Native res is 1280x1024, resized to 1024x768. I run two monitors, both have the same back ground so I cut it to show only one.

because they are. some people find lean sexier than highly modded. its HARD for the novice at desktop modding to get these things to work and not take up a friggin ton of resources. my mac conversion i did for example, that was a combination of 8 different system file mods, 8 applications, and a LOT of reconfiguration of half the config files for said applications. it takes a buttload of research and a buttload of time to get it right w/o frying windows beyond recognition let alone make it something that is intuitive, fast, and less of a resource hog than explorer (well in the case of shell replacements, thats the goal anyway).

sexiest desktop ive EVER seen in my life, for the record, was a windows95 box back in the day that booted up notepad instead of explorer to keep things as lean as possible for games. that single mod, got me into desktop modding forever.

Thank you! That was exactly the point of my post.. I loath the bloat of theme apps. nor do I have any desire to sit for hours poking through config files just to display a mass of data on my desktop that I have no use for.

Mainly I wanted to share an idea that I got recently from a walk-in to create a separate user account with all visual effects, background, screensaver, sounds, and tray apps. disabled to speed up gaming. It also allows me to clear out all the game shortcuts from my browsing account as well as create MagicTune and RivaTuner profiles just for gaming.

Thanks for the quick response....I've used litestep and darkstep and a couple other shells in the past but never aston...looks like it's time for a new shell.

Thanks again.

Jeez, sorry to resurrect a dead thread, but I've been keeping up with it, and it's given me a bunch of ideas! So here's my (late) one, and let's see some more! It's never too late...or is it?

Desktop2.jpg

Dual 19" monitors running at 2560 X 960. I actually cheated...the shot is a chop of two different screenshots. I started a transfer from my Y drive to my Z drive to show the speed indicators (the green bar over the Y drive "size remaining" readout is the read speed, on a scale of 0 to 50 MB/sec, and the red bar over the Z drive is write speed on the same scale), but I didn't want to block the left half of the screen with the windows, so I chopped it. There's a bigger image here.
Two instances of Samurize...the "bar" on the right, which gets updated every second, and the moon/weather stuff, that gets updated every 10 minutes. Also Rainlander, for the calendar.
Just wanted to thank you guys for turning me on to Rainlander and Samurize...awesome stuff. And trying to keep this thread alive; it's the best in a while!

I'm assuming you meant me...heh. Yeah, I wanted one to be nice and mild, but I use this one sometimes too!

Also a larger version here.
Wow; I think I started something here!

aston shell, wblinds 4.4, rainlandar, rainmeter

i started running aston this week, and i like it in general, but find a lot of bugs and functionality missing with relation to explorer windows:shortcuts to mycomputer, my docs, my desktop etc, as well as opening any folders on the desktop, but the idea i like.

you have to tweak it a bit to get it all set up right and working 100%. less work with this than blackbox imho.

this is my desktop, nothing special here. i lean towards simplicity and performance.

if you're looking for "simplicity and performance" you should think about taking out most of those icons in your Quick Launch bar and system tray  :)

haha i should. but i tend to access my stuff through the quick launch bar more than anything. but my system tray could have less stuff. i tend to avoid using other programs or resource hogging themes to customize my desktop and tend to stick with the good ol windows look which i altered to my preference. :D

that wallpaper is something like old man out to sea or something but i could never find it when someone else said where to get it ...

so can u host it or tell me where to dl it?? and what theme is that, im guessin nonstep... ( window blinds or what?)
