p.s. me and Cedric Battlewind are still in this race. You have about 1,000 points on me. We were even this morning... you must have dumped some good points today.

Nice job rook.....and the rest of you guys too......some of you guys really stepped it up a notch..
I was hoping to place a little better, but the competition was too heavy for me..

We put up some nice points for the cause this last weeks....and thats the important part....:)

r00k dear, if you read this (and you had better), call me before you depart. Albiet only slightly, plans have changed.

Thank you, everybody. [H]Oldbenwa, i admit you kept me in suspense all the way to this morning. I'm getting ready to leave work, so i'll be postin later this evening.

Viper has decided to keep the 1950pro and give you his 9200 instead. But at least you still get a card.

On another note Stanford is going to be down untill Noon PST.

In my documentation, I have:

  • 66 Pentium 4's
  • 54 Pentium 4 HT's
  • 7 Celeron's
  • 4 Xeon HT's
  • 2 Xeon DC's
  • 1 Core2 Duo
  • 2 Opteron X2's
  • 2 Athlon64 X2's
  • 4 Athlon 64's
  • 2 Athlon XP's

The combined total processing power documented is 378.90 Gigahertz, with an estimated Points Per Day of 14,822.41 (using formula XXXGhz * 1.63 * 24). I am aware that there are a 3 or 4 b0rgs from a long time ago somewhere still in existence, and that yesterday, approximately 4 more processors were added for good measure ;) , though they were not documented.

Regarding my b0rgs and their whereabouts:

I began b0rging Wednesday evening. One of my client's is a local forest preserve, and after speaking to the lady in charge, explaining to her about folding, i showed her stanford's folding site. She noticed they are working towards understanding Parkinson's Disease, which held a special meaning for her, as she had lost someone close due to Parkinsons. She agreed that I could fold on all machines in the preserve, for the month of November, after which time she would let me know whether they wanted to continue or not. 40.65 ghz there.

The next day, i happened to stop by another client, a doctors business, which specializes in making custom orthopedic appliances. I explained to the Doctor about folding for the cure, showed him the site, and he also agreed to allow all his machines to fold for November. 13.2 ghz there.

On my own, i began a farm in my bedroom. Aside from leaving my rig in sig on 24/7, i claimed 5 other boxes personally. Temperatures in my room actually rose several degrees F, and it was getting rather loud, so they moved into my closet, with just cat 5 and power, +RDP. 15.32 ghz here.

I also got a law firm, a client who is close to me, to put 2 boxes on last week. 2x 3.2 ghz boxes, a contribution nonetheless.

Meanwhile:

One of the forum members here, whom i have sorta taken under my wing to teach as much as i can about computers, and whom i more or less consider like a little brother, had never heard of folding. I thought it would be fun to bring him on board. So i said, "I'll make you a deal. Youre trying to build a nice gaming rig, and i know you don't have the cash for a new graphics card. Help me fold, involve as many of your friends and whoever else you can get to fold for my name, (i did explain the rules of legitimate b0rging etc. too), and if i win, i will give you a really good deal on my x1800xt pe".

So off our young crusader went. Among other b0rgs placed under his name, he and i went and volunteered at a recycling drive, in the process acquiring 6 fully functional pc's to eventually be fixed up and donated to his church youth group. he fixed them all up, and set them up in another section of his basement (one section is his bedroom area) to fold 24/7. All in all, he had 25.45 ghz goin 24/7

In total that brings us to 105.02 ghz. Using the formula, that yields us a PPD Estimate of 4108.3824. Which is what i averaged all the way into friday.

By this time, [H]Oldbenwa's 13 Core2Duo ASSKICKERS (and 10 unknowns) were wiping the floor with us all, and leaving the school bell ringing in our ears. Little did he, i, or anyone know, a much louder school bell was about to sound off.

A good friend of mine, also a forum member, and also a person whom has never folded under any name ever, and i were having a little chat through gmail chat. I told him about the contest, and how i was b0rging and pushing to get all that i could. It was roughly Tuesday the 7th, and folding was well on its way, benwa pulling hard. He said he would consider adding a few. Alright, awesome, every bit helps. I asked him to keep them all documented. Wednesday, he sent me 8.8 ghz total. good deal. Thursday he gave me an updated list, which now included a couple threads on his Xeon HT servers. With [H]Oldbenwa swinging a 16,000 point gap, it was definitely going to be an uphill battle.

