Rare Expensive Water Block?

Thats strange... I dont hear any kind of high pitched noise at all from mine.

Perhaps it's in the recording method?

Rather than go through the same debate as we did months ago with the D4, I would be inclined to say that it might be the same issue as with that pump. People aren't crazy, just that for some reason some of the pumps are incredibly silent, and others have a whine to them. Unlike the D4 I would be inclined to say that the DDC is more often quiet than noisy.

i know that the DDC rates somewhat louder than the 1048, but either is rated substantially quieter than a HDD is rated for. just an example, WD cavier IDE idles at 28 db. the DDC puts out 22 db. which am i going to hear in an opperational system? probably not the pump, other factors being equal.

i just don't see how the DDC would be that obtrusive, even if the 1048 runs quieter. whatever, people can get what they want to get.....and the G7 will do as well or better than any other block out there at all but the lowest flow rates.

Based on experience or the normal "hear say"? I will never put another D4 type pump in my rig as it is just too loud. It works for most, just not me.

Well, knowing D4 is bad as well, there is no reason to keep giving DD another chance, there are far better co. out there.

Going back to the original subject, what's the price for a G7?

Likely $300. DD does not make the D5, Laing does and according to Cathar, the D5 is 'much' more quiet than the 50z.

Agreed, except for the occasional d5 that has the whine to it. That's why I mentioned the 50z, which is a very quiet pump. Have not heard any stories of it sometimes being noisy when bought. 50z to me is the best quality pump out there at the moment.

Best in terms of what? Noise? Performance? Reliability?

So did theseeker ever post back with a pic of did he get run off by the rabble rousers?

Quietest, nope but barely audible. And that a very low tone sound, not annoying at all.
Best performance, nope but second only to D5.
Reliability, excellent. Excepting the few where some folks ran them dry.
Size, a drawback. Motor housing on this thing is rather large.

But overall a top notch pump...

i don't think that he even intended to, and a pic wouldn't answer the questions that the "rabble rousers" would like to see answered, assuming that he had it built in the first place.

it's really a point of indifference to me if he did or didn't. if he had it built, it was for his own use, and i don't think that he much cares what anyone else thinks about it.

Since this thread was about water blocks I'll ask here instead of making a new thread. I bought a used Maze 4 GPU block and while the bottom is nice and shiny, there is a one inch scratch that runs down the middle of the block. It's not all that deep but it's a little more than a light surface scratch. Will this really have any effect on temps or will AS5 take care of it?

who among Hardforum members has spend the money and buy one? And does anyone knows if there is a waiting list?

i don't even know that it is yet for sale. when last cathar posted about it around here it was still in prototyping.

if your interested, fire up his home page, read through everything, then send him an e-mail inquirey.

Cathar last post was in Oct 2005, at the time, he was looking for machinest to construct his design. It's now Jan 2006, surely that's done by now. I assume someone must have bought one by now

waterblocks turn people into monsters I don't think I want to get one now

I think strong opinions are more likely what is responsible, but I can understand how you feel. However, I hardly think a waterblock would turn you into a bad person if you weren't already one.

i already know that i'm bad person.....so do most people who hang out around here.......i'm just wondering if i should *snarl* and *growl* for emphasis at this point.

Mine definately has a whining noise. I just hope when I install it in my antec p180 case on Monday I can't hear it.

I've ben using a eheim1048 that is virtually silent. However it is MUCH larger and runs on AC. It really clutters up the inside of a case.

If you get an Eheim 1046 and put in an Aquastream impeller you will get good flow, small form factor, and quietness. An alternative is to use the Aquastream pump and OC it.

While I don't disagree that the aquastream will give you good flow, big bore stuff depends alot on pressure, which is something the 1046 just really can't provide. Not enough for stuff like the Storm or MP-05, anyway.

Well obviously the G4 will do better with more flow, but Cathar has said many times that the 1046 and the Aquastream will provide sufficient flow for it to be better than the stuff he tested it against. So really it is a matter of what other variables he is looking for, which is why I suggested a nice quiet pump. :)

I hear my harddrives more than the D5 in my P180, and the harddrives are hooked up with those cool silicone grommets.
