i have a evga E760 Classified mobo so i can support 3 cards just letting that known

I want to have 5 monitors, purely for work.. here is the question.

Currently i got a 4650 ATI card. from what i know this can support 2 monitors ( 3 monitors would be 5000 series ) a card only?

if i want to have 2 more monitors what would i need? another 4650? totaling 4 monitors.

also a another question, how many monitors can you have with a single gtx 580. is it possible to have 3?

Assuming you are running windows 7, just get another cheap GPU and you will be golden. You can mix and match NV/AMD -- it won't matter under windows 7. You will not be able to push 3 monitors off of a single gtx 580. A 5xxx/6xxx series can push 3, but you have to have a displayport monitor or an adapter. If you are using this for non-graphic related work there is no reason to put an expensive GPU in -- just find one laying around or grab one really cheap and pop it in.
 
Most of the cards that support 3 or 4 monitors usually are dual slot. Make sure that your mobo/case/PSU can accommodate it
 
Normal Radeons, the HD4650 included, can support a maximum of two.
The GTX580 can support a maximum of two.
The HD5000 and HD6000 series can support two plus however many displayport devices you have. If you don't own any displayport monitors you will need either a multi-out device like a Matrox Triplehead2Go, or just get a second basic card, like an HD5450.
 
That only ponits toward a massive advantage of AMD integrated chipsets. Since the 785G a business user can drive 2 monitor from the MOBO plus how amny the video card can support, since on AMD mobos the integrated video is not disabled when you plug a VGA.

the cost reduction is also paired with lower power consumption and heat generation, something very important in a room with dozens of PCs.

Cannot Intel chipsets do this, too? Or do those forcibly disable the GPU while another GPU is in use??
 
I've had to do some research into this as of late too. Here is what I found:
Sapphire 5650? Flex Definitely Just work smaller monitors
Sapphire 5770 Flex Purely work
Sapphire 6870 Flex Work and play
 
Eyefinity 6 cards can do 6 monitors. Cost is around $260 for the Sapphire model from Newegg. Since you are doing 2D only there are a number of options that a number of people are not aware of that are single slot PCI-E solutions and some are PCI solutions. MATROX has a number of 4port cards both in the pci-e and pci variety(look on ebay/craigslist otherwise they are pricey). AMD and Nvidia also have FireGL and NVS branded cards that are enterprise oriented for business and CAD work. New from a dealer they also will cost you, but again look on Ebay or craigslist.
