I think you contradicted yourself? Obviously none of us really know the exact specs of this thing, but are you saying that the whole SATA channel will be saturated by one drive? If that's the case then yes, RAID 0 won't do a thing. However, if the SATA controller can handle, say, 300mb/s (150mb/s x 2 channels), and the drive is only using the 150mb/s, then I would think RAID 0 would (theoretically) double performance.defakto said:There is almost no point in putting it into a raid 0 setup. True, but the board in question uses an SATA interface running at 150MB/s, so you'd get 300MB/s with a "raid0" setup- as long as the raid controller has a fast enough interface. (PCI-X, PCI-e, or chipset integrated) More importantly, raiding two or more would give you more space to play with. 2 boards with 4 1GB chips each would also be cheaper than one board with 4 2GB chips, as the price of 2GB modules really hurts. Of course, if you did have two of these things it would make sense to do some testing to see if raid-0 or just appending them together would be a better option to make one big volume. You might find that the controller does get saturated and no matter what you do you get 140MB/s. In that case appending would probably be better, as raid-0 typically takes more CPU time, particularly with the simple raid controllers built into mainboards or inexpensive interface cards.defakto said:There is almost no point in putting it into a raid 0 setup.
