Can anyone recommend a real life simulator where you can do things like go in buildings, go up lifts, get on a bus or train etc ... It doesn't need to have an endgame (don't want to have to build it like Sim City). It's for my autistic son - he likes to explore that sort of thing, but I don't know much about what's out there.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Are you looking for a game similar to the Sims? Where you have a character and watch as they live our their lives in the game world or are you looking more for a game where you yourself can explore, etc?

If he likes trains you might want to look into Train Simulator or similar games. Also a game like say, Euro Truck Simulator or the newer American Truck Simulator where you just haul things across the map and get to explore the land.

Thanks Stiler. I mean something where you can explore. The closest I've got is Second Life - which isn't bad. He likes Euro Truck.

Second Life is the only thing remotely close that I can think of...

What about something like Minecraft? He can build his own world.

Have him try Microsoft Flight. Successor to Flight Simulator that never really took off. You can actually get out of the plane and walk around. Take On Helicopters is similar, but with helicopters and based off the Arma engine. Take On Mars is pretty cool too.

GTA... there may be a no-violence mod if you are worried about that sorta thing...

also has he tried skyrim or anything like that? Skyrim is huge on exploration..

Thanks for the suggestions guys - really appreciated. I'm just checking them all out now - videos on Youtube give a good idea of the game. Will let you know which one works.

may not be exactly what your looking for but I bet its close.

City Life RPG mod for Arma2

ARMA II: City Life RPG 2 Review - MMOGames.com

The Arma Series already supports indoor/outdoor environments very well

It sounds like he likes walking simulators.

ARMA mods were the first thing I thought about when I read this thread. I got a laugh out of walking simulators because my friends and I used to joke about DayZ being "Walking Simulator 2014" when we were playing it a lot. Seriously though, you could totally wonder around those maps for days if you just wanted to explore stuff, and a lot of the mods take a lot of emphasis off the shooter aspect of the engine.

Just leave him in the mall restroom until they close for the night then he can explore all he wants.

Dear Esther... don't you basically just walk around, or are these no towns?

Not a game but... Google Earth?

I could spend hundreds of hours in it and not be bored.
