Popular ad blocker uBlock Origin Lite pulled from Firefox store

Why would we need the Lite version on Firefox anyway? The normal Ublock Origin works as is and Firefox do not have the same issues with the Manifest V3 insanity like Chromium does. 🤔

This is a GOOD thing.
Ublock lite... is for chrome and its offshoots as it conforms to their V3 BS.

The real Ublock is still in the firefox extension store... with a recommended by Mozilla tag, and 8m+ downloads.

As others have said, the full version is available without issue but this is not a Firefox issue or even a Mozilla issue necessarily, this is more of the developer refusing (apparently) to update it because he's annoyed with Mozilla making a mistake (that they admitted)? That I am not sure if it can be a good thing. If he's not thrilled about getting the Lite version on the official Firefox Addons then okay - if nothing else why not just develop it and for the moment release it direct from the github for those interested? Instead it seems to claim he's done maintaining and updating the Lite version for Firefox entirely. I'm also a bit concerned that if he's just tired of Mozilla's review process, what's to stop him from deciding he doesn't feel like going through it for the full version of Ublock Origin either?

He won't continue maintaining it because of what a PITA it is to install and run unsigned addons. You have to enable the running of unsigned addons every time you start up Firefox.

I read somewhere that Mozilla upon appeal realized they screwed up, and restored it.

Isn't that only for certain defaults? I thought that the developer editions , alphas, nightlies, not to mention forks that can be easily overridden so it not like it would get in the way of his development. However, it doesn't seem that the reasons quoted in the article had anything to do with that issue, but rather that he was fed up with the signing process itself given the mistakes made with regard to Lite. He goes into more detail here - https://github.com/uBlockOrigin/uBOL-home/issues/197 .

That seem exactly linked, if signing is not a big deal, issue with the signing process is not a big deal and vice-versa.

Well, that's sort of two different things as I understand. The way that (default) Firefox handles unsigned addons doesn't seem to be the primary burden here - there are developer versions, forks, and others made that allow a universal override so I can't imagine his frustration is because of client-side temporary (if standard Firefox) or permanent (if others) signing overrides being annoying enough to keep him from wanting to develop it. His frustration seems to be focused specifically at the fact that Mozilla originally denied the Lite version with what he felt with specious and technically invalid reasoning, which has put him off the process of getting it approved/signed at all as "hostile and nonsensical". Even a rep from Mozilla admitting it to be a mistake doesn't seem to dissuade him as he feels that allowing it to get to that point in the first place is incompetent, and has made up his mind.

Then again the latest update was literally minutes from the last posting so its something of an ongoing or at least very recent issue.

I was wondering that myself. I was just setting up a new mini PC today and installed full uBlock Origin with no problems.

Hope uBlock doesnt go away, I rather like watching YouTube videos without ads
I think those days are numbered. Live streams seem to be impacted now. It's only a matter of time.
Good news may be coming from EU however. All of the sites (particularly news sites) that stop page loads because they can tell you're blocking ads may be in trouble because they're running code (without your permission) that can tell you are blocking ads. And this is where the problem lies and legal action may make them change this behavior. Louis Rossman did a video about this a while back.

I use Palemoon, but haven't used it for a while and I forgot what Exts I use besides DownThemAll, or it's folks.
CCleaner Browser is my main and UB is still working great keeping the YT ads off.
