RAGE videos (from E3)

Pretty amazing if it is a 360, impressive work. I'm not normally an id fan, but the do build a great engine.

I have been waiting for rage since last year. I am pretty excited about it. I was wondering if it was still in the works.

It seems that id is taking their time getting this one out. It's been pushed back to 2011.

I'm excited to see how this new engine does, especially with the advance MegaTexture.

Very Impressive looking. This Twisted Metal and Fallout New Vegas are my top picks for E3.

The graphics are nice. But the gameplay was blah. I need to see more.

You have no idea how close I am to buying a PS3 just for Twisted Metal. I grew up on that series and have some extremely fond memories.

Incredible visuals. Can't wait to see this shit with the visuals cranked up to the max on a PC.

Did that guy really just say ID is known for making incredible environments and stunning worlds?

The game does look pretty damn good though.

This looks better than I thought it would! But will it still be modable? With the giant megatexture engine I can see that being hard, even if it is the FO3/Oblivion people. Also, will the old ID tech finally get released to make games with? I miss the days of quake 3 engined independant games! Just with mainstream game visual technology not really going anywhere fast, the DOOM3 engine still looks fairly modern.

You mean with more particles/HDR/bloom and fancy blurring on the edges of stuff???

But seriously, I'm going to need more GPUs.

I would expect the PC version to have higher quality textures on top of the other things you mentioned.

Yes. Tim Willits says in the video that it will ship with the game editors. The "unmoddable" stuff comes from 2008. It looks long resolved.

It does look incredible, even on the 360. I'll want the PC version.

I really don't see how this is any different than boderlands or bioshock. I mean they copied the electric bolt in the water to fry all enemies from bioshock...

Instances like that have been in games since DOS days.

I saw this live at the show today.

Guys, in person it looks SO MUCH BETTER than those videos. :)

Its insane, it is the only time I've seen such a consistently high level of visual fidelity combined with zero stuttering, slow down, and no change in framerate. Its kind of amazing. The fact that it did this on a 360 is even more amazing. It will be spectacular on PC, I just hope its fun. I don't expect it to be anywhere close to Portal 2 in that department, but whatever, sometimes you just have to shoot stuff.

Its just the giant megatextures that look like the need some serious work to mod. I mean, it's not going to be a level editing friendly. You mess up the alignment of something on a 230mp texture.

Unless they invented electricity and its relationship with water, its hardly original. And what was that gun in quake? I dont see how bioshock are borderlands are any different from wolfenstein, I mean they both are fps.

Looks extremely good, especially considering the video was extremely low res, and it was running on the 360. Probably because of the baked in lighting, but if I can't tell the difference, then I don't care.

Some things I'd like to see before release on either all platforms or just pc if it's the only one that can handle it:

For the love of god id, please don't take up the gears of war style blood spatter. It just looks awful. I want at least semi-realistic blood spatter.

It looked as though the guns didn't have a lot of "weight" to them. Mutant or not, more than 3 rounds to the face from an AK should not leave you standing. This is not helped by the blood spatter effect they're using.

The water coming from the pipes in the mission vid looked like shit. I think I saw better water effects on my xbox. Do it right or don't do it at all id.

All that being said the game looks phenomenal. I felt as though the enemies were running on an actual surface rather than a 2d painting. I don't know if that is just from the awesome animations or something to do with the megatexure gloopity glop they're always talking about, but it looked great.

They look nothing alike.
By your logic iD could call and ask for the FPS genre back :/

Yes, id gets so much shit from people, yet those same people are too young to remember that they single-handedly crafted the genre as we know it. Give a little respect?

wasn't rage announced before borderlands was even in development?

Yes, id had this IP in the works before borderlands.

And and cannot wait for the new IP. RAGE looks really great and I know it'll be a great game! Interestingly enough, DOOM 4 will be running the same engine at 30fps with 3 x the fidelity - that'll look insane!

now Bethesda can make an awesome elder scrolls game based on this tech, that would be so great, no tile sets, completely unique geometry everywhere, be a lot easier to hide buttons for secret doors and such and make exploring so much more rewarding

hrmm apparently g4tv web server is down, i like how they didnt set a default redirect page in case of errors...

LOL, you can mess up the alignment on a 256x256 texture. There is more to the coordinates than (0,0). The texture mapping is just different (using virtual coordinates) for geometry. It's not a single texture laid across the world in one piece. :p

Take a look at the Rage gallery here to see how textures are put into the "megatexture": http://www.pcgameshardware.com/&menu=browser&mode=article&image_id=1172192&article_id=692157&page=1 That pic shows typical textures and the terrain pics show a really huge texture. The problem isn't going to be a misalignment, it's going to be generating the terrain and making a detailed enough megatexture to cover it so it looks good. The editors included should help with that.

looks like a quality game :) The graphics look exceptional for a x360 demonstration (I only have a PC, It will probably be much sweeter on it), the world looks very immersive (post-apocalyptic is always great when pulled of correctly) and the gameplay looks fuuuun

geez iD needs to hire more developers, this is taking them forever

I can't wait for this game. Will be in my list of games to watch. I do like the RC cars with C4 though :D
