Project: Digg (custom case) Finished

Most of the black GTS's have turned up green lately which is why I'm hesitant to order either. BFG's (while they were black) are green according to newegg.

I had a good deal on a gtx the other day but passed since it would be a tight fit in the case.

Call up BFG and ask, they have nice support from what I've heard!

They might be able to hook you up otherwise.. :)

It's almost impossible to find the black models now unless you find a used.
They are no longer made as of december, 2006. ;)

Thought so. Thanks for the update man. I've been posting all over the place trying to find one. My last resort if I can't find another by wednesday is to rent a geek with a card for a day.

Thanks DB too.

Talked to people at EVGA, BFG, and PNY today. BFG said they never did black which I find odd. PNY took an hour to figure out what a PCB was after I had to do extra searching just to find their phone number. EVGA said they were black originally but switched to green (cheaper) and suggested a local store rather than online. They were helpful.

A couple people have them locally so I'm guessing I'll go at it that way. It's a shame though because I've gotta pay retail for a used card.

So its obvious that EVGA are the smartest, how can you not know what a PCB is they work in the PC part industry do they not lol. BFG are just Big Fumbling Gumps lol

While nitpicking the case tonight, I noticed that out of the 4 fan covers inside the case, 2 of them match fine and the other two are too light and too dark. Go figure, that's what you get for painting stuff at different times throughout the build....and running out of the original paint you used.

Might just repaint that verrrrry early tomorrow for the photoshoot's sake...Then again, I'm still waiting on two parts in the mail before anything can be photographed..

Well, can't wait for the photos then!

Good job, I'm sure you've heard it enough, but this project looks great.

I got a 3rd green pcb 8800 today (XFX). Luckily someone was willing to trade for a black one though. Just had to drive for a few hours to swap it.

I'd make a green joke right now but I'm so tired of this I'm about to move on to another case.

not before a lot of pictures of the finished product :p

Whats happened no updates in ages! Did you give up :( or are you lazy and can't be bothered to update lol.

I think I've used up all of my excuses. I'll have a picture around noon. Was supposed to have the gallery posted but too many things going on :D

I've got a lot of pics to go through and obviously I'm way late on when I said I'd post them originally. I planned for yesterday to have them on the site but things like, you know, work get in the way. This is just a random pic. The case pics are going to be on the site a little later today hopefully (if not tomorrow).

WOW!!!!
Does look great!

Lies. :D

Everyone, I wired up the VFD wrong (like an idiot) possibly damaging the VFD. How cool is that :/ I'm going to pull an all nighter to get this thing working if I have to. That is what I get for messing with one-zero's work...heh. Pics will be posted, just a little delayed, I want just one pic with the VFD working and I can live with the rest. I just don't want to show it off unless it's 100% you know.

VFD works. The program made to show the digg news, however, doesn't. Will get that fixed later this week. I'm not sure how the program rips the news from the site so I'm guessing something changed on digg's site that messed up the program.

I'll have a pic of it working in a few hours. It's like 2am, no sleep today I guess.

Here's another teaser. The entire case wasn't put back together after the VFD mess and sadly I am off to work in an hour. So no VFD pics. I have a bunch of the entire system without the VFD working but I'd rather you see it 100% so......keep waiting.

[H]ot :D

Just sexy, absolutely sexy. Wait, I think Lethal will be here to delete the porn :p

Got this little s*** working finally. What a pain, who made it so you have to take out the mobo tray just to get access to the vfd? ....oh wait.....

I tested the digg newsticker program earlier on my shop comp and it didn't seem to function so that'll be solved later today. Hopefully it was just a glitch and not something that requires re-writing the thing. Will test it in the morning again once I get net access (did I mention the Asus onboard wifi is junk?)

My shop has an upgraded antenna that gets the wifi from the house about 300 feet away. Works fine for my shop comp but not for the asus onboard wifi in the digg case. jEdit: go figure it's a USB2 wifi adapter that is built in. I think this confirms my last time ever using an Asus board in a mod.

Once again the modding bar is raised........Beautiful detail work.
(are you gonna be at ShowdownLan?)

Hook up a better antenna, that will probably solve alot of your wireless problems. The included antenna is pure crap!

I'm using an antenna that's mounted on the roof :p It's plenty good. Those ones they include are always craptastic. I'm typing this from the Digg case though. I just connected through the shop comp.

Now if only I could get this digg newsticker working then you guys would have some pics to look at :D I think Digg may have changed something which caused the prog not to work. Go figure :/ edit: ya Digg did change something. Getting fixed as we speak.

im dying. im lurking constantly, waiting for full shots :D

is the Digg currently your top o the line computer? :p

Ok so I got a nice little update to the original digg newsticker. It has a much better interface that lets me choose the interval refreshing the news from 10 minutes to "Ghah Crazy" 500ms. Still though, it isn't showing on the VFD. It might be due to using a parallel port pci card instead of an onboard one (something that could've been avoided if Asus stepped up and supported on this board :D

See, you like how I turned that around on Asus again? :D Pics today, period.

I'm still sitting here troubleshooting on why the newsticker wont come up. All I get is a windows error. It appears my tech support is asleep :D Where's that pic...

Just one for now. I refuse to give away the final pics till that news ticker program works. :D

Guess what works now... :D

A little adjustment should fix the overlap of the description and digg box. :D Time for more pics to be taken.
