PS5 Release Window Officially Announced

I don't get it why does anyone buy a new console on release? At least wait until there are at least two worthy AAA titles on it :D

This was my stance on the PS4 and why I didn't get one until Uncharted 4 came out, which was worth the price of the console alone for me at least knowing Lost Legacy was coming too and other worthy exclusives. I traded that for my Pro when Horizon came out and got a 4K TV in a bundle deal with it.

For the PS5, I'm basically getting at launch just to play some enhanced PS4 exclusives that I haven't played yet like Ghosts, Spiderman, and Bloodborne if it can be enhanced at all or at least stabilize the frame rate, and also to replay some other titles at 4K/60 hopefully like TLoU 2, Uncharted 4, and maybe Horizon too if it doesn't go on sale before then for $30 or less on PC.

Some new consoles have launched with amazing titles on day 1. The Xbox 360 did. The PS2 did. Most everything back in the 80's and 90's did.
We've seen a boatload of trailers for new games for both MS and Sony, so maybe we'll have that again. It might be overly optimistic, but it's possible. Plus if the new consoles have backward compatibility, you can still play your older games and you'll never see a higher price for selling your old one. It's never going to be the most frugal option, but it's not that tough to justify.

Why do grown adults go to disney world? There a certain excitement that takes me back to my childhood when i get a new console on release date, so i'll definitely be getting one. The switch release wasn't to shabby at all.

I'll be getting one no sooner than GT7 comes out, or TLOU3, whichever comes first. I'm not buying one for HZD2. If I have to wait 5 years for it to be on PC I'd rather wait 5 years.

What about the next God of War?

That's what got me to buy a PS3.
If I don't have a PS5 by the time they announce God of War, I'll get one once it's announced.

With this covid shit, i haven't been able to travel or do anything really. I'm just piling money, sony come take it from me.

Meh, not my cup of tea. Really not a fan of these supernatural themes. That's part of why I can't stand Kojima.

One case for buying things ASAP that rarely gets mentioned is the community factor. It doesn't really matter as much with single players games, but it's a huge deal with online-focused games. Communities for most games tend to dry up quickly. You might not find anyone else to play with/against or even discuss the game with. If it's a competitive game, you might hop in and get mauled because everyone has months of practice and a bunch of discovered tech. You can save money by waiting, but the lifespan of many games isn't that long and you can't go back once something is "old."

Vastly different games than anything Kojima does, I'm also not into Kojima's stuff, and think all of his games are overrated.

Anyway, God of War is more fantasy than supernatural, if you haven't played the latest one, at least rent it and give it a go, or borrow it from someone.

If you have played it, well, at least you gave it a try.

Zero Fs given here about multiplayer especially on console. I'd only wait until an interesting game comes out anyway, not longer, so the game would still be new. And I'd rather not get first batch HW. Let others deal with mfg issues.

I know it's different than kojima games, but you literally play a god, there is nothing more supernatural than that. I like grounded games where the rules are clear and based on reality even if loosely.
Is there a playable demo? I'd be willing to try that. But definitely not buying it blind, even used.

I don't know if there's a demo, at work and haven't looked, that's why I said rent or borrow though, before paying for it.

If the lore is what's holding you back from a game though, it's not as "supernatural" as you think. The latest game is actually pretty grounded for a fantasy game. The prior installments were more out there.

The gameplay is a mix of The Last of Us and Horizon: Zero Dawn, the latest one anyway.

It's third person, you have a bladed weapon or bow, and yes, you're a "god," but you can die.

At the end of the day though, you know what games you like, just like I know what kind of games I like.

I'm very excited for the next one, whenever it will be, just like I'm equally excited for the next Naughty Dog game.

There is no renting option for games here.
I've seen trailers, and there is really no hook for me in this game. I'm not saying it's bad, I'm just not interested.
Watched some gameplay, and that didn't change my mind either. Seemed like 90% walking and talking with barely any action.

Well some would prolly make that (bad) assumption about TLoU 2 as well after seeing some short gameplay vids on Youtube. Having played both games, God of War has MUCH more action in it than TLoU 2, but yes it does use the same technique that a lot of story-driven games do nowadays where they do a lot of dialog while still traversing the game.

