Needed some spare headphones for when my CX300 die and I'm waiting for a new set, got these for £2.70 ($5.50) delivered. They're actually not bad, bass is a bit weak and the overall sound isn't great but for the price I can't complain. Comfortable too.

I use HD555 indoors btw and I'm looking to get a decent pair of in ear headphones, any recommendations at about £25-35?

Damnit...now you put that doubt in my mind...

and isnt the HF-1 way out of my ballpark? lol...and arent they super rare?

The 325s imo sound terrible. Shrill, dry, and piercing would be how I would best describe them. The 325is improved on this slightly but it's more or less a very similar headphone. The 225s sound a little like the HF-1s but not as much as most people usually let on about. To me, the SR225s were also too dry and sterile for my tastes. This is just my opinion of course but the cheapest Grado I would buy, would be either the RS2 or the HF-1. Prices have come down a bit on the HF-1s (I recently sold mine for around $350) and RS2s run about the same used so they're not really that expensive and imo, along with the RS1s, they're in a completely different league compared to the rest of the Grado line.

Alright....all the opinions ive been getting now made me waver away from the 325i's and go for my other two options....Kramer @ head-fi, who's opinion i regard highly, reassured me that the modded ones should be fine and should be an awesome grado

just a pic of whats to come...ill post pics with my camera when they arrive

^^ Are those modded 325s w/ the 'gold' plating removed, or from the HP series?

I have Plantronics Audio 350's. No pic, but they serve their purpose fine... I just use them for gaming.

I took delivery of a pair of Sennheiser PX100 a couple of days ago. Of course I wanted black, but I got a deal on 2x pairs of white for £17 & sent one to my sister (after some burn-in in my sock draw). However I was always under the impression that the PX100 was comparable to the PortaPro in terms of sound quality? Even after 20 hours of burn in, they sound dreadful compared to my PortaPro! I was/still am extremely disappointed! The folding design is quite good, & they are certainly fairly comfortable, but the quality is just nothing on my PortaPro. Maybe I'm just so used to the PortaPro that I'm identifying a different sound as a bad sound? I don't know.

Bass seems exaggerated, voices seem to have no 'projection' whatsoever (it sounds like I'm listening from behind a locked door) but what I really don't like is the harsh midrange. I've also noticed that when things get really busy (the climax of Sæglópur by Sigur Rós being a prime example), they lose so much definition & it all becomes just one chunk of noise, whilst the PortaPros produce every different instrument/voice wonderfully independently. In particular I'm shocked at how distorted the bass becomes in this track, even at incredibly low volumes. If I had bought these from a shop (as opposed to Amazon) I would take them back for a refund.

Not that I'm aware of.

I believe the original 325s had black plastic cups, those were eventually replaced with the silver aluminum cups, and those were eventually replaced with gold cups with the anniversary edition 325i.

Wow most people prefer the PX100 to the Portapros. I never heard the Koss personally. Interesting...

Koss' have been modded to hell and back...ive seen so many mods that it gives the "mod your grado" thread some competition...I actually have their pro 4/AA headphones from the 70's, when sennie's were first emerging and Koss was at their peak

I don't think the 325's were ever plastic, those black cup ones you've seen are metal... though they don't really look it in pictures.

Correct. The original 325 has the flat, silver cups. The 325i had the gold, mushroom cups. There was never a plastic 325 that I have ever seen.

LOL what did u expect from 30$? These phones completely demolish anything in that pricerange, and even further up in the 100-120$ range.

That's the thing. The PX100 sounds worse than my Sony MDR-V300 which cost half the price & sounds like garbage compared to my Koss PortaPro which cost the same. It's not just that they don't sound good, they actively sound bad. I don't understand how anybody can use these cans for anything but classical - the bass is disgistingly distorted even at normal listening volumes, midranges are harsh approaching uncomftable & fatiguing & treble is completely uncontrolled. Simply put, they sound like what I expect from a pair of $5 cans.

No, what I am saying is that the first 325's were black metal. Followed shortly by the silver metal cups and then the 325i. I'm not 100% sure that the black metal ones came first, but would imagine this is the case as they were all silver before the 325i was released. I'll try and find a picture of the black metal ones to show you.

I recommended these (px 100) to my dad for travel, and headroom seems to think they're great... but maybe they're not?

PX 100 review on Headroom
Now that I am an owner of both the PX100 & the PortaPro, I would STRONGLY recommend the PortaPro. Of course even better is if you can find a shop that has both on display for you/your father to try out before you buy.

There is currently NO place that i have found that will let you demo IEM's (except for head-fi meets) due to health reasons...imagine how many ears would have had demo'd them...kinda disgusting

the housing on those 325's looks plastic. Thanks for digging up those pics Jay! I was sure I'd seen black 325's before

Who ever said anything about demoing IEMs? I mentioned PX100 & PortaPro, neither of which are IEMs. Or was your post just a random observation!

Thanks to gaming in the same room as my fiance while she watches TV I decided I needed a closed set of headphones again.

ATH-A500s on their way (i've owned these and the a900s before and in this "not spending money" phase I couldn't justify the cost to go higher up the line)

My apologies ...i for some reason keep thinking the PX100 is Sennies IEM's :(

eDimensional Audio FX
Certainly not the best headphones in the world, but they get the job done and have very strong bass (the force feedback features helps a lot). They are a little rough in the high range but for the most part I have no complaints about them. They are very comfortable and my only real gripe is that you get a good amount of noise coming from the USB cable that runs along side of the audio line when the volume is turned up. If you balance the volume on your computer side with the in-line controller right though, it can be minimized so you almost can't hear it.

duals: nice collection! which portable is your fav since you have all of em?

Holy Ampage Batman  !
looks like you got a portable amp for every day of the week :D

Couple questions...what do you like better the M^3 or your Ibasso?
How does the Ibasso's DAC compare to your discreet (im guessing night and day differences)
and is the MK v a SS amp? i didnt see any tubes...

Are you asking about the Mini^3 or the M^3? Different amps, and only the mini was in the pictures.

I love how so many people use the Bed Bath Beyond banana hanger that I started using and popularized 2 years ago. Them are good looking headphone hangers for sure!

Puts a smile on my face everytime I see 'em. Cheap too.

:)
