I did a format on my main rig and installed 3dMarks2001 SE (Yes I said 3dmarks 2001 SE). I run it with everything default and got a spanking 6400 in 3dMarks 2001 SE. I installed the omega drivers Omega Drivers 3.8.291 (Catalyst 6.9) and got 6700. What in the world could be wrong? I got 8k on a lot slower machine 2 years ago.

Ati 9800 Pro 128Mb
P42.8Ghz w/HT
1GB 3200 DDR
10k RPM Raptor
Windows XP SP2

Shouldnt I be getting 15-16k in 3dMarks 2001?

Anyways, it probably is the chipset drivers no installed, or you're running some AA/AF settings in the videocard options that kills performance.

Real nice....

Just a thought, I had alot of luck with the cats 5.12 and my 9800pro...

the Mobo is an Asus P4C800-E Deluxe. I downloaded INF Update Utility [INFINST_AUTOL.EXE] (1102KB)
i installed it and got 8k with all default settings of 3dmarks 2001 SE.

Still not near what I would be expecting.

Try using regular ATI drivers, I used to have issue with my 9800pro and omega drivers. You could also run a defrag with diskeeper 10, that used to give me better score with 3dmark.

It's right where you should be with a P4. I wouldn't use a p4 as a paperweight....they should all be collected and ground-up back into sand. They would be more useful.

Well I did what you suggested and got standard drivers from the ATi website and got a 7600 again :(.

Man I dont understand what the heck is going on.

AGP and chipset drivers can screw stuff up. Right after install of windows, you HAVE to install chipset drivers right away, then your other stuff. Going back afterwards sometimes doesnt work :/

For shits and giggles, make sure that aa and af are off, as well as making sure the vsync is OFF.

good luck.

There is no way on God's green earth you got that score with that CPU / Video card combo. It's a complete fabrication....and you know it. You didn't even run the test all the way through. And you probably manipulated your system to report a different video card and CPU than what you REALLY used. Of course, I wouldn't know how to do that, since i'm not lame enough to fabricate ORB results. Who the hell would do that, anyway?

Why don't you give me some of what YOU'RE smoking..I actually think you believe you got that score legitimately.

okey dokey there sparky.

That's not my score, but it's easy to get 15k plus with a stock fucking 9800 pro.

you know if you like flaming something you dont like why dont you go do it in someone elses thread because it is starting to annoy me. I am just wanting to get the performance I payed for 2 years ago not the performance of a computer thats 2 years older than the one having the problem.

For shits and giggles I ran 3dmark01 on this piece of shit over here we're using as a 'server'
With running tons of shit, quickbooks, a bf2 standalone server, and connected with real vnc (very choppy)
I got, on this:
2.1ghz amd athlon xp
9800 non pro
1gb pc 3200
very shitty, very old via motherboard

score was 12222

So shut up now, k? k.

Just ran it on my wife's machine.

Dell Dimension 4600, P4 3g Northwood, 1 gig of whatever generic ram they put in their machines, and a 9800pro at stock cats 5.12

14813 3dMarks2001 SE.

Edit...
She has more shit running on this machine than I care to look at....

lol well thats great but I am losing ground here.. I just installed the drivers from the ATi website and i got 6100 :(.

What the hell does all this garbage mean? All you proved to me, is that you can compile a list of lies from other liars. You're my hero... And I'll take a 2.1 ghz Athlon XP over a p4 any day. Rockin' the free world with that 12, 000, eh? Like that's much better than 8,000 in 01SE.

What a douche....

You are running DriverCleaner after you remove your old drivers... right?

The only other thing I can think of is the possibility that your card may be on it's way out, I mean it is an older card.

Not to be a doomsayer or anything, but my 9800pro died a somewhat sudden death about 6 months ago...

*sigh*.

I installed these other drivers (3.9.94a or whatever) and got 9600 on 3dMarks.

I am going to do a full format again and try this again.

I am going to install Chipset drivers - > video drivers and then install 3dmarks and see what happens.

I'm telling you, you can change drivers all you want, you're not going to do much better. I had a P4 Northwood once, I got barely over 10,000 in 01 SE with an OC'd 9800 Pro. I was so incensed at it's poor performance, I RMA'ed it back to New Egg the very next day. I never bought another Intel CPU again until the Core 2's.