FWIW too, having played all of the God of Wars, this last one is MUCH more toned down than the previous games in terms of leaning on a lot of over-the-top supernatural enemies/bosses and settings and it's much more palatable and slower paced for those who would otherwise dislike that stuff too IMO.

Personally, I don't care much for the Japanese Samurai setting and lore either, but I still try to play the games that look worthy of playing in those settings like Nioh and Ghosts and have been pleasantly surprised by them still and think they're worth trying at least.

I actually watched the 18 hours full game walktrough. Of course not all of it, but I had very little luck finding actual combat in it. I'm not judging the game, I just don't care for the setting and the plot.
Plus I'm really not fan of this type of hero either. Kratos seems very similar to Geralt. The acts like an ahole, but actually good guy trope really doesn't sit well with me.
Ghosts of Tsutsima seems hell of a lot more interesting comparatively even if that setting is very far off the beaten path for me as well.

I get that, there was quite a bit of traveling in the game, which gave me plenty of opportunity to get good screenshots. I can't really compare Kratos to Geralt, as I've only barely played the first Witcher, and I grew up with the GoW franchise, so I'm a bit biased to liking it.

I'll get Ghost of Tsushima eventually, I think I'm going to give the PS4 a break and start working on my PC backlog. I have Quantum Break, Dishonored 2, and a handful of other games collecting dust.

I don't expect them to answer this any time soon, but I'd love to know if the PS5 controller will work with their wireless PC dongle.

White router faceplates seem to be detachable which it would finally put those gaudy vinyl stickers in the trash. You could get a cool camouflage router or something or a different color.

I'm not a fan of the design to say the least. The PS4 PRO Fits in very well in any room, it's unassuming looking. This is just too flashy and tacky to be a part of any proper living room.

Of minor note, I remember when Microsoft went with a similar idea for the Xbox 360. But I think by the time the Elite released they’d moved away from the removable faceplates.

So I’m not sure how well this customization idea will sell.

Since I'm flashy and tacky I can't wait to have this in my room!

there's a lot of exclusives I'm interested in- Demon's Souls, Spider Man 2...plus I haven't played Ghost of Tsushima, LoU2, God of War etc...well worth it on Day 1

I'm sure they wanted to be able to price the PS5 at $450/$550+ for the digital/disk consoles, but I didn't see MS going for those price points and therefore Sony either and still expect them to launch at $400/$500 as most have for the past several weeks.

You must have a boring living room.

I favor black electronics myself. Those weird phases where 1/2 the industry was making silver-colored equipment annoyed me to no end. Microsoft keeps trying to make white happen, but they're also apt to bail on it and go back to black without warning, too.

Aesthetically, I always liked the PlayStation 2. The PS3's looked wonky and oblong. The 4 hides all the buttons and functionality needlessly. The PS5 is pretty ugly IMO, but maybe the white shells will be removable or (better yet) replaceable.

Demon's Souls looks pretty incredible. When can we pre-buy these damned systems, anyway? All of this buildup is going to make getting one a bigger pain in the ass.

Live now.

Final Fantasy 16 was a surprise. I like how they are going back to midevil setting but I have zero hope for it given Yoshi P. from FF14 is I charge of it. I got FFxiv vibes from the begining. Honestly the trailer didn't even look that good.

I didn't even know about 16. Hopefully it will be good.

Smart presentation, no BS, no silly stuff. Everyone is just waiting to see when we can preorder this bad boy. ;)

I know I'm late to the question asking party, but have they explicitly announced KB/M control on PS5?

That was a clever way to end this. I was like "Oh wow no way."

I knew a new one was in the works, they said that the reason this one took so long, was they built everything from scratch. But now that they have an established engine and assets, they'll pump them out quicker.

I'm stoked, God of War 3 sold me on the PS3. I went to PS4 for Uncharted. God of War is my main reason to get the PS5.

They never disappoint with their exclusives. I'm in as soon as I can.
