceries/Gas. I find it difficult to believe this is an issue for some people.

I used one at Amazon.com by purchasing a Amazon.com gift card with it, just be sure to go $1 under the amount the rebate card is good for because they do a $1 temp hold to make sure the card is legit and then do the actual purchase right after.

I then applied the gift card to my shopping cart and then used my Amex for the rest.

Recently, I used one of mine on Amazon and deposited the other through my bank. Can't hurt to ask your teller. They might give you a blank stare but once it goes through, you know that it was worth asking. ;)

This is what I do also. Helps that I buy a ton of stuff on Amazon every month, too. I get kind of sad when I buy something and realize I had to actually pay for it because my gift card balance was used up.

I'm glad you guys like the thread, I knew I wasn't the only one trying to find the best way to use these rebate cards. Thank you to those of you that suggested buying Newegg Gift Certificates, that worked perfectly.

I look forward to more creative uses for these rebate cards. I keep getting more and more trickling in from the mail. I buy to much stuff

I did the Amazon gift-card to myself thing... worked for me... didn't worry about the $1 temp hold, it just went through fine.

I am store manager at small grocery store (my uncle's store) so i just run the card and take the money out.

Thats fortunate for you scb.

Like I said, I bought Gift Certs from Newegg, but I haven't gotten them yet. It took a day for me to get the email confirmation that the payment went through, and now I'm just waiting in limbo I guess. Anyone know how long their gift certs usually take?

^^^^^ what lolz are you talking about like FICO score or what....how would they ever track your credit score unless you are giving your social security number to the newegg rep or who ever when you are ordering a video card. These are just prepaid visa cards and you use them up and throw them . Sometimes they have your name on it but usually are pretty generic and you can use them anywhere visa is accepted which is everywhere and according to one user even hookers take them...now don't give your social out to a hooker cause uhhmmm.....this one time in band.....
