Post Your Mac Setup!

I'm surprised they still work. I've had them since they came to the market way back when and everyone else I know with them had at least part of the set die. The only thing that kicked the bucket for me was the remote.

I got mine the christmas after they came out. Never had a problem, but ended up selling them last fall because I wanted to go 2.0.

I'd love to go 2.1 but I love surround sound for gaming. My room is terrible for trying to place rear speakers anywhere. Then again I don't game much anymore (ever even) with my wrists and arms so buggered.

although I recently added this keyboard.

^ Very nice. Loving the Filco. Good stuff, how ya liken the G13?

Too be honest I've never used it since I bought it ~ 3 months ago. :D

Damn near the only game I've been playing is Sins of a Solar Empire, and it makes much more sense to use a keyboard. FO3: New Vegas comes out tomorrow so I'll be using it then. I was using a Wolf King before this so it is going to take quite a bit to get use to this layout.

Yeah quite a jump. Lol. Well hey man its a good keyboard and enjoy it.

Do you guys do heavy demanding graphics games on your macs or just photo editing or video editing, or what?

I play Crysis warhead, MW2 and World of warcraft, all on either high or ultra settings on my 13" macbook pro, works just fine, and I get great FPS.

Wow I had no idea. Alot of people on this other off topic forum I go to say that iMacs are not worth it because of the crappy graphics processing and newer games will be worthless to play because you can't upgrade your iMac.

Depends on your expectations. Sure you can run those games on a MBP 13, they also run on my tm2, but as far playing great, no. Not a slam, just when your graphics cards alone cost almost a much as an iMac, great has shall we say a different meaning than most.

Moral of the story: don’t rely on secondhand information.

Yeah it's hard to tell what to trust out there especially since I've never owned a mac before. Just thinkin' it'd be alot easier on me and less frustrating, plus I don't do too much gaming, just the games you mentioned, mostly source games too, some video editing here and there.

Source stuff runs fine on OS X, and improves all the time. 10.6.5 has some graphics updates that should help as well. Best thing to do is to check out an iMac for yourself, look at some benchmarks, and see if it’s for you.

Alright, back on topic. And KaosDG, why isn’t this and the Mac desktop thread stickied?

Well I run most current games (assassins creed 2, mw2, crysis warhead, wow) all on either high or ultra settings on my 13" mbp and they run at rather admirable fps. Especially for a notebook.

My buddy has the alienware m11x with the core i7 and my games like very very close if not identical to his, and run just as smooth. I'm sure some f it has to do with the fact that I dont load my mbp full of crap files and porn, but Id say in my experience the mpb's, especially the core i5's and i7's are very competitive in the market, even for gaming if your dual booting windows 7 like me.

Consider that we are living in an age of powerful consoles, 60" flat panels and 7.1 surround sound and therefore consoles are now a much more viable option for gaming than a desktop/laptop computer. Once upon a time I couldn't imagine life without a gaming PC, these days I can really see the point of having a gaming computer at all.

Yes, I know that some games are really much better on pcs than consoles (some RPGs, RTS games etc) but unless you have a passion for particular PC only games etc a console and the associated flat panels etc are a much better gaming experience.

That leaves the PC assigned to computing duties and after discovering how good he Macs and OSX are after a short period of adjustment I can't see a reason to own a PC.

Yeah had to get that out of my system.

You can hookup PCs to 60" TVs and 7.1 surround sound systems..

Trying to say consoles > PC and Mac > windows in one post.

Why the fuck didn't you just post that ATI > Nvidia and AMD > Intel while you're at it..

OH OH OH OH I KNOW.. post something about the yankees too.

add to that, any shooter i have EVER played that is on either console or PC, i prefer it on PC.....i cant stand a fucking joystick for a shooter

No kidding. There are some games that play better with a controller but most games that require precision aim and FPS games are better on PC.

I can imagine it. But why imagine life without a gaming PC when you could just keep a good gaming PC around? Certainly doesn't stop you from owning and playing consoles. Throw two or three hundred bucks a year on upgrades and you're going to get a really solid gaming experience out of it.

I've said it before: There's no better complement to a Mac than a good gaming PC, and vice versa. With both platforms, I get the best of both worlds (and I can boot Linux on either machine if I feel like it), and nothing stops me from playing games on consoles either. Just a question of how much money I want to spend on hardware.

Yeah, back to that. Pardon the poor quality. Seemingly the iPhone's cam is pretty iffy in low light:

20" Cinema display hooked up to PC; 21.5" iMac (early-2010) on right. Max Payne mouse pad circa 1999.

I've got that same Max Payne mouse pad somewhere, the game came out in July 2001 came with the game, loved game and I liked the Second one too, looking forward Max Payne 3.

It's always on the coffee table in front of my couch in my room, in the back of the first is the TV stand, and in the back of the second is my desktop/desk.
