PS3 camping update

I live in Iowa and drove up to kmart last year on the 360 launch day 30 minutes before open and was the first one in line. The store got 10 prems., 2 core, and by opening there was a total of 8 people in line. Small lines/short wait times aren't inconceivable in rural areas, although I don't think this launch is going to get by anyone.

Slightly on-topic, but does anyone remember that video floating around during the 360 launch that showed some dumb ass who was driving away at launch with his 360, gloating to the crowd of on lookers, and it fell out of his car and some guy picked it up and ran away with it? Man that killed me :D

I found something very similar but nobody stole it... And it was an empty box.

I was going to try to see if I could get one of the empty wii boxes that are at toys r us and try to have some fun with it. I was thinking about putting some dog poop in it and setting it on my roomate's bed... :D

Any word on how Bestbuy is going to be selling these???

If I dont get one at Walmart, when does Bestbuy start selling them?

Best Best, the No. 1 electronics retailer, will open its stores earlier than usual at 8:00 a.m. for the PS3 launch.

However, Best Buy is holding midnight openings at about 18 stores locations nationwide for PS3, including in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Minneapolis.

She explained that these stores will use a "ticket" system. Given the limited quantity, the first few customers in line are more likely to get a ticket to purchase a PS3.

Circuit City isn't allowing consumers to pre-order the systems on its Web site, either.

Similar to Best Buy, the No. 2 seller of gadgets and gizmos is holding "Game on at midnight" events at six locations for the PS3 debut, including its store in Union Square, New York, the Torrance store in Los Angeles, Cherry Hill store in Philadelphia, and the Short Pump store in Richmond, Virginia, said company spokesman Jim Babb.

The event gets underway at 9:00 p.m on Nov. 16 at those locations. At 10:00 p.m., Circuit City will give out vouchers to the first 100 people in line. At midnight, anyone with a voucher can buy the new PS3.

If you didn't make the cut, Babb said the retailer has another trick up its sleeve. Circuit City will give away five PS3s at five of the locations and an additional 100 units in New York to winners of a special drawing.

When will Best Buy give out the tickets? At 8, when they open?
Probably a few hours before, or perhaps even the night before. They will not wait til opening. They will also make sure everyone in line knows how many there are.

Good, maybe they'll go and get a life now.
Something tells me the chances of that happening are very low.

To get on-topic. If you are in a cold area, find a 24-hr wal-mart and camp inside. Warmer, and you get your PS3 sooner even though you might have to wait longer and start earlier. I may be wrong, but I think wal-mart is also getting the largest allotment.

They are, but they also have the most stores as well, which could mean less units per store than say a best buy.

I am glad I live in the midwest and have family to go to the small town walmart... Hopefully they can pick up one...

i'm gonna have real problems with my faith in humanity if i dont get a ps3 after camping for 30 hours before release

seriously.

I'm with you man. After what happened with my Toys R' Us fiasco, I decided i'm going to be in front of Circuit City after I get off work at 5 p.m. on Wendsday.

any one know the camping update in Southern Cali. It must be hard down here since the population is crazy. ne one know how many units the stores here are getting.

I'm just going to wait a few months or more till the furor dies down enough till i can walk in and pick one up. Will give it time to mature a bit. :)

Socal you're going to have a loooooong wait.
No shortage of people willing to go the distance, especially when it's still nice out.
Wherever you plan to camp, I'd start doing drive bys no later than 36 hours in advance.
Once 3-4 people are in line it's time to saddle up.

Heard only 200,000 being shipped to the US now and wal-mart may be getting none to little now.

First I've heard... I'd expect news like that to be all over the place.

and i heard the moon may crash into the sun next week.

WHERE did you hear this? because anyone who thinks walmart (and their 3,000+ retail locations) is getting little to no PS3s has no fucking clue what they are talking about. if anyone has them, walmart will.

I can just see the Walmart reaction.

No problem Sony, you can cut our launch allocation. Oh, by the way did I tell you that we have been discussing perhaps not selling PS3 games?

I would like to know where you heard that as well. Your information is only going to be as good as your source. Sony might be arrogant, but thery wouldn't dare mess with Walmart. Remember a few years ago when Walmart demanded better deals from the recording industry? Needless to say, they didn't dare think twice about rejecting Walmart's need.

I heard it also..Some Bestbuy's and Walmart's are saying that they dont know how many they are going to have now. That corporate said they aren't going to be receiving the 10 or 20 alotment that they were given. It is on alot of sites like Slickdeals.net or fatwallet.com ...etc...I will try and find the link to it.

I'd also like to see the source. We know that *Gamestop/EBGames* got their shipments cut in half (how many of those campers are hating on Sony right now, I wonder? Already did their camping and they're *still* fucked over), but I haven't seen anything about other retailers.

Not that it would *surprise* me, of course, but I'd like to see it from a reputable source :)

My friend and I are going to camp outside BB. He's going to be there at 6 A.M on Thursday, and i'm catching up with after night school.

YAY I CAN'T WAIT!

Too late, you lose. I'm in line right now...

Yeah it's suppose to rain here now too. My original plan was to get to the store around 3pm wednesday, but the rain may change that...

Well I called my 3 walmarts and strangely enough 2 of them mentioned that they might possibly not even be sure how many they are getting now because of shortages. I am planning on camping with my wife and this is not good news. Hopefully we'll see something official regarding this.

LISTEN you jerks crying for a source!!!

I went to wal-mart and at the entrance on a small piece of paper they are saying our store might do a 7am sale on THURSDAY they are expecting to get 10 PS3s

Also the manager told me the shipments are cut in half for pretty much all stores and also...all you EBAYers good luck getting a PS3 with shipments cut in half :)
