Amazon is celebrating their biggest global shopping event of all time as they sold 100 million products in 36 hours. During Prime Day 2018, Amazon Prime customers had exclusive access to more than 1 million products on the Amazon shopping portal. PCs and computer accessories was a top five category in total sales which harkens back to the news that PC sales are up for the first time in 6 years.

Literally millions of Alexa related products such as the Kindle and Echo series were sold, but small and medium sized businesses benefited as they easily surpassed over $1 billion in sales during the event. Amazon showcased new products from businesses during the event and some exceeded normal sales by 400%.

"Prime Day was the biggest single sales day of the year. We sold 10 times as many items as we sell on a regular day," said Chris Guiher, Vintage Book Art Co.

It's pretty impressive how Amazon has succeeded in inventing a sale holiday.

I didn't have much success though.

My better half saw a great deal on a Vitamix 7500 blender she apparently wanted. (We already have a blender, I don't get it) and I tried to buy it for her, but they sold out before I could get mine. Oh well.

Amazing that in one day Amazon can sell more product than several small countries have produced in GDP for an entire year

Oh ya. My Mrs did her part. I’ll be tripping over boxes getting in the front door for a week.

She is an excellent deal hunter so no complaints here.

Saw this morning if you have an Alexa enabled device they have a vitamix 159 off... though about pulling the trigger but already have a ninja and some fancy ass juicer.

I personally bought more last year but picked up a couple of things I had on my wish list that were on sale.

Thing is, if I were to spend a ridiculous sum on an overpowered luxury blender (rather than a $19.95 modell from Target) I'd probably choose one from Blendtec instead, if for no other reason than their hilarious "Will It Blend" series on Youtube.

Vitamix blends really really good. Much better than any other blenders I've used. I wish I had seen this deal, I would've bought it!

I've been pretty anti-Amazon in the last year, mainly because I've been concerned about the lack of competition. That said, I didn't intend to contribute to Prime day it just happened to fall on the day I was organizing my garage, building furniture and ordering stuff to build a new CNC system. Nothing, I wanted was on special, but my garage is stacked to the ceiling with broken down Amazon boxes (literally)... sort of defeating the point of my initial intention to organize my garage.

The most amazing thing is the sheer amount of junk they sold yesterday.
True.

That's not an Amazon thing though. It's always been a hallmark of american consumerism, buying useless trinkets, and drowning in crap.

Where I grew up in Sweden the philosophy was very different. People tended to make fewer more thought out higher quality purchases, and just accumulate less junk.

I bought nothing, but entered all the giveaways
I saw the giveaways but wasn't willing to watch the video in order to enter :p

The chances of actually winning are so remote anyway, that it wasn't worth the time invested in watching Amazon's video needed to enter.

I also refuse to have any kind of smart speaker or digital assistant which automatically precluded me from any of the Echo based promotions.

I bought a few things that were on my 'need' list, and paired them up with the 3 things I actually wanted that were on sale for free one day shipping:

1: A water retaining cooling neck wrap
2: A car detailing cloth
3: a set of 1/2" drive deep impact sockets.

My Fiance bought some Sony headphones.

the only other deal that was mildly interesting to me was the Switch bundle, but considering my backlog is about 30 games deep at this point, I didn't want to spend the coin on it.

I partook, but probably not to the extent our Prime Overlord Bezos was hoping for. Took advantage of the $5 coupon when I bought a $25 gift card and used it in conjunction with the $5 book discount. The wife has been needing a new phone so I eventually decided on the Moto X4 prime- I guess that's a significant purchase. No spybots for me though.

The one thing I bought that was on PRIME was something I forgot to use my AMEX (20% off up to $100) discount on :D #DumbassAtLarge

Amex + $50 discount on Oculus Rift was $80 dollars, so Rift was $130 bucks off yesterday. And it took all my willpower not to get a spare.

I bought some stuff I needed for the house:

1. Greenies for the Doggos, they were 1/2 off
2. Seinheiser noise cancelling wireless headphones I've had on my list for a year
3. Roomba that does Alexa, sold my other ones and this paid for itself and I can tell the damn roomba to go fucking home or start when I leave. no buttons.
4. Cables: lightning cables, network cables, etc.
5. Electrical Outlet with USB
6. Video Games: Games that will sit on my shelf and I'll play them one day but hey they were 75% off and I wanted them anyway.

All in all a decent day of buying First World items that I really don't need but got anyway.

Tried looking a few hours after it started got nothing but doggies telling me oops whenever I searched for something and from my experience you need to search for specific keywords otherwise you'll be show thousands of items all st 10 items per page, and not allof them are prime day deals. later in the evening it seemed to work though but didnt see anything I wanted or needed

True, but I did it while running the egg beater to make whipped cream so I was already doing nothing. Also though, cant win the lottery if you never play.

I didn't buy anything, but Amazon decided to give me $30 credit for the discounted price of the Fire TV Cube I bought a few weeks ago, so that was nice.

Still don't have prime, because I'm still persona non grata for them. most of prime benefits are not available to me. No 1 day delivery, no free delivery, no amazon music, no this, no that, no thanks.

I got the vizio 3.1 sound bar. Was going to get one of the cheaper vizio 2.0 ones anyways but it seemed like a better upgrade for the price.

I contributed to that number. I got a new FireTV that supports UHD and an ethernet controller to go with it, because wireless sucks. The FireTV was discounted to $35, which is half normal price. Of course, with a deal like that, they're currently sold out, and mine won't arrive for over 2 weeks.

if they could actually deliver ANYTHING to me in the promised time frame i'd be overjoyed. , everything seems to take 2-3 days, regardless of the "guaranteed delivery" i ordered a battery, was guaranteed overnight delivery. got a delivery update at 2am, that it would be delivered the 23rd. same for the last 4-5 orders.... guaranteed delivery, then delayed 2-3 or even 5 days. i'm so done with "prime" and their local delivery.

Bought a few things for my DIY addiction, all of them are being delivered today. This year was quite a bit more successful than last year.

Yet, I bought absolutely nothing. :D I spent plenty of money in the last two years, the only thing I care about right now is getting my new 5 year car loan payed off in 2 years.

Ended up with a $10 Whole Foods discount off Amazon Prime Day, so I just ended up getting some socks. Nothing interested me, but can always use clothing.

I lived in Norway for a time and very much the same(although much of my family would enjoy taking turns b-slapping me for associating the two). It's taken decades but I'm working on doing the same. Plus, all the evil crap in the last year that I've been reading about Bezo's is leading to ordering less. I still order but their no longer my #1 goto(purposely misspelled, eat it autocorrect I still remember Basic/Pascal).

I bought a few things. They had a good sale on MicroSD 128GB cards, got a Ryzen 7 and MB, and a few little odds and ends that I needed.

I bought a ton. The only thing that I got that wasn't on my known-desired list was a biometric pistol safe. All else was planned. Saved some coin - no real regret there.

We buy tons of stuff from Amazon throughout the year, and get value out of prime. Convenience being the largest driver. However, prime day sales always seems to be piles of junk - reminds me of going to a dollar store, except online :)

Wife and I tend to only purchase the things we need, but when it's a "want" - it tends to be something of higher quality. Those things are never on sale during prime day.

Got my $175 GTX 1060 3GB yesterday, "packed" in a bubble mailer. It was crushed and DOA.

I signed up for the Prime month trial to see if Amazon's shitty shipping had improved, as I had cancelled it a few years ago after receiving three DOA electronics orders in a row. Will not be renewing the free trial.

Was that from Amazon or a 3rd party? Maybe the shipping dept. isn't playing with a full deck due to volume of orders.
