PubG Corp's new snow themed map is out on PC today. The 6x6km battleground is set in a snowy, "isolated Northern resort island in the shadow of Mount Kreznic." The developers also introduced a slew of changes and features with the new map, including a new assault rifle, balance changes, and a new season pass and coupon system. Be sure to check out the full release notes.

Watch the "Vikendi" gameplay trailer here.

We feel Vikendi is a mixture of all the best parts of our previous maps and we can’t wait to hear your feedback. But that's not everything coming in this patch! We’re also introducing two brand new items exclusive to the map; the G36C Assault Rifle (which replaces the SCAR on Vikendi) and the Snowmobile to navigate its icy terrain. We've also completed an overhaul to our in-game replay system, putting you in the director's chair to edit clips, create 3D camera movements, and export your work so show the world your best PUBG productions! Coming later in the patch is our overhaul to the Parachuting system, which allows you to glide or dive during freefall, improves animations, and also lets you cut your chute before hitting the ground.

Still haven't played PUBG's. I figure I'm getting too old to have any success at this kind of game.

Still, it looks like a hell of a lot of fun.

I do not have any chicken dinners under my belt (been close), but I do enjoy the game in squad gameplay with friends and coworkers. Get a couple hours over the weekend, grab a few beers, jump on with them and just gave a good time.

Maybe I should try playing it again.

I played it for a bit under the Steam Early Access release, late last summer when there was only one map.

When I first started playing it, there was only a third person mode, which I found rather lame, because players could hide behind walls and look over them at the same time. Really killed it for me, so I shut it down uninstalled it, and thought I wasnt going to play it again. A few weeks after I got it they added a forced first person mode. When I heard of this, I decided to install it and play it again, as the 3rd person "cheating" was my biggest gripe with the original. Now it was actually a pretty fun game.

I played it for two or three weeks in single player mode. Got myself 3 or 4 chicken dinners and then kind of got tired of it. There was only one map at the time, and while fun it grew old over time.

While the whole "Battle Royale" mode concept is completely unrealistic and requires a good deal of suspense of disbelief, I really liked the tactical aspect of it with guns that actually behaved similar to the real thing, rather than just being a run-and-gun nonsense game.

A couple of months ago I signed back on for the first time in a year, because my stepson asked me to play with him. We did a two person team mode. It was still fun, but something just felt wrong. I think they nerfed the graphics of the game or something, in order to make it appeal more to those playing on marginal hardware. That was a shame.

Anyway, with this addition, there are - what - 3 maps now? Maybe I should try it again. I might enjoy it.

I just need to finish my Dying Light binge first. I don't even like the zombie genre, and this game is totally sucking me in. I'm 15% through the story and already have 30 hours in it. That's value! And it hasn't even remotely gotten old yet.

Nonsense! Play in squad mode, most of the guys that I talk to when queuing up with random squads are fun to play with and you'll eventually get some chicken dinners when you put some hours into it.

I can only recall one guy that talked a lot of smack for some reason when our squad died out of 1K+ hours on the game lol.

I’m in my 30s and play this. Get a few chicken dinners almost every night that I sign on. I have a good squad I play with...never too old my friend.

Well, unlike games like CS or the Call of Modern Battlefield titled, PUBG is a little more "tactical" in nature, so it is less dependent on being fast and twitxhy if you play your strategy right.

Yeah - still comes in handy to have those skills when you are caught off guard - but overall you are right. Helps to have a good team and clear communication is key.

New map has definitely brought new life to the game. Only one I play for now.

If it looks fun to you, you gotta play PUBG or Blackout. PUBG is probably better suited for you if you’re a patient player. Also get a lightweight ambidextrous mouse and adjust your grip to it. 25+ years of PC gaming and that made the biggest difference for me.

This makes a total of 4 maps. Erengel (the original large 8x8 map), Miramar (second map, large 8x8 desert map), Sanhok (small 4x4 jungle map), and Vikendi (medium, 6x6 snow map).

Honestly they did a great job with Vikendi as far as map design goes. I don't like that Level 3 helmets are a world spawn on Vikendi, really makes bolt action snipers less impactful. Only other bad thing is the loot seems very wonky, not sure if it is intentional. LOTS of SMGs, tons of DMR/SR weapon parts but actually finding a DMR or SR to put them on is difficult. Played a bunch on test, had a 10 kill chicken last night, overall I really like the map.

Game is ok but overrated. It can go from being a momentary thrill of hiding and shooting to being an arduous waste of time spending 20 minutes picking up "loot", gearing your character up, getting all the nice guns and all the ammo for it...and then getting one shot in the head and losing it all thereby wasting all that time for nothing...and it is extremely common to happen too.

Lmao I hate that. That’s every battle Royale game though. Gotta change your play style to limit that happening, that’s all.

    That's PUBG's main underlying issue....

    That IS the gameplay-style.

Pubg does need more play styles a 50v50 would be cool. Imagine a death match (teams or solo) style game where the a whole map the size of Sanhok or sectioned off with re spawn and high score wins after time or limit reached

Ya if you aren't aggressive it turns into a looting simulator for sure. And being aggressive at the start of a match can be super RNG.

Agreed on the lack of DMR's. Suppressors everywhere but no guns to put them on.

IMHO, that's the good part of the game. It makes the loss more palpable and the victory more sweet when you have something to lose.

I love PUBG but they could tone down the head-shot meta. About 60% of all the damage in the game comes from head-shots, something less than 10% of your body area.

I play the mobile version in first person mode (FPP). Now I regret after reaching certain tier. Matchmaking is a PITA - 30 minutes is normal. With the recently announced update, I haven't got any matchmaking for 5 days despite hours of waiting. I'm only at Platinum and can't climb higher anymore due to zero match. For third person mode (TPP), matchmaking is done in 10 seconds. It's sky and earth difference. The player base of FPP is too small. Express my rant in reddit and someone told me to swallow it up and jump ship to TPP.
Now that there's a sale in Steam, I'm wondering if I should buy the game and play in FPP (which I will regret later?).

For me it's what I find irritating about the game. Spending all that time gearing up, only for it to come to an anticlimactic end and completely waste your time with nothing to show for it.

Some people find that fun, I find it irritating. A lot of matches I don't even get a single shot off before I die (granted I suck ass at the game).

Isn't that the whole point of going for a headshot? How many bullets should someone be able to take to the face without dying?

The point is your head is a tiny target (especially with any range) yet gets hit exceedingly often.

Is it really that the head is hit so much more often, or is it just that the head has a pretty large damage multiplier over the body?

Because I feel like this is the case in pretty much every game. I'm betting head damage percentage would be more balanced if shots to center mass from a high powered rifle did as much damage as they do in the real world.
