Project- First mod (need a window design)

Well it doesn't really cost anything to do the 7v mod, try it and see if it runs, if not, then go ahead and buy the adapter.

you can probably find a 12V to 7.5V adapter at radio shack or something (one of those car kit type things most likely) and wire that up. just make sure your power supply actually keeps 12V stable under load and idle or it may have problems.

well its a fortron blue storm, so it should keep in range, i hope, if what all people say about fortron is true

That just tells you how to wire it into your video card. They even specifically state that they use the adapter for it.

Just wanted to say that you are doing great. I love to see younger people take an interest in things other than just playing games. Very nice work, and you have done some pretty advanced mods for your first time. Its never a good idea to kick dad out though.....just dont let him do it all. :D

ya lmao, when i started using the jig saw, my dad set it all up i was like kk thanx, and he was about to leave, then as soon as i was pluggin the jig saw in my dad grabbed it and started cutting i was like wtf. he did alot too, then he turned it off, and turned it around to go the other way and was about to go then i was like ok i got it and i unplugged the thing lol, then i waited till he left. But im glad he showed me first cuz then i wouldnt know i have to foce it through (push it) but ya he didnt have to do as much as he did

Just wondering, what you use to cut the blowholes up top? I have the same case and I'm going to mount a heatercore up there, and I'm thinking about what to use. I'm thinking of getting a 120mm Diameter drill thing that's kind of like a big can with serated edges that attaaches onto a normal drill.

So what you end up using?

i used a dremel. Hole saws would work best, the hole will be perfect. But ya i dont wanna spend 20+ bucks on a hole saw that id only use like 3 times

but ya hole saw will work best

*UPDATE*

sorry i havent updated for a while, i never got a chance since i kept wakin up late and then started modding but ya here goes

drew out the design for the window
drawup0tp.jpg

cut it out

drilled holes and crap, all mounted
windowdoneandinstalled7ao.jpg

K you see where i put that red dot? should i put a screw there? cuz the thing where the dot is is kinda flimsy (not really, but sorta) would a screw there ruin it? or should i place one there?

anyways, ya on the case
dragwindowoncase6ns.jpg

too bad the acrylic isnt blue, its clear but has the wrapping on it, i could just leave the back side wrapping on it though

thats all for now, o ya i also ordered my leds, swtiches and a whole bunch of other crap. Spent over 100 on all electronics stuff

thats all

if you could find a low-profile screw, you should put that in there. i say low-profile so it isn't too obvious. if you can't find that, you could try glueing the window there, but it would be less removable. it's up to you.

*UPDATE*

K well i painted all the plastic crap (fan holders, case feet, handle)

unpainted1tu.jpg

painted3vx.jpg

i use paint to quickly

and i also started trying to make my own vandal switch

acrylicpieceforvandalswitch2kx.jpg

the metal piece thats going in the middle is a washer, because a dime is too big and its takin forever to get it smaller, so im just gonna fill the hole in the washer with bondo and paint it blue

if it turns out crap ill probly buy one

*UPDATE*

well i got me some leds and wire

ledsandwire3na.jpg

ledsupclose2hx.jpg

thats 36 blue 5 mm leds and then 6 bi color (blue and white) leds

then i got 2 UV and then a flashing led for free :D

*UPDATE*

ok well i got the rest of my electronic stuff, frickin 86 dollars (92 with shipping) worth of stuff

allelectronicscrap5zf.jpg

i dont feel like listing EVERYthing i got

i tested out the 7v/off/12v switch and it works
Off

12v-Blue
12vblue0qb.jpg

dam the leds are bright too, if i look at it for not even a second its like i was flashed by a camera but i can see spots and crap for like 5 minutes before it clears up lol

all for now

also i have room for i think 4 switches, but i only have 3 fans im thinkin of controlling so uhh, what should i do? all i have is the 2 blow holes and then the blow hole on the other side panel.

should i put a 120 in front of the 3 80s for the intake? would a fan infront of a fan mess somethin up?

i will, except not one of those switches im gonna use a switch that can handle 15 amps and its a regular toggle (on-off)

should i make a 92mm hole by the cpu (on my window) and then make a 120mm fan hole on the window by the video card? like this

dragwindowoncasefanlayout5nq.jpg

also small *update*

Modded more of my psu holder thing

redone3en.jpg

redonewithfan6id.jpg

I would say to go for the 120mm on the vid card. It will pull/push more CFM and be a tad quieter than the 92mm I would think. Also, if you ever get a fanless vid card cooler, you need airflow or you vid card would fry.

Try telling Dell that.

Back on topic, still lookin' good. Exactly where'd you jack that mouse from?

my electronics class at school lol

Well i CAN put both the 120 and the 92, the 92 could be nice because i could also duct it to the cpu fan (also a 92) if i ever get some giant ducting tube stuff

but ya i can do both

Nice job man. Definitly the 120 by the vid-card and the idea of the 92 ducted to the cpu is great. Keep up the good work bro.