It was Friday the 10th, and plans for adding b0rgs were few and lax. I get a call about 10:00pm "Hey man what you up to.... mind if i swing by?" Sure. So he gets here, we hang out for a bit, helped Dad out for a bit etc. And then he says, "so do you think you have a chance?" My honest answer was "well, yes, i am not giving up, but the odds are really high against me at this point. And so d4rk1c3 says to me, "lets take a little trip".

Now, there's something you should know about D4RK1C3. He, is the network administrator and technology coordinator for an entire school district. Previously, i have tried to get him to fold on those machines, but due to cpu lifespan concerns and whatnot, he has been unwilling. But Friday night, he says, "let's take a trip".

So at 11:30 pm through 3:30 am, we set about b0rging a huge chunk of multiple buildings in his school district, opening doors he had keys to, acquiring the all access keys that he did not yet have, and opening up the last 2 rooms (which had 7 2.8's), using... alternative methods. To me, the midnight b0rging of an entire school district, was the stuff of legends. I documented our totals, charted it all out etc. The hardest part, was waiting until the point dump.

By Monday it came, like a fist from the heavens, it came. However, it went unnoticed on the stats page due to 7 day averaging. But Ben must have sensed a disturbance in the Force. He added processors over the weekend. And by Monday, he had also ramped. One day, over 11,000 points. It really made me wonder. Was he equally ramping and going to match me? It definitely had me worried.

Hopefully, through this all i have been humble enough. I have enjoyed striving my way to the top, and am looking forward to watching the sub-contest unfold (no pun intended). Erasmus, good luck. You have only a few weeks to pull ahead of these guys ;)

Fantastic story r00k. Driving around at midnight on a Friday to set up borgs is truely [H] and worthy of the card.

So.... AtomicMoose really didn't have this rigged from last February?

:D

hey Ice

I'm nipping at your heels!

I dunno I cant hear a damn thing in this room, between folding and setting up a webcam to spy on my dog while i'm at work, so many fans. and hotter than hell as well.

But I know what you mean, I hope the little family we created doesn't just disapear.

I had to remove some of my borgs after only a week of running, so I lost 8 P4 3.0-3.2ghz machines, but I have just fired up 3 Compaq DL380's each with 2x 3.06ghz Xeon's so hopefully that will make up for it...

long post....

And so goes the biggest reason I have been rooting for young r00k all along. Not that the rest of you did not deserve it, but I knew the story of just how much effort he was putting into this. He put a ton of work and a ton of hours into finding as many borgs as possible. He worked his ass off, and I truly believed he deserved to win, even when the odds weren't in his favor.

Oh... that... and cheap shipping :D

When Rook told me about getting the school Borgs I was kind of Pissed. Not because he was getting them or because I though I would never have a chance of winning but because now that he told me I had to keep quiet about it and I could not post when I saw his CPU count shooting up. I think whoever won would have deserved it. Half of the competitors now have average PPD rates of over 1000 and as a group our PPD has increased 265%.

Unless everyone pulls the plug after the race is over..... Oldbenwa - why are you not producing anymore?

The bigger they are, the harder they fall. The downside of my b0rging, is that a large portion of my b0rgs must sooner or later be returned to their previous idle (read lazy barely-working deadbeat ) states. Although i really wish i could keep them all going, compromises had to be made. As stated earlier on, the forest preserve and the orthopedic business are on all of november, hopefully december, but thats all that is guaranteed. the school district has already been cut off, i believe. On the other hand, the cause has benefited greatly ( i hope ) for all the time they have worked, and i know i have several b0rgs that will remain folding indefinitely.

In other business, Ben why have you stopped turning in units? I don't want to sound like an ass, but it would be good to know.

I apologize if my request caused you frustration. See, in my view an important part of any contest, is the psychology of it all. That is, don't let the other players see your cards. Namely, [H]Oldbenwa. At the point in time which i had acquired the school district, I knew i would need all the time i could get, and if i let on that i had a huge ramp in store, I honestly felt that he had access to a LOT more power sitting around if he needed it (".. work computers" ).

My current mission: "Operation Catch BLUEFISH"

I hear they put up quite a fight once you hook them ;)
