God I can't wait to pay off this car, then start saving up for MINE.

Well when I first installed WHS I was having some issues with network speed, connectivity and DNS...well some of those i worked out but it just was not acting right. So today I did a reinstallation of WHS and now everything works. Im not sure what went wrong the first time but w/e it works now.

I will say that Doing the Reinstallation was extremely easy. I didn't backup any of my data to other drives or anything. I just put the CD in and did a reinstall. It preserved all my data and my backups. All of my settings and programs were gone but that is to be expected. All in all a real easy fix just wish I had done it sooner.

Hey how did you mount your DVD rom. I have the same one same case, can't figure out what to mount it too...super glue

Ok there is a bracket that screws into the side of the dvd drive....then it slides into the slot. Its kind of weird and isnt really secure but then again its a server and doesnt get much dvd use.

comes with the case, there is 4 of them , 2 types, 2 brackets of each kind.

Holy crap, and to think they were just wasting metal....Going back to that old box of parts never even crossed my mind...thats funny. Thanks for the help

Hey, nitrobass24

How does the Adaptec AAR-2810SA/21610 work with Windows Home Server, are you just creating pass through drives and letting WHS take care of it..?? If so, how is JBOD drive speed with the card in a PCI-X slot?

Jbod speed is good its not the fastest ive seen but is plenty fast for streaming HD content to multiple computers and MCE's in the house at the same time. Id recommend it to anyone for aJBOD WHS setup over those supermicro 8 port controllers. Dont put your boot drive on there though cause WHS installer cannot see the drives...I tired the drivers for w2k3 but the WHS installer is a little finicky sometimes. Once i had it installed i added the card updated to the win2k3 drivers and installed the mgt software and was up in running.

Have you ever had the Supermicro's to compare? Or were you just taking cost and size?? I thought that the speed of the Supermicro's was pretty damn good when I was using them back in the day... The other thing that I guess I was wondering, is can you remove or add a JBOD drive without erasing data that is existing, I know the newer Adaptec controllers are not like the Areca where a JBOD drive does not do anything to the drive other then pass it though... IIRC, odditory, was saying that he has issues with JBOD on his dual core Adaptec deleting partitions on drives once put into JBOD....

Cost and size...ive never had them but they dont do anything other than add ports and they are pci-x like this controller. so really you end up being limited by the bus because the PCI-x and pci slots all share the same bus its not like pci-e where they have there own lanes.

I dont really understand your second question?? you mean if I were to just go pull the drive out right now and plug it into another computer would i be able to see and use my data?

Well I ordered some 21u Rack Rails from StarCase so I can build my own homemade server cabinet so hopefully these will show up this week and I can build it this weekend.

Stay tuned for Pics

Yea I got mine and I really like them

Im still building the rack...its a work in progress but im almost done

And yea they are a good business.

Well I have had some upgrades, and I thought I would share.

I have swapped the mobo to a MSI p6n Diamond, I did this because I wanted some x16 pcie expansion slots for graphics cards(F@H).
I have added a touch screen.
I have also added 4x 1.5tb drives so that brings me up to 12tb advertised.

I started making the rack and I have it pretty much done, but I havent put my stuff on it because I am moving in 1 month, and will be temporarily living my parents(FAIL) until I start my new job in September.

So im kinda at a loss with what to do with all that stuff.

Ill get some pictures up when I get a camera from a friend.

I could sell it, but then I would be kicking myself in 3-4 months when I want it again if I have a place to put it.
I might just have to pony up the cash for a small storage space somewhere.

Man, I'm mad I missed this thread! I was just looking at that chassis on Newegg yesterday. Thanks so much for sharing this project with us!! I was very curious to see this setup in a real world scenario.