Why cant I see Gretas replies now? Wierd.
Still think 6.5k is a reasonable score for a p4 and 9800 pro?
In any case, good luck with the reformat, will probably fix what ails you, assuming you do the driver installation in the right order.

Ok I just reformatted and installed the intel chipset drivers rebooted and then installed the ATI drivers rebooted and installed 3dmarks 2001 SE and got 10008.

I am at a loss on what to do any more. I remember when I first got this machine I was getting 13k-14k ish until i installed the chipset drivers. Once I installed them I got 17-18k.

This is the whole reason I did a format was to fix my performance issues in WoW and UT2k4. When I would get in a raid or go to a highly populated area II couldn't get more than 10 FPS when more than 20 people were around me and ALL the pretty stuff was off running at 1280x1024.

This machine has been running at stock everything from when I got the thing so I do not understand at all why the performance is slowly becoming non existant :(

Is VSYNC off when running the benchmark?
Can you get some ingame FPS for reference? Maybe its fine now, just your settings are wrong for 3dmark.
10k is a damned sight better than the 6.5 or whatever you were getting earlier.

Did you have me edited out, eno-on? You like being a little cheese-dick?

6.5k, 10.5k 12.5k....does it really matter? P4's are equivalent to fecal matter.

Just because you have someone's posts edited, doesn't mean what they said isn't true.

Edit that, you punk.

Yeah, its the v-sync....

fucking genius...

How can you check if VSYNC is off? Is it in 3dmarks or is it in windows?

I think Vsync can be forced to off in the catalyst control panel?

Just a thought, what does CPUz say as your current AGP width? Sometimes, with wierd FSB settings, my old P4 board would revert to 2x AGP... that REALLY hammers down your score!

In your BIOS, do you have any wierd AGP Sidebanding or fastwrite settings on?

Ummm...no offense, but...if you do not know how to check VSYNC...how have you been verifying the FSAA and AF settings? Those are ENORMOUS performance killers, and are set in the exact same place as VSYNC is set in. (Can't step you to it, unfortunately, as I just swapped over to an nVidia card. It's in the settings of the Catalyst Control Center.)

I was changing the AA and the other setting that yall suggested in 3dMarks.

Hahah what luck. Now I do not understand what the heck is going on. If I install any of these drivers now the machine will go to the windows loading screen and restart and then keep looping like that. If I unplug the cdrom and it boots up fine. Plug the CDROM back in and it won't start does the whole get to windows loading screen and restart. If I revert back to the default Windows XP drivers it will boot fine or if I go into safe mode. Anyone know what the ATI drivers are doing to maybe cause the machine not to boot with a CDROM drive plugged in?

I also tried 2 different cdroms and it still has the same effect.

i only get about 12k witha 5900 fx on a 2400+. I think you are suppsoe to get at least 14000..

With my old puter I scored 18359. It was a Mobile Barton clocked at 2.6Ghz and a 9700pro clocked at if I remember correctly 390 on the GPU and 360 on the RAM. You're system should do as good if not better with that 9800pro.

http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=8430956

Have you checked the SMART Gart and made sure it's all set up with fast writes and reads turned on?

Also, to keep things simple for you, I would stick with Catalyst version 5.13. If I remember correctly, those had the simple control panel and also had some bug fix. Newer drivers really don't do much for older hardware.

You're wrong.... I don't think you people realize just how weak a P4 is. 3dmark01 SE is highly CPU dependent when determining the final score. Mobile Bartons blow away P4's in gaming.

He's not doing anything wrong, its not the drivers, its not BIOS. It's not the fucking SMART GART or the VSNC.......It's the P4. I have had all of those CPU's- Mobile Bartons, Athlon XP, Athlon 64, Pentium 4, Celeys....you name it. My first celey was a 333 MHZ Slot 1. I know what i'm talking about.

You're all giving him bullshit advice and false hope of getting that system to run like anything else but what it is........WEAK......for gaming, anyway.

I have always had good luck with the 5.13 cats on both my 9800pro and 9600xt. The 5.13's gained me about 650+ points versus the 6.11 drivers.
