Uhm... Yeah... I'm really embarrassed to ask this, but I've never used a reservoir in this manner before... So, let me just relinquish my pride for a moment and get down to business :).

If you have a reservoir that's NOT the highest point in the loop... Will water jet out the top of it if you uncap it :D

For example, I want to add one of the Dtek tube reservoirs... And the fillport (top of the res) will be about a FOOT below my top-mounted radiator...

Will I get a nasty mess :)

Nope and it wouldn't make any difference if you mounted the reservoir in the bottom of your case. :p

If you look in the case mod section you will find a few Aquatubes mounted in the bottom of the case. Now if you have an aquajet pointed up then definitely you will get water squirting out of the reservoir. The reservoir can be at the bottom of the case and no water will come out the fillport for esoteric reasons I'm too drunk to discuss at the moment. hicccccupp
 
Well, I THOUGHT you could, with no problems... I mean, I see swiftech micro-reses mounted that way all the time... But theres a big difference from seeing it done and believing it will work haha.

I'm a Tline guy... but those EK column reservoirs are too goddamn irresistible.

I'm actually looking at an alphacool style res with a "jet" attachment like the Aquatube... They're cheaper and they come with caps to fill the unused threads...
 
My microres is emptied, filled, and resides at the very lowest point in my loop. It certainly requires more short primes of the pump to fill the system, but it works fine sealed or unsealed.

Pics please! Depends on how you mount the Alphacool reservoir. You might also want to consider the one made by Innovatek and someone around made some in Delrin and plexi IIRC.

Unfortunately, none of those have a top, mounted plug... Meaning it'd be sorta useless without a fillport... Either way, I'm purchasing today, so I need to go out and buy another hole-saw too. Lots of em are aluminum too, which sorta defeats the purpose of having a tube res IMO :)

But, ugh, the logistics at this point are what's holding me back... This doesn't look like it'll be as easy to setup as I figured it'd be... :eek: Space issues.
 
Interesting question!

I just finished redoing my loop because I had my res at the bottom of the case while the pump and radiator was towards the top. I can tell you it was a bitch to fill for the exact reason you outlined. The second the pump was turned off or I opened the res, water was coming down to that point and trying to escape. End of the day I put the res top on my DDC and made filling much easier. I would not recommend placing the res at the bottom if your pump will be up towards the top. Now with the pump at the bottom too, not sure as I have not tried it.

Well, technically the res is higher than the pump, but lower than the main radiator.

Infact, come to think of it, I've done a similar thing before for a client's computer that *HAD* to have a bay-reservoir, and there was no issue... So I'm not all that worried :)

Just, before drilling and cutting into my case, yknow, I wanted to make sure the tube reservoirs weren't any different :3

And I've got the MCP655 for it's quietness and reliability.

Having the res at the top of the loop makes filling it with water easier, but the only thing that it should be above is the pump.
 
OT I know but the topic title had me thinking the op would be asking how babies are made :p

Yes on the filling part, but doesn't make any difference in a closed loop where you put the pump.
