Really bad performance with ATI9800 pro

Please turn off vsync in your control panel. Also give us some benchmarks of other games. What else do you play?

Still sticking with that v-sync bullshit, eno-on, you cheese-dick genius of a human being?

Just for fun I tried 3dmark2001 with my x800xl I got 21,227 lol I remember when I was happy when I got 12k. Your doing something wrong maybe you should find one of your friends to help you who is a little more knowledgable. I learned the hard way and through experience and the vast sites on the internet HardOCP of course my favorite. You'll be apro by the time you figure it out ;)

Interesting, I ran 3D Mark 2001 just a couple of minutes ago and got 24527 with my system in my sig. I thought I would've gotten higher than that.

Well I figured it out.

Thanks to everyone that helped but it happened to be something that not a single person suggested (or atleast that I read).

Everyone kept going on about drivers this and drivers that upgrade this, install this in this sequence etc etc but it didn't matter (like I figured it wouldn't).

The only post that actually caught my eye was the post saying something about the card dying. I know from all my electronic classes at school, solid state devices just do not slowly die. They are either working or dead (there are some rare cases but it is very very rare).

So I started thinking I maybe had some kinda external problem and not software issues. So I checked the PSU it didn't have a problem. The problem was sitting on my finger after I closed up the case (after I put the PSU back in). Dust... I went and got a can of air and blew the case out (it did not look like there was much build up of dust and that is why I didn't figure it would cause it, all my temps were in range 50-55 under load).

But I am now getting 17.7k in 3dmarks 2001 with the shitty M$ drivers. I am also getting 50-70FPS stable in WoW (with all the prettys) and am getting an easy 120 FPS in UT2k4.

Thanks to everyone who put in suggestions.

That doesn't make any sense, unless the card was overheating ot the point of erroring.

I am not sure you would have to look at the stuff intel/ATi put into there design so the chip wouln't burn up.

9800 didnt have anything like that, far as I know, which is why I'm saying that isn't what fixed it.

but the CPU does I know so its possible that the cpu was declocking its self.

Are they saved some how because I didn't manually save them? Because I didn't save any of them.

Don't know though it is still running good though. I am running around 60-80FPS on WoW right now.

I got sick of messing with it so I quit and played some WoW I was getting 10-20 FPS. It dropped down to 4-5FPS I got pissed off and took it outside to blow it out. Come back in with it clean plugged it up and got 17.7k 3dmarks and then started up WoW and it has been at a stable 50-60FPS.

Maybe you are right but then we will know something else thats not the problem but it seems to be fixed (as of right now).

I assume I could simulate the problem by stopping the heatsink fan and seeing if the problem comes back. But I always go by the rule if it ain't broke don't fix it :p.

Check your smartgart settings in the control panel and make sure its on. i have had problems with Nforce drivers screwing with that back when i used an ATI card.
