Will you be buying Gigabyte's RAMDisk when it's available? Put me down for a probably.....once I can scrape up the money, that is.
 
Hell yes. Where is the Option for 2 of them in Raid 0?

You best beleive I will have some fast Disk access finally.

See....I'm inclined to think the same as you, but I'm not sure where the RAM will come from. A follow up question would be, how will you be getting the RAM, and how much?

I have a immense budget, so I will max both of them out with Crucial Ram from Crucial.com :)
 
If it supports ecc, i'm all over it. I have 1gb of ddr3200 ecc+reg sitting right here with no ecc-capable machines in the house.

Or I could just get a opteron board and put my current machine's ram in it... ;)
 
Don't know the specs on it, but it's pretty self-explanatory.

I'd love it. If I had the money, I'd probably have three :D
 
Considering how cheap memory price have been lately, this is the perfect time to get into this tech :D :D :D
 
Hopefully they won't cost as much as the Quantum Rushmore's did...If the price is under $200 and the performance is significantly better, I might.

Hell yes. I have 1.5 gig of PC3200 in my office waiting for this to come out. It'll be my pagefile :D
 
Yep, even if I cant afford any ram for it, it will go on the shelf for future use. This is one piece of technology that will help buy some time before I have to completely redo my computer from the ground up.
 
I'll probably skip it, unless at some point I end up with some extra ram I can't come up with a good use for. That'll most likely be registered memory though, so I have no idea if this board will support it. For now I've got 6 open slots on my mainboard I need to fill up.
 
Yup gonna buy 4 at least and slowly populate every damn slot.
$50 to $60 for the drive and Solid state..This is going to be a main drive, I'll use an old p133 with 5 pci slots or a VIA epia system as an external drive. Wait till benches come out, people will be all over this. Disk performance is the #1 bottleneck in any system.

There is almost no point in putting it into a raid 0 setup. Latency and bandwidth issues will be so non-exsistent. Even the slowest ram out these days can saturate an u320 scsi channel without breaking a sweat beyond that I doubt you'd even notice the performance difference.
 
You'd probably want 4GB to run it as an OS drive, assuming you install stuff on a different drive... 2GB would probably do a quite stripped down installation.

I think you contradicted yourself? Obviously none of us really know the exact specs of this thing, but are you saying that the whole SATA channel will be saturated by one drive? If that's the case then yes, RAID 0 won't do a thing. However, if the SATA controller can handle, say, 300mb/s (150mb/s x 2 channels), and the drive is only using the 150mb/s, then I would think RAID 0 would (theoretically) double performance.

True, but the board in question uses an SATA interface running at 150MB/s, so you'd get 300MB/s with a "raid0" setup- as long as the raid controller has a fast enough interface. (PCI-X, PCI-e, or chipset integrated) More importantly, raiding two or more would give you more space to play with. 2 boards with 4 1GB chips each would also be cheaper than one board with 4 2GB chips, as the price of 2GB modules really hurts. Of course, if you did have two of these things it would make sense to do some testing to see if raid-0 or just appending them together would be a better option to make one big volume. You might find that the controller does get saturated and no matter what you do you get 140MB/s. In that case appending would probably be better, as raid-0 typically takes more CPU time, particularly with the simple raid controllers built into mainboards or inexpensive interface cards.
