Why?
My old P4 rig worked well, but I wanted to play newer games and watch blu ray. I was going to get a Core2Quad, but then I heard about the i7 and I figured I would wait for it. When it came out, there was the choice of the 920 or 940... I almost went for the 940, but that was ridiculously expensive when compared with teh 920, so 920 ftw.
 
Took the plunge earlier last week. Most parts are already here. :cool:

HD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB
VC: EVGA 9600GT Overclocked (from old build)

Upgrading from a AMD X2 3800+, 4GB DDR2, DFI Lanparty UT. No matter how much I OCd it, I was already feeling the slowness of it. I don't game much so it will be mostly use to rip, encode, burn DVDs and BRs.

Picked the case because I already have a P180 which I loved. The MB and Heatsink were the hardest decisions. Went with EVGA since I loved their product quality and support. Went with the Megahalems after reading a bunch of reviews that it matched or in some cases surpassed the TRUE's perfomance.

ditto for specs

overclock is a mild 160 x 20 with turbo off,
volts cpu is 1.35, rest are all two steps back from pink, all down to ram, which is @ 1.65 @1600mhz, then auto to the bottom.Other stuff is generic - turned off H/T and other non-essentials. GL!!

Have had good luck with Intel motherboards in the past. Very reliable. Looking forward to Corsair's new case. I think it'll be worth the wait. One item I did pick up that I'd highly recommend someone looking into is Logitech's Illuminated keyboard. Just a great keyboard...

RAM at DDR3-1333 (8x166) 8-8-8-24 @ 1.5 VDIMM
Temps are 35 C at idle, 67 C under load

The chip will do at least 3.8 GHz on stock volts, I dropped it down to 3.486 in order to hit 1333 on the RAM with 1.5 V (the memory is validated for 1600 only at 1.65 V) -- I overclock for value, not for epeen ;)

1.48v ??? Seriously?

Do you have a C0 i7? My D0 only needs 1.318v for 4GHz. I think your temps are super high because of the high volts.