*UPDATE*

KK well i tried to hOOK the psone lcd up to vGA and it didnt work, i tried like 5 times and it would never detect it, so i gave up and ill just hook it UP to composite. Any idea how i can resize the picture on the screen? in catalyst control CEnter and i could resize the picture but when i press apply it resets it rather tHAN saves it wtf?

so i bondoed my bezel gonna mount (i ll try at least) the lcd tomorow

bondoed7fz.jpg

hooked up leds to my fan (still have like4 more fans to led)

Flash on
fanledflash7kr.jpg

flash off
fanlednoflash5bi.jpg

only 2 leds too

Ok well heres my home made vandal switch lol

offfar9ek.jpg

the bondo i used to fill the washer after sanding is F**ked up and it wasnt smooth (felt smooth atleast but you can see in the pic) i also painted it

offupclose3an.jpg

LET THERE BE LIZZIGHT

onmedium8rs.jpg

upcloseon2ns.jpg

i got 2 leds mounted behind THE Switch

SHould i still use my other power led? I could use the white led for hdd and a blue for power or vice versa, or a different COLor led, or uv lol

woot cut my finger!! also my switches work i just had to use them on my blue storm rather than my crap raidmax

Home made cast

cut18uc.jpg

cutfar1cv.jpg

cutupclose0dy.jpg

the pics suck though

i was running the 120mm deltas and one of them started moving at 12v and it fell off the table i cut it and slice lol

That's quite a beauty you've got their. Nothin' like a few good battle scars to remind you of how much your rig rocks.

Should just link to the pics of the hugely bloodied finger... some people actually get sick looking at that kind of thing.

*UPDATE*

i made my bay cover holes for my switches (the big ones are for my ccfl rockers)

switchescover7mg.jpg

made my lcd mount or well made a starter hole o and i epoxied screws to the inside
lcdmountsmall3ed.jpg

all done, just waiting till tomorow since i had to rebondo some parts, then ill glue it with epoxy!
lcdmoutnclose3gh.jpg

switches up close
switchesupclose0kl.jpg

i gotta fix my leds so there not in the pic

thats what the bezel should look like
bezelwithswitchesandlcdmount7s.jpg

but i think im gonna put the fan controller at the very bottom unless i cant

thats all for now

also pic a a64 system that would be good for ocing thats around <$230

i need one

actually, unless you put the same fan both places, that won't work very well. you'd have the one on the CPU pushing X amount of air, and the one on the window pushing Y amount, and X != Y. the CPU fan would either be starved for air (X > Y) or it'd get in the way (X < Y).

if you do the duct (not a bad idea, just needs to be thought through more imo) then you should put the higher CFM fan on the outside, and put a sealed duct between the fan and the heatsink. that'll remove most of the deadspot, methinks. which would help. you'd have to experiment, though... it might just make it unable to push the air through the heatsink. then you'd want the fan on the heatsink with a duct directly to the outside.
either way it'd help.

nice fan controller, btw.

*UPDATE*

kk i made underglows

lights11wr.jpg

lights21kp.jpg

underglowslightsoff3jg.jpg

wiring sucks but ya ill figure it out later

ive dECided not to take the time right now to put leds in my 120mm fans, i can always do that later so iM just gonna skip it for now

Also i dunno if im gonna make the switch for the psone lcd, since i have no were to mount it, but lucky for me i bought a cord that has a sWITch on it already (the rolly switches like on night lights and stuff you know?)

so ya ill just uSE Thati guess

and i took the tape off the top OF MY case

topwithtapeoff6hn.jpg

i havent seen it without tape since february 12 or so!! lol

and ya i took it off

topoff8lg.jpg

as of now the pieces are all drying because i sprayed it with my hose to get out all the metal dust thats inside the case since i started modding and havent vacuumed out, its gonna be ready to paint in a day or 2 (inside at least)

all for now

i just need to find the right mobo and cpu now

ok acutally i can mount the switch on the bezel, the same side as my usB ports! it should look nICE. I have a few questions, the ROCker switch has 2 prongs, does it matter which wire goes to which? or it dont matter?

and also where should i hide THE ac adapter? at the top of the cae above the 92mm fan or under my ps1 adapter?

with two prongs, i don't think it matters, because it is just completing a circuit. should work either way. unless it is a lighted switch, but that would probably use more than 2 prongs.

ya its not lighted ok so how do i connect it?

ok im soldering/conencting wires to the real adapter since its big and bulky and i dont have room on my outlet for it so im soldering a normal cable to plug into the wall

So do i do it like this

switch17jo.jpg

both leads from the original adapter go to the switch, then leads from the new plug go to the switch or like this

switch23gs.jpg

one prong from the adapter goes to the switch, the other goes to the plug, then the other plugs wire goes to the other lead on the switch?

actually, if that's all you're using it for, you could just get one of those extension cords with a switch in the middle. like those lamp cords or something.

if you wanna use that switch, i *think* you'd do the second one. you'd wanna check with someone who knows what they're doing, though.

ya i bought a cord with the lamp switch thing, but i dont really want that since the rocker would look frickin awsome, but ya people over at bit-tech.net said to use the 2nd

could i use alligator clips to attach them? because i wanna be able to take it apart without de soldering and stuff and i have to fit everything to this tiny hole and i dont wanna make a bigger one so would alligator clips work fine?

How the heck do you stealth your drives with the chieftec cases? they use those stupid tool less things for your 5.25 drives but then how the hell do you stealth them?
