Does AMD seriously expect me to pre order a card that they are not giving me one iota of information on regarding the specs? Are they seriously asking for pre orders and not even revealing the price? I mean......seriously?

For what it's worth I am planning on getting a new card to replace my 6970. I was waiting to see what the Black Friday sales were like and I had decided to get either a 7970 GE or a GTX 770, depending on what went on sale and for how much. I figured these cards pretty much trade blows with each other and either one will blow my 6970 away. Now I have to see what this new series from AMD brings to the table. Sure wish for some real reviews. Sigh.

Yep, that appears to be the case here. Good for you that you aren't pre-ordering sight unseen.

The pre orders have been delayed until after the NDA lifts, some people think it was done for the very reason you stated - letting people read reviews.

Pre-Orders were NOT delayed.

Check for yourself, not one news article pulls up when you do any search for R9 290x

My guess is this guy wants less competition after midnight.

I will admit, it does seem strange pre-ordering a card that has no specs ................

How can you pre-order something without knowing the price?

surprise it's $900!

I've pre-ordered a lot of things without knowing the price.

The price will be reveled when you pre-order. If you don't like it, don't order.

Also, a little bird told me the limited edition BF4 card bundles will be special factory OC'd version of the card. :)

you can always cancel your pre-order and return it, well depends on where you buy it but newegg will accept returns with full refund as long as you don't open the product, if you found out the complete specs and you don't like the reviews just simply don't open the box, even the box that it was shipped with and return it. simple as that. but I don't know about other e-tailers...

Read this buttmunch

http://videocardz.com/46196/amd-postpones-preoders-on-radeon-r9-290x-with-battlefield-4-bundle

According to SweClockers AMD has just informed retailers not to accept the preoders on the R9 290X Battlefield 4 bundle.

I guess we will find out won't we.

And who the hell is swedc? My point exactly.

Doesn't matter if it's tonight or tomorrow or the 15th.

I'll agree that it's pretty damn silly a method to go about pre-orders. Returning is a hassle and if you do it too much you can get blacklisted by vendors like newegg/amazon. The card could turn out to be a ton of cash that sits on your credit card and hits a billing cycle, etc. as well, or a complete dog, and you know absolutely nothing about what you're ordering. I'm sure they'll sell out fast since it's only 8,000 world-wide (another thing that's a joke, such a small quantity), but it's hardly a negligible thing to be returning tons of $600+ parts to vendors and you still have to pay to ship it back & insure it. I couldn't bring myself to order such an unknown that could be any number of prices with any number of specs/perf/drivers/reviews on a gamble it might pay off.

Also, I saw some rumors mention they will require a (presumably non-refundable) $50 deposit, as well, which is just psychotic.

Holy mackerel, rumors are 800 or more for one of these things, overseas shops are converting to 1100usd pricing on their preorderpages ttonight. They'll need obscene performance over a 780, and to have truly improved drivers.

Wrong, they are not converting the price straight across.

The $800 or $1100 is just their insane markup. Those shops over there only get a handful of cards. The markup is because they know the few that get the cards will pay that price.

AMD has never ever sold a card no where near that amount and it won't start now.

You guys obviously do not know what PC hardware sells for in those countries, it's not like the US / UK market. They are in their own little world and hellishly way over-priced

Pre-release prices per conversion aren't accurate - this always happens with every new GPU launch. Someone goes nuts when they see a price from East Cambodia and convert that to USD. :p I'm pretty confident that the 600$ has a basis in reality. AMD isn't stupid enough to price it at 800$.

Exactly,

The 7970 did very well for AMD because if it's price and performance. They are not going to take the same exact product in regards to market expectations and price themselves out of that market with some crazy price. It's simple math. 2 x 7970's in X-Fire are going to out perform the R9 290x and for around $500+ NEW. AMD wants repeat sells / new and established buyers buying new generation hardware, not people scratching their heads and instead buying or keeping their 7970s.

This is HardOCP, I shouldn't have to explain any of this to this thread.

Nah, I know... been through the rodeo plenty of times to know :). Just was surprised even the rumors were murmuring it :p. If I had to bet cash I'd say $549-599 USD for the actual price.

The good thin is, at least here in the us if you want to cancel your pre order it's not a big deal so you really have nothing to loose. Question is where the hell are these cards going to be avail for preorder and when? AMD is smarting up, pulled an apple move with its limited inecial stock, reveal almost nothing and creating hype.

How do you preorder something if it doesnt have a price? When I preordered a PS4 the price was clearly visible... Outside of that, AMD's prices have always been more reasonable then team green. 7970 at launch was undisputed and i got mine for $579. Didnt regret it one bit. Unlike the titan that is $1000 and is barely faster then a $500 card.

I laughed when I saw that ad from where-ever it was.....

You are going to trust that site's listing of the specifications, but then in the same breath condemn the price of 7900 what-not currency they use.

Yeah....I trust them.

I'm still sticking with a price close to or above the release price of the 7970, plus release day greed and insanity, tack on another 50-100 dollars.

Specs, I'll believe when I see them.

I say good luck to those who are wanting this GPU at release. Why not just wait a couple of weeks and there will be plenty to choose from at MSRP.:D

Yeah I was interested in this because of BF4 (which I already have pre ordered). Its starting to think, that for $50 its nothing worth it. I rather wait and see some reviews then I can decide better if I will jump ship to that card or so something NVIDIA.

Quoted for truth. 680 was flying off the shelves back then while 7970 moved at a snails pace, per steam data and vendors through reviewers.

Interesting considering the GTX680 is not even listed in the all video cards section of that post. :D

Both the GTX 680 and the HD 7970 are listed under DX 11 GPUs.

GTX 680 garners a whopping 1.89% and HD 7970 behind at 1.06% neither are popular with this crowd.

It's interesting to see the embedded GPUs showing the highest percentages?

729, ok I'll discount 60 bucks for the game and fancy box......670 for a GPU with no known specs or performance......yikes.

$729 seems high over the mark.
Seeing as the R9-280x was shown at MSRP of $299, that's a huge $400+ jump to the R9-290x, even with this one being a "limited edition"
I do imagine we'll see "lightning" type cards around that price range though. Even at $599 it would still seem pretty pricey to me. Guess we'll have to wait to see what AMD does later this month.

7299 kr is what Kroners? So currently at this posting is roughly $1135? Ouchies!

Overclockers in the UK has been running the pre-orders for a few days now - they reckon they are getting several hundred in from a mix of manufacturers - MSI, ASUS etc - the usual suspects. 100 quid deposit, refundable if you don't like the final price when they know what it is and call us sometime between the 15th and the end of the month to confirm the order and let us choose which manufacturer's card we want. I'm REALLY hoping the price isn't as insane as I've been seeing on the net the past couple days... 730 US would convert to about 600-650 Pounds in the UK (we have a habit of being ripped off over here) and that would HURT...Plus it would be an insane price from AMD being more than double the price for the next most expensive card announced at GPU14... Hoping the 730 is just AMD FUD to keep nVidia guessing until the NDA lifts...
