Awesome heatlesssun... I actually cancelled all my orders today because of the 35% off Microsoft Live deal... in the end I paid $485ish shipped 2-day for my GTX 280, but I won't have it for a few days yet. I was tempted to go for a second one for around $450 shipped on a later-offered card, but I'd need a new PSU too for that and also didn't think it through enough (given the chance now I'd probably do it).

LET US KNOW HOW IT OVERCLOCKS :D :D :D!

Thanks and great deal! Where did you hook up with that? Overclocking isn't look all that great. I cranked up them up 650/1399 and started to get artifacting. Everything is looking good except Crysis in SLI right now. I'm running at 1920x1200 very high and it runs great but them I loose sound and then the game starts to stutter.

- e2200 (nehalem in 6 mo?)
- 680i
- corsair dominator 2 gbs
- gtx 280
- 650 psu
- random crap crap crap

Just want to have the best gpu to make sure my fps never dips below a 100 in cs source, especially in scrims where its important. cl_cmdrate 100 only really works if u get 100 fps + all the time. Also play through crysis and other fps just for fun.

i havent seen my FPS go below 100 in cs:s with one 8800GTS 320 at 1440x900...with everything cranked

Wow heatlesssun, now i'm excited to get 2 of those. You also have the same PSU that I have. But for now I'm getting 1 280 due to the high price and all the issues with SLI in vista 64. Congrats! What is even better is that I know for sure that my psu can handle two cards.

went to frys tonight and got the last one on the shelf. it was the PNY XLR8 GTX 280. Got it in the system tonight and just played some TF2. specs are in my sig. Gonna play some COD 4 later on....

using 177.35 my initial impression is fantastic. coming from the 9800gx2 I can say I think this card is better. yes, i've only tested it on TF2 so far, but the GX2 was giving me choking and stuttering in TF2, probably because I have a 30'' that I'm running at 2560x1600. the GTX280 showed no choking or stuttering at all, everything was smooth. Now the GX2 was perfectly smooth too, except for the severe dips and choking which I can only assume is caused by the 256bit bus...it just can't keep up with AA at 2560x1600. i'll write back in later with some impressions of COD 4 and I'll have to get crysis installed again to test this card with it..

Yes, using the 177.35's and so far so good except Crysis in SLI. However, using a custom config file for Crysis that's a mix of high and very high settings, I can actually play Crysis on a single card getting about 34 FPS average. It's smooth and the game is just beautiful at 1920x1200. Everything very high on a single card is just a little too slow. SLI has enough speed but I am getting stuttering. Actually got the same with my 9800 GX2, Crysis is just not an SLI friendly game.

CoD4 in SLI is amazing. Even one GTX 280 feels smoother than my 9800 GX2 though the GX2 is faster.

Shame about Crysis. I'll fire it up when I get mine installed.
ChrisRay who has nVidia driver team contacts says he'll be glad when another title displaces Crysis as a benchmark. To paraphrase him, Crytek's code makes it difficult to AFR for expected scaling.

Interesting. Unfortunately for them, (a) I don't see Crysis (or at least another game based on CryEngine 2) losing relevancy as a benchmark for a while; (b) I wonder to what extent the dynamic effects provided by the engine (or combinations thereof) endemically, by their dynamic nature, make AFR scheduling difficult (and what extent is actually optimizable on Crytek's end without sacrificing IQ).

Even if I weren't averse to SLI for reasons that I've mentioned too many times over the last couple days, and even if I weren't averse to dropping $1300 on GPUs at this time, two GTX 280s would pwn my poor 750W PSU.

Glad you're liking the setup overall though.

Snagged it with this deal: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1316363

I think you're trying to crank the RAM too high, might have better luck with 1300ish RAM and a higher core clock :). Hopefully drivers will fix Crysis up... glad to hear you're liking the cards!

Getting a single GTX 280 to replace my two 9800 GTX's :D
Will buy a second GTX 280 when I'm next in the US or when the prices come down in the UK.
Also, just bought a watercooling kit (Swiftech H2o compact 220) so I'm hoping to take my q6600 up an extra few hundred MHz too.

Happy times for the computer enthusiast :)
